Now this sounds like a good idea (given the tranny holds up)

Has it been done before? Dont know what ratios you can get from the frog gears, but i guess one of them should be speed-ish.

In light of the Frog rerelease they should be alot easier to score.

The idea just popped up, and wanted to share it and hear if it has been tried.

Imho the MB isnt really geared slow and with the Frog ratios it would be massively overgeared with those huge tires. Today its much easier to get a high rpm motor instead, if you want mad speed.

Ok, i was thinking that hi torque motor like a SuperStock RZ could do it. But maybee higher RPM is a better way to go as you say.

what's the difference in gear ratio's anyways? I always thought that the internal gears for those trannies were the same and that just the motor pinion was different?

i know monster beetle gears have "blackfoot" on them, not frog, so they could be different but i'm not 100% sure on that.

what i am sure of is that the "overall" ratio of the drive is different, due to the monster beetles wheels, which have a much larger diameter than the frogs rear wheels. thats why the MB has a 10 tooth pinion, to compensate for the larger wheels without loosing out on acelleration.

Yup, they are different gears to the Frog, I could count the teeth if anybody's interested.

And... If anybody wants a new Monster Beetle gear set, I've got one for sale.

Also Frog had 3 different spur gears for 3 different pinions, while only one existed for the MB.

Better stay with the stock MB gearing, should be as fast as it makes sense on such a car with a RZ.

Thanks for the tip europro975, but im strapped for cash right now. I´ll be doing a resto of the tranny later this year, i´ll take a look if you still got it then.

Kingeddie, think it´s a Subaru Brat gearbox you got. I had one when they came out, and it didnt have a diff.
