wtcc5 4689 Posted April 30, 2022 @ThunderDragonCy: I am thinking of drawing the heat sink with CAD and then letting them mill. The geometry is pretty simple. Difficult would be only bending the sheet part... But also agree with @Sgt.Speirs.

I have the bent plate on mine, just not the finned heat sink. If you are getting things milled, you could get a milled version of the plate.

I will make a drawing tomorrow and will ask my favorite manufacturer for a price.

wtcc5 4689 Posted May 1, 2022 I continued with the tires. These were dried and the rubber dissolves more with every touch. I took new tires and foam inserts: From my archive I took original Tamiya Primera tire stickers. Then, I cleaned the body of my new Calsonic Primera. Prepare for eye candy: I couldn't resist and used liquid chrome for the silver part of the rim Family meeting (3 of 5):

I think I can produce the sheet metal and the heat sink on a CNC. You can send me a message with the files, if this will be an option for you.

wtcc5 4689 Posted May 30, 2022 @Quincy, @Sgt.Speirs, my father and I had a blast last weekend with our FF-01. I drew a flowing track layout and then the heat was on. As long as the cars were shiny we made some pictures and videos. I won't have the time in the coming days to finish the film, but sighted some clips already: Jaccs Accord taking off... ... and a Primera sandwhich. Unbelievable, but no FF-01 was hurt in this three-wide-scenario Unfortunately later my dads Mondeo (with HPI-Chassis) suffered the standard mechanical failure: He didn't have double-joint -cardans in his car, but still this goes on my nerves As Quincys Jaccs Accord was the superior car on the track using a locked diff, I decided to design a spool for the FF-01. Not as easy as it may sound as nothing wanted to fit, the kit bearings are very small, the TRF420 outdrives have a larger diameter for the bearing, so I had to draw new bushings for larger bearings. To find the right size to have enough space for spool and bushing left took its time...
RC Perspective 511 Posted May 31, 2022 Digging your builds man! I really want to do a FWD build. But its gotta be the PIAA Accord body or nothing for me. Have to make a replica of a 96 Accord I used to have. Unfortunately that body is hard to find so I'll have to keep an eye out for it :/ I've seen some of the stuff you design and create; You've got top tier skills man. I hope to be there one day, but you gotta start somewhere right! -RC Perspective 3
Tizer 604 Posted June 1, 2022 I'm really missing some Toyota action in those pictures
wtcc5 4689 Posted June 4, 2022 @Tizer: Yeah, also Volvo, VW and Renault are underrepresented The latter really teases me, as it was the go to body in the Tamiya championships at that time. And as we are speaking of... I bought a Clio last year and just recently found the time to make it shiny again. I added some contemporary mild tuning to the chassis with turnbuckles, wheel spacer (silver), lightweight kingpins and the top deck replacement that was trendy these days. Of course the tires were old, brittle and cracked. I replaced them and also put new MCI stickers on them: I also could add another Volvo to my collection
wtcc5 4689 Posted June 29, 2022 Here now some pictures of the Volvo: I completely cleaned and rebuild it. It got metal hexes for the wheels and blue wheelnuts. The latter just belong to this body… I don’t know why, but it is a must for me! I also shortened all cables to a custom length and rerouted the ones of the mechanical esc. The car was lightly used by the previous owner. The wheels got several deeper scratches. I bought new ones, added new rubber and hard sponge inserts as well as tire decals. The previous owner also added 1.5 sticker sets. Now I am thinking of repainting the mirrors too.

