They came out a few years back, but didn't really make much of an impact over here.

Hobby Search (1999.co.jp) restocked 57403 just nine days ago (sold out again now), so Tamiya and/or domestic distributors in Japan obviously still had stock at that time and probably still have as Hobby Search has indicated restocking again.

Never imported outside of Japan as far as I can tell.

I remember recommending one to someone back in 2015 when they were released, but you could never find them anywhere! Not even RCMart or Stellamodels at the time.

They're in stock from Plaza Japan, much more reasonably priced at £87. You'd pay import duty though, making it an expensive entry-level model.

Perhaps that was why they never launched in the UK? 
To the un-trained, it does look rather toy-like and there are cheap RTR RC cars for way less than £100. Even the full-scale XB TT01 series were only £109+ in the UK, they had an upgrade-able chassis and were 'hobby grade' right from the get-go. Sad, but I guess it was uneconomical at that price point, hence there are none on TC

When I saw it, I was thinking it was an upgraded quick drive series, but then noticed it was the "star unit" same as the sw01 chassis.
