Hopefully the #44 Stuck livery....

Or even better with #45 Biela and #46 Röhrl on the decal sheet too!

Nice release. That time of DTM was awesome. A DTM Opel Omega Evo 500 would be cool also.

I'll be honest, this doesn't excite me much! The car (whilst successful) just isn't very inspiring IMO. Saw it at Goodwood years ago and it was totally eclipsed because there was also an IMSA GTO Audi there too

But historic cars are a good thing, perhaps it will encourage something mad like an RS500, which would be incredibly popular with the blue oval crew (especially given how mad people go over the Escort Cosworth!)

Or perhaps they'll re-release the e30 DTM? Which would have that chap who recently bought a TT01 version on FaceBook for £230 absolutely livid!

Is this bodyshell a release of an earlier kit like the quattro rally car was or a brand new mould? I have had a quick google but cant find one apart from a 1/8 kyosho. Seems a bit of a niche choice for a completely new mould to be made.

Saying that I do like it though. I love a big boxxy 90s saloon or estate

It's brand new. TC size Audi V8 bodies have existed, but all were pretty crude. Prafa and Deltaplastik made the V8 and if I remember correctly, Carson also made it.

Actually like this A8, and might even buy my first tt02, but you are spot on, the RS500 would sell like crazy.

Anything ford seems to sell well, there is a chap on UK ebay selling bog stock TT02 kits built up with a mk2 escort body (that wears RS2000 stickers), no radio gear or ESC, the last one sold for nearly £300.. Another seller was selling a new body with the same stickers and that went for over £100.

I suppose though the thing is that the perceived worth means for Tamiya the licensing costs would be much higher for something like the RS500.

I think if Tamiya worked out a licensing deal with SRO they could do loads of neat GT3 cars. I would say FIA but that'd likely cost a fortune.

They did Group C cars before didn't they? I suppose those rights stay with the manufacturers/teams of the time. Sauber Mercedes C9, Mazda 787B, Jaguar XJ12 etc.

With sportscar/GT/endurance and retro/vintage/historic racing increasing in popularity recently it could be a good revenue earner. They could do 1:24 kits of cars too. If they can make them appeal to the average punter who buys it as shelf art/to mess with they'll make more money than trying to appeal directly to RC enthusiasts.

I see at least 3 of that kit BNIB on UK ebay currently, there are some of the cliff liveried TA03F too. Not cheap!

It just struck me, that with a little imagination, the V8 body can be turned into an Audi 200 quattro Rally as both were based on the C3 platform and basically had the same bodies. Extra lights would pretty much disguise the incorrect grill and by cutting the front and rear valances a bit higher, I think it wouldn't look too wrong. Audi quattro (Coupe) sticker set from Fine Arts, Rally Legends, Chevron or MCI and voila!

An interesting choice - not a car I feel desperate to add to my fleet, but presumably Tamiya must have done their market research before committing to the mould, so I'm guessing it will appeal to enough people to make it worth their while.

Im excited that Tamiya has released a new body.. yet not excited that it’s my brothers old Audi A8 tank from the 90s lol.

Tamiya seems to be leveraging their licensing with VW/Audi group. I wish they would exercise the licence along lines of refresh for Porsche’s, Lamborghini’s etc.

Are rumours true regarding Ferrari? Tamiya no longer has their licence ?

Probably. There's not a single Ferrari in the Tamiya R/C Line Up catalogs Volume 2 2019 (autumn/winter) or Volume 1 2020 (spring/summer).

Modelsport say that Tamiya are also re-releasing the 04 Subaru Impreza WRC Mexico. This was originally on the TT01E chassis but Modelsport say the re-release is going on the TT02, here's the original kit page, note it says TT01E there..  https://www.modelsport.co.uk/?product_id=427771&fbclid=IwAR28am8zD_buAW7dGMHYA-oeKIv4Nb22ESjtFIzbZlQ-snELLSarP_z9j0g

It could be correct that it comes on the TT-02, but in all humbleness, I doubt it. I posted about this re-release yesterday based on information from three sources I consider to be at least as credible, and they all claim it will still be on the TT-01E. Also, I can't recall that Tamiya ever has used the same item number when (re-)releasing a body on a different chassis. Could be the first time though!  Only information from Tamiya Japan will let us know for sure.

Yeah I thought it was a bit confusing, maybe Modelsport just got mixed up.

Do they re-release using the same number or do they usually give it a new one ?

Could do with the shell for my TA03F (97 WRC) but it seems Tamiya don't release it as a part even when they re-release kits

For reasons I don't know, that differs. Tamiya EP RC kits, not counting those that come built and/or with RC-gear), are mostly in the 58xxx, 49xxx, 84xxx, 473xx-474xx series, 58xxx being the "regular" and mostly unlimited series. You probably know.

Sometimes, 58xxx kits are re-released with their original number, and sometimes they get a number from any of the other series. True unchanged re-releases in the 58xxx series have never got a new 58xxx number, as far as I remember.

Kits released in any of the other number series are sometimes re-released with their original number and sometimes with a new number from one of the other number series (but not 58xxx).

There doesn't seem to be any obvious logic to this, but I reckon they have their reasons at Tamiya.

Body parts sets are often not available for the re-release kits, that's true. However, the loose parts for a complete body are generally available as spare parts.

An exception are often the "special colour" versions, like recently the Blue Brat and Black Monster Beetle. Tamiya explicitly states that spare parts aren't available in the "special" colours.  Sometimes these parts are still available to the customers because sellers split complete kits.

They make it complicated don't they!

@TurnipJF ah yes, I saw Ian's ebay item, when I wrote that I had the '99 Monte Carlo Impreza (58631) in my head:

model_58631_01.jpg

Apparently they never released that as a body set part either

Which (I think) is the same body as the TA03F 58210 kit with different stickers

Just had a thought and checked L&L Models, they do one of these, currently sold out like most of his stuff though.
