So, are the re-release, like the thundershot, and top force, and the soon to be fox. Are they meant to be a shelf queen, or meant to be raced??? Is the Top Force, meant to be a meager way back into offroad 4x4 buggy racing for tamiya? What are your thoughts?

Its your kit, do as you will with it.

Wouldn't really be buying them as "investments" though. [:)]

If you're building and actively running it... don't be

expecting your LHS to stock spareparts too soon.

Would be "nostalgic" to round up enough Frogs for a buggy race though.

Don't think the TF is a offroad racing comeback for Tamiya, also the Dyna Storm wasnt, despite it being a more high end kit then a stock TF. In the end as Willy said you are supposed to do what you like with them, personally I use them as runners and for alternative paint shemes as I don't think they will be ever so valuable as originals to preserve NIB.

For me personally - they will only hit the shelf and look pretty. I still don't understand why anyone see's RC cars as investments - you could do much better in stocks, funds etc.. For example a NEW Bruiser costs like $300-$400 uS 23 years ago - Now you can get $1700 - so that's $1300 in 23 years - that's approx $60 per year. And this is the bruiser we are talking about!! I'd say the average kit from the 80's in mint condition makes you $25 bucks a year.

Anywhoo.. back on track [8)] Tamiya has never been a "real" RC racing company anyways so I'd say they are meant to be unwrapped by 10-15 year old kids at christmas or us old timers trying to re-live our own childhood memories. Anyway you look at it - it's great news [8D]

Also agree they are bad monetairy investments, with money devaluation and normal interest rates you can make everywhere else better profit and without the risk of a devaluation due to a re-release.

Disagree though about Tamiya not being a "real" race company, things have changed alot, maybe you missed the last 2 touring world championships?

Yep Tamiya certainly has turned a corner on the Touring car market.

Many people do not know that the original 415 was actually made by tech racing...Tamiya negotiated the release of the design and manufacturer to them and called it the 415..........that being said - their development program and testing are second to none.

If Tamiya decide to do off road properly again - I reckon things are going to get really interesting as the new kyosho is certainly starting to make waves...........dont forget that Kyosho want the 1/10th touring car title as well in electric - that assult will start soon too......nice to see the two Japanese giants head to head yet again!

Wooooops - a bit off topic - sorry!! [:D]

4MCRUE, it's all what you enjoy. If you enjoy collecting NIB and having runners, and have the extra $$$ buy a few of each kit. Keep one NIB, one for running and one for parts. The Top-Force and Frog happen to be two of my favs, so I plan to buy atleast 5 of each. I love running them and collecting NIB.

Regarding investments, I'd say that it is a particular meaning of the word investment. I certainly look at it as "have I blown a load of money on something that will be worthless in a years time?" (like a PC, for example). I wouldn't ever really expect to 'make' money on a kit, just feel better (and probably justify it in those terms to the missus) about spending money on toys that I don't really get a chance to play with.

I've convinced myself that they are an investment because I could sell them at any time without losing an awful lot of money...

Highly unlikely, it wasn't the most competitive buggy when it was new, it would have no chance these days. Decent club racer, but you need to buy loads of hop ups to make it a serious racer.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about a Fox re-re either. [:(!]

Tamiya isn't re-issuing any of these cars based on physical performance, just performance in sales. With the exception of the XR311,Tamiya has been re-releasing cars that sold very well. The Fox did sell very well back in the day, so a re-re can very well happen.[;)]

Dude; shares dont look good on the shelf, nobody is impressed when you run your shares down the local buggy track, and frankly shares dont take jumps too well. Also, there is no vintage share collectors club site........

Appart from that, you are 100% correct!!!!!!!!!!
