How does one get the brat roll bar off the tree and assemble it? Is it supposed to be glued? It comes off the tree flat and needs to pitched up but if you do that then you have to break it.... Am I missing something?

I went through the manual but I still dont get it.

any help is appreciated.

many tamiya rollbars from back in the day were like that

lay it flat and twist/bend it to position

it has a metal rod running inside that should if done easily not allow you to crack it

The blazing blazer, and other 80's 4x4 rollbars are made up very similar.

By the mountaineer 92 they just made it all plastic and no metal rod

Im guessing you have a re release shell...I had the same issue, and broke mine. I ended up buying a non re-release shell rollbar that has the metal insert in it. The re release is plastic and cannot bend enough without breaking.

Yes, mine is a re re shell. Since this is a from scratch rebuild with no original shell I dont have any metal inserts. Any ideas?

I bought a NOS bar from eBay for mine. I tried carefully cutting the re-re bar and then gluing it back together, but it fell apart just trying to install it. Good thing I bought a real one though. I installed radio gear into mine last week and managed to roll it on pavement. Oops! [:I] Oh well, scratches add character.

The one on my restored Brat is the re-issue one. I simply cut it at the weak points, bolted it to the body and glued it back together in place. This works fine for a shelf queen but I would suspect it wouldn't be strong enough for a runner.

What if you heated it before bending?

I didnt try that. I thought at first the plastic was stiff, so gently moved it, *SNAP* . Too late. So the old metal lined one was bought.

Has anyone ever manage to install one of the re-re's without breaking it?

If so, let me know how you did it- I have an all plastic one sitting here

and I'd like to use it somewhere.. (I put the old metal framed job on my

current Brat project)

I ended up cutting the bar at the point where its joined. After that, I sanded it smooth and drilled out a hole in both sides and used a small threaded rod I made from a #8 screw with the head cut off. I just threaded it in and screwed the 2 parts together. Strong now but this fix is all contingent on the holes being drilled into the rollbar straight

Yeah, I was thinking of doing something along those lines- with some threaded rod I have here.

What size drill bit did you use? I think the original rod was maybe 4mm ?

(Very nice Mud 'Bratster' by the way !!)
