OK, looks like today is a day for random threads from me.

I've booked to enter my FF02 in a vintage race in about 6 weeks time.  It's complete, apart from shocks.  It needs a decent set of shocks, but I've spent way too much money already this year.  I was going to install TRFs, but that's a lot of money.  I spotted some older period-correct Tamiya shocks online that should work well, but they're in HK and with some delivery issues from the east, I don't want them to get held up in postage and have to install an old set of CVAs at the last minute.

Then I remembered - I actually have a set of those shocks.  They are old alloy-body shocks for a TA03 (and others of that vintage).  The caps are pink.  I'm sure the caps are pink, because I think that was odd when I found them hanging up in an LHS a few years ago.  I actually had a TA03FS runner at the time, so I bought them to go on that.

A couple of years back I got my FF01 ready for racing, and I pulled the alloy shocks off the TA03FS and stuck them on the FF01.  Or so I thought.  Because I've just picked up the FF01 and it doesn't have those shocks on it.  Sure, they are very similar - they are alloy bodies and they have spacer clips instead of screw cups to set the shock height - but they are not pink.  I can't imagine the anodizing has come neatly off all 4 shocks in the last year or two, and I can't imagine that I am incorrectly remembering the shock colour.  So they must be a different set of shocks.  Which means the pink shocks must be on something else.

The last vintage car I raced was my TL01LA, but I've just dragged it out of the van to check, and it has TRF shocks on.  So they must be on something else.  I've checked my Fat Fox race truck (CVAs), my spare FF01 (CVAs), my TA03FS bare chassis (no shocks), I've even been over all the rally chassis on my current shelf display to see if I used them in a fit of craziness.  But no, they all have CVAs.

I've been through my shock storage box, but there's just a random selection of CVAs and other miscellaneous cheapo touring shocks in there.

I'm pretty sure I haven't sold them.  The only touring car I've sold in recent years was a Team Magic bare chassis, and I'm 99% certain it didn't have shocks at all.  I say that because it came with TRF shocks attached (I paid £40 for the rolling chassis with the shocks included - bargain) and I pulled the TRFs off before I sold it.  I know that because they're on the TL01LA.  I can't imagine I'd have put a set of vintage shocks on a modern-ish touring chassis just to put it up for sale.

Looks like I'm going to have to get up on the storage area and pull out a load of boxes later to see if I can find them.  They'll either be installed in the most random of places, or they'll go on the list of stuff that I had once and for some inexplicable reason, don't have any more.

It's not as bad as getting in the loft and finding a model that you'd completely forgotten you had.........

I usually see that as a positive :D

Where abouts is the race? Are spectators allowed

West London Racing Centre, Uxbridge, run by Iconic RC (look them up on Facebook if you're interested).  The track is situated in a public park, so there's no law to stop you from watching from outside of the track and pit limits, but the event will be run with strict social distancing measures, numbers are being limited and masks etc. will be enforced, so officially no, spectators aren't allowed at the moment :(

Normally Iconic RC is more than welcome to admit spectators, let's hope they can do that again in the future :)

Perhaps someone could put up a quadcopter with a camera and record some of it...

The organiser is usually there with his camera-on-a-selfie-stick getting some great vid action, and there has been pro aerial footage at some events.  Although, considering most events are synchronised by the weather gods with galeforce winds and torrential downpours, they can't always get the drones airborne.

The words "Iconic Revival Weekend" have become synonymous with the phrase "a weather system moving in from the east will put an end to the recent heatwave"
