wtcc5's FF-01 addiction

Recommended Posts

@Sgt.Speirs: I don't know. The name suggests that Tamiya used stronger material, but I haven't tested it, yet, luckily...

The servo also gets a blue servo saver to compliment this special color combination FF-01:

Aluminum servo mounts are a must ^_^

Your FF-01 setups look amazing every time.
Also is the carbon kit the following ? Tamiya 47479 ( ta-02 carbon conversion set ) I see there are still available ones for 80/160 euros.

If I can grab one I am willing to buy some loose / spare parts to setup a FF-01 like that ( but will use the 53571 TRF DAMPER FLUORINE COATED ) as they look the coolest and did handle well on my ff-03.

Thanks! Yes it is! Except for the topdeck which has a different graphic.

The TA-04 dampers are very nice (and silver). The older version I use here is nearly the same as the later dampers. Except for the threaded damper cylinder and the additional parts which were upgraded later on (white internals, o-rings…). But you can upgrade them with all these parts plus titanium shafts and aluminum spring retainers

The TA-04 ones are one of the best looking also, but they are hard to get by, I got mine from a Dutch RC store that was the only one still having 1 for sale 'the  53571 TRFs'

From time to time I get ff-01's on sale on dutch marketplace website but havent been able to grab one yet, when that time comes I will do a proper build post here & see if I can get close to the beauty's you made and I like the fact they run the 26mm tires.
I would love a golf 4 kit ( almost impossible to get but maybe import one from ebay Japan )

Keep up the nice builds!

The weather report forecasts warm dry conditions on Saturday. With my father and my friends, I will visit the track next to Laupheim to practice for the Tamico Offroad Cup. As I have to prepare two cars for that day, I was motivated to finish the Peugeot 406 STW body today.

IMG-2337.jpg

I started yesterday with cutting, sanding, washing, masking and painting. As often it looks so easy from the outside. But in reality seven colors are needed to make it happen properly:

IMG-2340.jpg

As you can see on the first picture, I bought additional sticker sheets to have the correct sponsor graphics. I understand Tamiyas approach regarding advertising alcoholic drinks, especially with the ban in the late nineties. For me it would be "wrong" to have just red lines on the body. I watched the races live on TV and the yellow Laurent Aiello 406STW with that branding is burnt into my memory in every detail. So these stickers complete the look.

The first sticker sheet added to the body:

Stickers finished, fiddling with the exterior parts:

Three colors for the mirrors alone  and looking for the right windshield wiper...

... and there she is :

Fantastic job @wtcc5

Where did you find these bodies? I was searching for the Idemitsu Civic and the Honda Accord Aero for my FF03 but with no luck!

Thanks guys!

@TamiyaD: Except for the Idemitsu Civic (which was an ok priced Ebay purchase), I found the mentioned bodies on regional/countrywide classified ad sites. Every now and then they pop up and you can negotiate the price.

Holy cow Kevin, not my favorite shell (although my dad had the tl01 Version bitd) but you make every car look cool perfectly. Oh and i always thought the distorted hasseröder logo was sth. They actually ran, like the marlboro Black stripes etc.... well And the chassis is a true BeautY anyway. I love the looks of it, maybe even more than the Look of a hopped up ta02 or ta03. I just cant get round the fwd in my head. Didnt know you dont like the flamingo dampers.. i used to think the same, but in the meantime i like them... The Top Deck with the writing is sooo nice always.if i ever get a top force, i got to have the cfk top Deck at least :D because of the white Letters. And the lowering of the c.o.g. of course :D

@GermanTA03Guy ;) That is a nice comment! Thanks! I am still not so sure why, but the FF-01 became the chassis I love the most. For most people it is maybe just a silly plastic car. For me it has so much cool features like every model got its own wheels, the iconic bodies of 90s touring car series, then (not on the same level like the TA-03) the Hop-Ups that transform the look. And the icing on the cake: The balance/behaviour of this car. If you don’t have fun driving this, then I don’t know…

Maybe, I know exactly why I love it so much :D

If I could make a wish, I want Tamiya to do exactly this again.

Looking forward to see you build one soon ;)

Came back to this topic as I've been eyeing out the Peugeot 406 with this livery to try to fit it to an FF0x chassis. If only mine looked half as nice as Kevin's, wow!

I'm always inspired when I visit this thread. My enthusiast heart says thanks,... but my wallet is NOT happy! <_<
