Andra 41 Posted June 15, 2020 Hi folks, as in the title I'd like to change the pinion size on my monster beetle to get a bit more speed/acceleration if possible. I just wanted to know what size pinion you would recommend changing to. I have a spare 18t pinion but that seems to lock up the gearbox. TIA 👍🏻
wolfdogstinkus 1876 Posted June 15, 2020 You will need an adjustable motor mount to change the pinion. Best getting a 3s lipo, that will wake it up a bit.
Andra 41 Posted June 15, 2020 Thanks for the reply. It just so happens that I have a couple of 3s lipos here for my vorza. The thought did occur to me but I'm not clued up on all that stuff. So 3s would work straight off the bat without blowing it up? 😂
wolfdogstinkus 1876 Posted June 15, 2020 What esc do you have?
wolfdogstinkus 1876 Posted June 15, 2020 A cheap hobbywing esc will run a 3s lipo. Cheapest bang for buck.
wolfdogstinkus 1876 Posted June 15, 2020 Not sure what the voltage limit is on the tamiya esc. The main problem with the Tamiya esc is that it doesn't have low voltage protection for lipo so you may need a lipo alarm. It will run 2s but not sure about 3s. Problemchild 2149 Posted June 15, 2020 Speed and acceleration don’t come in a single package small pinion = acceleration large pinion = speed lipo and/or brushless is best option with stock pinion JJ
Problemchild 2149 Posted June 15, 2020 This is my beetle running 2200 nimh with speed passion brushless JJ
