I notice you stuck with the oil-filled diffs but upgraded to steel bevel gears. I just 'invested' in the solid rear axle setup # 54372 (meant for a TA06). I'm hoping this will make it a bit more tail-happy, without the additional investment of a front one-way which seems hellishly expensive!

On a loose surface, can you slide the car quite easily? Mine on 27T power and 2S LiPo just grips and grips. I'm going down the route of 10.5T Brushless, so have also got a slipper clutch kit to protect the drivetrain - do you think that it will be necessary? I'm worried the extra slip might get absorbed by the slipper clutch instead of being transferred to wheel slip which you kind-of want with a rally car!

The car drives the way to want it to drive. It can go straight, power slide, slide sideways, drifts or corner a chicane as behaved as it can be. It'll depend on how you control it which is the amazing thing with the XV-01. Something that I wasn't sure whether to believe or not (as owners said) until I got one and drove it.

On paved/on-road, the one-way in front is effective but the rear diff has to remain with a diff. The rear solid axle will definitely give the car all the slide you want but it will fishtail more often so it's like going back to a shaft driven/rear motor mounted kit. I skipped the slipper clutch because I don't have plans of running this lower than 17t. It'll do a lot of delays and lessen the action on and off dirt. But for a 10.5t, I think it's necessary to avoid chewing up your gears.

THIS is the other Car on my Dream List....  I was looking for a FWD Rally (I'm on a FWD kick lately), and originally thought of the M05 RA. My Friend called me a few things - and then said I really needed an XV-01!!!  He said, just remove the Rear Belt.

From what I've heard and seen,  Yes, yes I do!! 😉😎 I've learned so much, so quickly about XV-01, from you and a couple of others. It's made me Even more excited!!

Honestly, if you can stretch it to have both, that'll be great. In that way, you won't have to pull out the belt of the XV every time just to run it as an FF and vice versa. The XV is won't perform like an FF unless you lighten the rear. The rear is still heavy with the diff and battery placement is better in the center or moved forward if you're running as an FF car. But that is not possible with the XV unless you change to all carbon fiber chassis (conversion) which will cost so much or almost equivalent to buying an FF03 kit.

At least if you have both, you'll be able to use them for what they were supposed to be used. FF03 as an FF car and XV as a road and rally 4WD racer/basher. I'd suggest to concentrate on one build at a time. In that way, you'll learn and master the kit in and out. Discover what upgrades stages should be done and know the characteristics of the car on and off road.

Ahhh yes, the FF-03!!  My new favorite Tamiya! 💯😊  Frankly, after finishing up my M05 Build, I've already figured out enough how to make a FF that can handle light Off-Road use... (By giving the standard M05 Kit MORE ground clearance than the RA Version!)

So if I COULD have my choice, with my M05, I'd have the XV-01, AND FF-03!! 😁👍👍  Of course at this point, I can't afford either. 😞  Gives me time to decide.  You are correct though!

New 3x18mm aluminum turnbuckles for the rear and replaced all ball caps to open face adjusters (TRF-420).

I've added the blue motor mount to my basket but you can hardly see it once fitted! It's quite pricey for what it is too ($18) so I might spend the money on some of those carbon TPRC bits instead...

It's actually the same aluminum plate and the difference is just the color. But if you're a person who gets bothered by seeing that one or some important parts doesn't match, you'll probably end up changing it too.

From what I've been seeing from you and a few others....  I'm going to have to wait a while. You've set a bit of a standard - and when I get my higher spec Cars - I'm now going to want them resplendent in Blue Aluminium!!! 😁😲

My Wife will thank you later! 😖😜😂

Hahaha!

To others it's just bling, to me it's art. I enjoy building as much as driving them. I'd like to see them looking beautifully modded while displayed and doing well in performance at the same time. Sometimes, it may become heavier than usual but I don't care as long as the car still performs well as I expected it to be. I don't race full time and bash more often. I didn't go back to this hobby again to be stressed with serious racing like I did before. It takes away the fun and leaves you stressed every after the race seeing your car damaged, wrecked and needs a lot of spending to rebuild it. Sure that's part of the hobby but that's not the same goal I'm after when I decided to go back to RCing.

I have other hobbies like diecast models collection/customization/modification, Star Wars collection, kick scooting, DJ stuff (real ones), vinyl records collection, etc and I'd like to see them all looking nice and not trashy.

@Nicadraus I got my start in Static Models, then Model Railroading. To me, Scale and Detail have always come FIRST.

