The Blitzer is my first proper RC kit, when it turned up the original body was completely damaged during shipping, so I just fixed it up gave it a flat gray spray finish to use as my basher shell ( My rat rod Blitzer ) I picked up a new shell online and decided to try my hand at producing a "decent" paint finish so I had one to dress up the Blitzer when it is on the shelf :D

This is my first attempt at anything like this, so I am happy to take any comments along the way.

First thing to do was glue the nose on, glue the sun roof in and as I wanted to fill the extra body holes I also glued some spare sprue parts over the holes in the roof and bonnet. I have also decided to close up the wing mirror holes to look more like the original. I may even try to find an original windscreen set so that there is a rear glass.

Next step was filler, I went with the Tamiya Basic Type Putty. This stuff is pretty runny, and it shrinks back a lot. It has definitely been a trial and error few days, I have filled and sanded several times. I stopped counting how rounds of filler/sanding to get a result I am happy with, I know it was way more than should be spent on a 35cm car body

For sanding I used 400, 600, 1000 grit wet & dry. I also picked up a 600 tamiya sanding sponge which has been good to use as a backing for the different grits.

Anyway this is where I am at so far .... next step is the primer, which may be my first attempt with an airbrush...

Just got a Blitzer myself and was thinking about how far to go with the body.

I want to recreate a patina type look so I've got some red/brown, then white primer and a light blue top coat. Idea being that I can sand the top coat back and get some of the primer and rusty brown to show through. Need to decide whether it's worth filling some of the gaps on this body or not as it will be used regardless. Wonder if there's a better automotive filler to use instead rather than the Tamiya stuff as that sounds a bit of a pain!

What glue did you use to glue the body parts just out of interest?

I like the sound of your plan :)

I used Ammo Mig slow dry cement for most of it, then added a bead of superglue to the underside of the sunroof once it had dried.

Hopefully it works and doesn't look rubbish!

Thanks for the glue tip :)
