BDAD : DN(F)01(Sadly gone) and DT02 shenanigans.

Recommended Posts

You will note a topic/thread title change.

All will become clear, read on for further insight into the world of BDAD.

After seeing a couple of DN01 builds on here I took the plunge, and duly ordered one from RC Jaz. It'll be pretty stock (to start with!).

The build consists of:

DN01 kit

Hobbywing Xerun esc/motor combo, 10.5t

Core blah blah blah metal gear servo (til I get a digital one)

TRF 201 body shell (Zahhak body is not for me)

HPI pinions (ordered 25 and 26t, more to follow as they're not expensive)

Rx out of my DF03, mounted on velcro, so a quick change between buggies.

Tonight's steps completed.

Tyres mounted to wheels (not glued, as black RIT dye will come into play soonish).

Shocks built, 700 oil, 3 hole pistons rear, 2 hole pistons front, buttery smooth.

Hmmmm, just offered the shocks up to the DF03, similar size, budget build my backside, this could (read as will) get expensive.

The DF03 alloy dampers are a good option, will give quite a bit more travel. Also consider the trf aeration damper that comes stock on the trf201. There is also the big bore aeration dampers but they cost as much as a whole DT03 lol, I made a thread that compares all the Tamiya buggy shocks be sure to check it out before making a decision.

I'm still waiting for the aeration trf201 to be delivered on mine so been using the stock cva. The stock cva seem OK with the chassis but even now the rears have already got a bit squeaky after something like 5 runs.

Juls1, I've studied your damper thread, thanks for the work in putting that together. DF03 dampers will be fine, not spending aeration money.

Manix92, yep stock CVAs are ok, but long term, they need replacing, even if it's only for shiny blue reasons.

This evening's task will be ball diff/gear box assembly. Gonna take my time on this build (famous last words).

Parts bag A done. Diff/gearbox built, spur gear and motor plate attached, rear upper and lower decks attached to chassis. A pleasant evening.

Anyone planning to run the Sand Viper or Desert Gator shells? They both fit. Lee Martin used to run the Sand Viper on his TRF201

Gonna run 201 shell on mine. Wanted a DG shell for my DT02, but none exist anymore, shame, as I think it looks better than the SV shell.

Sell me your dn01 body? Or trade me for spare Trf body I have ?

To anybody reading this, I will not be selling the (ugly as) Zahhak body shell, even before the kit had arrived I'd already offered it to someone. Thank you to those who have asked though.

More build pics later this evening.

Back ends together, no dramas, thankfully.

Steering linkage installed, very nicely engineered, I enjoyed putting that together.

That's it for tonight, not enough natural light coming through the window, and I need to stretch my legs.

hells teeth! How many little plastic shims on the front end? Everything bar electrics and body shell should be done this evening.

Little mod to the front end. Won't be using body clips, so off it came.

Front end all together, apart from tiny screws and plastic shims, went together nicely.

Servo fitted, not much room, when I get round to buying a digital one, may go for a smaller model.
