Hmmmm, just like i did with the origionals!

Question is, are the old transmisions up to todays modded motor standards?

I remember my hornet was fast enough, but id live to slot my 13 double and esc into one!!

I run a Dynatech 02h motor in my Grasshopper, gearbox seems to handle it fine, can't say the same for the bodyshell though, if it hits a bump at speed it barrel-rolls through the air and lands on the roof *ouch*

I see nothing wrong with shelf queens. The cars are great pieces of engineering, they're great to look at on the shelf as well as to drive.

Seems a shame to run in anger an out of production car that took months to restore.

Part of the fun of having a shelf queen is knowing that it's brand new, and you could just jam in a set of radio gear and run it if you really wanted to.

If you have the extra dough, buy about 5 of each as I do. I use one for running, one for shelf queen and the rest to leave NIB for parts or future value. With this method you can't go wrong.[;)] See...

Did you want to stick them on the shelf when you were younger? Of course not! Show them no mercy!!!

I also didn't have a problem with blowing up my Star wars vehicles with Fire crackers and melting my storm troopers in a freak gasoline spraying accident.

Ahhh! the good old days of being a pyro maniac and getting away with it. Wasn't it a great feeling to burn/blow up things. When you were a kid you could hack, burn or blow up your action figures/toys and get away with it. Today, you would go to jail or a mental institute. [:P]

OK, i have a confession........

I remember painting a nieghbours gate while he was on hols for him, when he came back he was just giving me me fiver when i noticed a tamiya box in his shed, on closer inspection it was the ford ranger, so instead of giving me the fiver he gave me that.....

After a time i decided to give the body a mkeover, with a lighter!!! i heated the body on the inside in select places then pressed in the plastic giving the apearence of dents, i also painted on the rust in all the usual places!!

i thought it looked great at the time...

I never know what happened to it, its now in the great scrap yard in the sky, along with my hornet, frog, brat and so on....

Well, about driving the re-releases...

Put 'm in your trunk and drive around.

You can even drive around with the NIB originals...

I'd say: DRIVE 'EM ALL!!!id="size5">

The are no rules about use, do what pleases you more with them, for some is making a shelf queen, for some running, for some keeping new in box and for some who can afford it all above! [:D]

Drive them all, gently.

Car has no life if they are not driven but they should be treasured like gold because they have feeling too. Last nite my SRB told me her front wheel was hurting..... Tonite the differential told me it needs somegrease..... :-)

What's the point in having them if you're not going to use them. That is after all what they're made for. If Mr Tamiya didn't make them to use, then he would have released them as static models with no electrical componets or working suspension.

I'm baffled by the amount of SHELF QUEENS that are around. It's okay if you've got plenty of money, but for us lowley paid people if you've got `em use `em. I do agree with some people who may have one spare sitting in a box of bits in their cupboard for the real early stuff, but one runner and one not-going-broken-down-in-parts spares car IMO is all you need. Just don't go jumping over houses or silly things like that, use them for what they were made for, tracks.[:)]

What good are SHELF QUEENS when your six-foot-under. unless you've educated your children they're going to get rid of them at some stage of their lives, probally for durgs and the like.[B)]

Nice point Wild one , but if you have enough money in about 50 years you may be able to live for ever or even be a shelf queen your self .

May be if you ask your kids they will put you in your favourite Tamiya box [:D]

I have restored two WWI's to sit on a shelf. After a couple years of looking at them I had to drive one. I threw in some batterys and took it outside. I had alot of fun but ended up scratching the gear cover becasue the wheelie bars were too short(wore them out in the 80's on pavement). That did not bother me becasue I had so much fun driving it. I say drive them in moderation and enjoy them.

I plan to rebuild my Frog using re-issue parts and then I am going to bring it to my local track and get some laughs.
