Sandscorcher motor

Hi all, I know I've asked this before,what motor fits into an original sandscorcher,I've tried a sport tuned but it didn't fit very well,I've got a silver can out of my df02 that fits but the plastic cover does not align with the gearbox casing properly, i don't really want to force it to fit at the moment I'm using a silver can that's about 30+ years old never been cleaned and probably got all sorts of crap floating around inside it,I'm sure my buggy should go faster than it does, all I want is to bolt something in everything aligns and fits with no modifications and is a bit quicker than it is now, thanks in advance Jeff 👍

Are you running with a 7.2 Volt battery ? - or the original 6 volt ? . The motor has been a problem for these old boys without some surgery .

I'm running 7.2 nimh and also fully ballraced

I'm running a vintage 540 in my Wild One runner at it isn't slow with NiMh . I did oil the bearings as they were dry and it is pretty good . You could try that . Test the motor outside of the gearbox and listen to the rev tone , dry bearings will be apparent by the squeeling noise

Can they be stripped down and cleaned if so howeasy is it

You can disassemble them, but not really non-destructively.

Have you considered a water dip to clean it up?

Now I've read that I will be giving it a go and see what happens thanks 👍

Use electronics cleaner or motor spray.  Spray it inside the vent holes and into the brush area.  Spray in bursts all around the inside of the motor can until the runoff is mostly clear.  Then re-oil the bushings.

Well I gave the old motor a dip in the water and the water turned black, then sprayed electrical cleaner into it then oiled the bearings it was much quieter but not much quicker, so I've put a newer motor into it now which has also had a water clean and re oiled it's a bit quicker now but the plastic casing is in the wrong position and the rear cage is tight against where the wire comes out but it's on there,I'll just have to live with it like that, thanks for all your advice 👍
