Old Lunchbox keeps glitching?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I’ve just joined as like others (I expect), the lock down has caused me to go down memory lane and get back into RC cars. My first was a Falcon back in the early 90’s.

I am hoping someone could provide me with some much needed advice, please.

Im currently trying to get my mates Lunchbox to run. He bought it off eBay, it had an old MSC (now replaced with an official Tamiya ESC), but every time I turn it on, it keeps flinching/glitching, with some of my commands being met, then it gets erratic, and can zoom off by itself.

Please, does anyone know what a solution could be?

Servos are still the originals from when it was first assembled, and the transmitter is an old Acoms 27MHz with matching crystals (No. 6, Blue), stick type. Reciever is the old one, maker is ‘Beat2’.

Should I replace the steering servo and also transmitter/receiver.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure, thanks I’ll check.

Also, with the old MSC in, the vehicle did the same thing. Ie was erratic and zoomed off, steering glitching etc.

I'm old enough to remember non-2.4 radios....

Some general rules old TX/RX gear:

  • never alter the antennas on the TX or RX
  • use the long antenna tube
  • don't bunch up the RX antenna
  • mount the RX away from batteries, speed controls and wiring
  • tighten any metal parts on the car that may rattle or vibrate
  • use fresh batteries
  • don't drive under or above power lines
  • keep 2-way radios and cell phones away from the RX

These are all easy and inexpensive.  Try these first, then look into new equipment.

The transmitter is an Acoms, the beat2 is made by JR propo, even if you have the same crystals, I think that is your problem. Acoms doesn't like to work with other manufacturers Transmitters or receivers.

Buy a cheap 2.4ghz set and set up the esc again with it. If you are in the UK I believe these guys say the Absima are cheap and work well.

I've this up atm, pretty much the same as a basic ,old 27mhz radio, no frills.
