TT-02 Bowler build (so far)

Recommended Posts

A few weeks back I bought a TT02 chassis from a tamiya club member and couldn't decide what to do with it. Anyway I built it up and stuck a hot body's Toyota on it. Didn't like that so messed about with the set up and put it into high configuration and thought about a rally car but wasn't happy with clearance. I was messing about with some old CC01 tyres I had and tried them on. It gave me a better clearance and I ended up thinking Bowler!! So sat on my hands for a week or two till Kamtec opened then another week till H****s got their fingers out and delivered then had a fun few hours cutting out,  sanding and masking ready for priming.

A couple of coats of primer. I went for the hard body so it's Hycote auto paint I've used

After a rub down and a wash time for masking off the arches and other colours

Next step was to paint it. Had a can of Ford Adriatic blue or some such that I was going to use on my Lunchbox but didn't so used that as a sort of base coat with a rub down then the Azure blue as top coats

Blue done, left to set for a bit then a few hours masking up to put the wheel arch and grill black on and a bit on the inside

Black done and lights made. Lights were just a few of these keyring torches from the pound shop stripped down and the outer black ring painted silver and the thin lens and reflector glued back together.

Step 2 you've already seen, it was to spray the outer silver

Step 3 reassemble the outer, thin lens, and reflector with a bit of hot glue at the back to hold in place. Holes in the body to accommodate was easy enough with a 19mm speedybit and a slight file round the edges

Sorry this isn`t meant to be a teaser thread, it`s what happens when a luddite with a camera meets an upload limit:D

I'm teased.... but in a good way!! 👍👍

I've had a TT02 Chassis that I built as a Rally, about 5 years ago, and never had a Body for it. 😞 I wanted the 240Z Body for it, but when available, I didn't have the Money, and vice versa. 😢

So the Chassis, with a bunch of upgrades, has just collected dust....

I've looked into Kamtec. They have several options, including that Bowler - which has intrigued me since I saw Richard Hammond beat one up on Top Gear!! 😁

I just hope they don't come pre drilled, like Tamiya Bodies. I just don't like Body Posts sticking out.

They're prices are great, and they ship to the Colonies!! 😜😁

I'm excited to see how yours turns out.

No they don`t. Its a mark and drill your own job if you want them or no holes if you prefer magnet fixings. Windows are solid as well so they are to cut out, or not if you prefer the lexan version. I know I`ve said on other threads Keiths arent good quality, which is completely unfair as they are very good. Nice solid lines and markings, no flash and very very little in the way of surface blemishes. Decals are good quality and easy to apply as well. What I actually meant was they don`t come with the sort of body adornments tamiya  or hot bodies do. Wing mirrors, wipers and the like and they have to be sourced seperately. And he does all the old English stuff as well, Granada`s Mk1 and 2 Escorts etc although if he reads this a Mk2 Fiesta Xr2 would be nice or a Mark 1 Freelander

Cheers and thank you! I'd likely opt for Lexan... I don't mind cutting out Windows. I'd fit Lexan "Glass" inside the Body.

But I live in a Desert, and expect to slide on my roof more than once!! So a Lexan Body would be more prudent. There's not a significant difference in price between the two.

UNLIKE here in the States, where a "cheap" Body is around $50 (£33)!! 😖😡  So for me, Kamtec is cheap as chips!!

I've got no worries about adding details, and love Painting. This is a good fit!

I see you've cut out your Windows... I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out. 😁

My first Tamiya was a lexan Kamtec Bowler @Carmine A!

I did make a mess of the body post holes on the bonnet but I should have expected it as it was my first ever go. My underpinnings were a TL01, however, so looking forward to seeing one on a more modern platform.

I agree with you @Wetman regarding Kamtec, though some bodies have a lot more detail and better proportions than others. I have an ABS Minor van which I feel is well moulded. I have seen some great ABS Bowlers too, which inspired me to get mine.

Looking forward to seeing yours all lit up!

Windows mk 2. 2 pieces of 1mm overlapped by about 5mm to give a better look of sliding windows. Also Hpi 6mm offset 6 spokes and cc_01tyres with the decals

Looking good. Do you have graphics in mind or will it stay almost civilised looking?!

You've gone down a rabbit-hole now, you'll need to make a cockpit!

Patience dear boy, it's done just trying to do the thread in sequence. 😂

I'm undecided as to graphics, I quite like the look of the "top gear" ones on Kamtec site but I like the clean look as well

Right an update. Finally got the silver bumpers sprayed, headlight backers put on and side lights made.

Side lights were easy enough, the LEDs from the torches that I used for the headlights simply coloured with sharpies and fitted through 5mm holes carefully made in the body.

Next up will be the interior if it ever gets finished.

Cheers. Been having a play with another interior the last couple of days. The lighter is just to gauge red for the seats against the blue bulkhead

Following with interest. How are you going to fix the body. I have a half finished Bowler /TT02 project and body posts are the issue. Where the front ones should be the body is very uneven. Almost impossible to fix magnets and the rear is so high even though you can fix the magnets you get horrible body wobble