wtcc5 4689 Posted August 21, 2022 The addiction never ends, so it seems... Some weeks ago I found a unicorn on Ebay: The experts will recognize it fast: This chassis is heavily modified with some hard to find Hop-Up items. The front in detail: Very obvious is the TA-02 stabilizer set 53189 and the construction to connect it to the c-hub. Also the use of the DF-01 front uprights. These are perfect to increase the width of the front. But this was not the goal here. The former owner used TA-02 front arms to narrow the overall width or better: to keep the original width of the chassis the same. To make this arrangement stronger he also used the nice aluminium c-hubs 53226. Very cool stuff so far and it pretty similar continues this way in the rear of the car: Here the former owner looked for more setup freedom. With this similar use of front suspension parts he was able to adjust the toe, while still having a stabilizer and the upper hub support to get rid of the suspension flex under load. The use of these parts caused a problem regarding the wheelbase: It got too short. His solution was to move the arms backward by adding a new rear mount with a plate and by filing away material the original hub. To implement the stabilizer and the active-toe-links, he made new holes in the rear upper deck and suspension mount part. Looking at these thick anti-roll-bars and the foam tires makes me wonder in what grip levels he operated this FF-01 in. Must have been insanely high grip carpet. Unfortunately, the guy I bought it from, bought it himself many years ago and didn't know any of the history of this car. What a pity One last picture of this special FF-01 next to my runner:
svenb 3735 Posted August 21, 2022 Very unusual and quite clever. Although I'm not into FWD I'd be interested to know how it drives with that set up, can't be much roll resistance with thick short bars!?
ThunderDragonCy 7779 Posted August 22, 2022 Love the toe control rear end! Would be fairly easy to do some 3d printed arms to short the wheelbase without the plate. Really need to sort a rear sway bar for mine, although using that setup would also allow for less toe in too. Very nice!
wtcc5 4689 Posted August 22, 2022 Same procedure as every time: Disassemble, clean, rebuild! I found this date on the spur gear... Time just passes by and leaves us wondering... All the nice hop-ups that I found in this car: It even got the carbon shafts. The rear axles are hollow too I couldn't believe how many screws nuts and bolts were installed... This time I took the effort and polished all these: And then I started the rebuild. I will take some hop-ups away for one of my TA-02 and therefore add others for another nice tuning chassis. Diff first: I didn't make so many pictures of the build this time. Most of it was seen here trice at least before. Front unit/gear box finished. Out of curiosity and ignorance, I tried to use the DF-01 uprights with the standard arms: It will be no problem, but as said, it won't fit under the FF-01 bodies of that time, because of the increased width. The rear is pretty standard, but with inner suspension pins and turnbuckles:
RichieRich 660 Posted August 23, 2022 Why did Tamiya not make a rear stabilizer bar? Also, what does the toe control bar do? Control toe? 😃
Juls1 1653 Posted August 23, 2022 This thread makes me wonder If, should just focus on one chassis……. hmmm but then I’d have like 60 or 70 of the same chassis… bravo with the work though, I have given up on the search for aftermarket ff01 hopups ages ago, no point competing with you!! I think you need them more than me anyway.
wtcc5 4689 Posted August 23, 2022 @RichieRich: That is a good question... I don't know how much different Hop-Ups there are for the FF-01, but at least 13 or 14 from Tamiya alone. I could just guess, that they were happy with the balance of the chassis and thought a stabilizer set wouldn't sell... The active toe allows not only to set the rear toe angles like you want, but also can be tuned bump-steer-like. So you can control with shims below the ballstuds if the toe increases or decreases under load. @Juls1: Now I have a bad conscience regarding you not getting parts... But to be honest I wasn't actively searching for a long time now. This last chassis showed up a bit randomly and nobody else was bidding on it. So I was lucky once more. Do you have a favorite chassis and 60-70 of it? I continued with the rebuild. I spoke of an tuning parts exchange earlier here. And one will happen with the chassis. I have one more HPI-Carbon-Chassis-Clone set at home and use it now: I added an era correct servo and the aluminium servo mounts to it. Then the J-parts and long chassis posts of the Top Force Evolution to connect the plates: By the way: I wanted to use Xtra Speeds aluminium front chassis plate and their alu chassis plate J11 part. Both made for the Top Force Evo, but don't fit the FF-01. These should fit the TA-02 nonetheless. Right now, I am missing only three FF-01 kits/body sets: - 58121 Idemitsu Motion Mugen Civic - 58131 Toms Levin and - 58133 Jaccs Civic To this chassis I want to add the Toms Levin body: I was lucky getting one from my favorite FF-01 dealer @Quincy This is how the chassis looks at the moment.

Haha no I don’t, I do have about that many cars in my rc room. I’m more of a collect one of each guy, although there is a few I have 2-3 of. I bought a FF01 off a guy I was working with bnib when I was 17 (23 years ago now) I never thought that much of it at the time (apart from no brakes, no steering lol) I had a fairly hot 13x2 motor in it, it was the fastest car I’d ever seen at that stage of my life. While it wasn’t by a long shot my first car (probably about the 5th/6th by then) I did have a soft spot for it, it’s what got me back into tamiya again 8-9 years ago, wanting to restore that. Which instead I ended up replacing every part with either new or hopups. Ended up being an original full carbon chassis and drizzled in alloy bits. I went at it pretty full on and that bled into a fairly bombed FF03 then a really really really bombed FF02! (Which I think spawned from my love of the TL01LA).