That's why I left RC for an almost 18 year hiatus. RC Cars started looking like BLOBS on Flat Carbon Fiber Chassis!! 😖😡

RC Scaler/Crawlers are what brought me back! While there, I rediscovered Tamiya!! My RC roots.

I'm so bad, I actually got SICK when the CRX Body was delivered - and I saw BODY POST HOLES in the middle of the Rear Window!!! 😡😡😡😞

In my Build Thread here, I went to great lengths to modify the Rear Mounts.

Anyone who started as a modeler before RC knows details for sure. I also started with 1/24 scale cars and some 1/72 planes then mini 4WD before getting into RC. My dad and uncle inspired me. But since I started working on diecast models, I ditched the plastic ones and went on with 1/18 and 1:43 scale. The metal models just look so much better and realistic as compared to a well built plastic. No comparison. Also, preparation and process is just like building a 1:1 car scaled down to 1:18.

I definitely see it as an Art form. Some of my Friends call it impractical.... I also get bugged for NOT taking a RC out without at LEAST a Driver Figure and rudimentary Interior!!!

I have NO INTENTION of Driving Autonomous Vehicles!! 😳😖   I'm weird like that. I'm about to make my only exception soon. I've been Building a M05 Kit, piecemeal, for too long. A few really nice Guys helped me finish it!! 👍👍😊

They want to see her RIP! I don't want to deny them - even though I can't find ANY Interior Plate or even partial Interior for an M Chassis Car. 😞  I'll likely end up Scratchbuilding something acceptable....

If you're at all interested, the Build Thread is on here. I'll warn you in advance, some of my methods can be unorthodox!! 😜

I also collect 1/18th Scale Diecast, and 1/43rd Scale to go with my O Gauge Trains. And still build 1/24th Scale Plastic Models.

I read where you said you were a DJ... So was I. 😁 80's and early 90's. Also in a Band, Lead Singer, Writer, Keyboards. 🎶  Music was always part of my life!

A Guy I know here asked me to cover a gig for him, DJ'ing a Club for a weekend... As much as I NEEDED the money, I couldn't. I'm Old School. I SPIN, Records! I've never used a CD Mixer, much less mp3. I'd be LOST. 😜

Vinyl DJ here. But I have also adapted the digital as well. In my 30 years of DJing, I have to learn all but still prefer vinyl over anything else. Nothing compares. I still have my sets of 1200s. I have 2 pairs as my personal and have a couple more. I have a small 1200 refurbishing company. Check it out if you have time. Just search my page Works1200 in FB. :)

Still waiting for my XV01 hop-ups to arrive, but have a quick Question for you.

My 2nd-hand XV01 has a set of Yeah Racing 60mm dampers on which feel incredibly smooth and squishy. Kind-of what you would want off-road I guess?

Reading around I saw that the common upgrade on the Long-damper spec was the GF01 60mm Tamiya dampers (like TRF, but not branded as such). So I bought a set of these in anticipation, but neglected to buy any springs.

I now read that the setting springs are the TRF201 front spring set, which has just come back into stock. So...

Should I invest in the springs and run the Tamiya parts, or stick with the Yeah Racing dampers? I have a GF01 so the dampers won't go to waste either way!

The YR comes with 2 sets of springs. Try experimenting with them first before pulling the trigger on other springs. The YR springs fit TRF dampers and I'm sure it would too on the GF-01. Another thing I would suggest since your using long damper shock towers is changing the rod end to longer ones on the YR like shown in the pic below and use the normal YR springs...

Slight problem is that I bought used, so no spare springs only what is fitted. They look like below - collars are wound down really far too for added pre-load (not by me) does this look correct?

Well the short spring definitely isn't for that. It looks like a spring for a 50-55 damper. The rod end isn't original for that damper as well. I'd suggest replacing the springs for better rebound and damping.

 No good all-round then. I've ordered the TRF201 front spring set and I'll wait for my GF01 dampers to turn up. I'll find a use for these Yeah Racing ones I'm sure...

I'm holding you responsible for my latest expenditure...although I've resisted getting that blue motor plate so far...

Without committing FELONY Threadjacking...😜

I am definitely an old School Vinyl guy. Been around for quite a while. In the Club that I did regular Gigs, buried DEEP underground in Midtown Manhattan... I introduced two cuts from a young Girl from Michigan, AMBITIOUS, but not the best looking or singing....

The Demo Cuts were "Shooting Star" and "Holiday".

Any Old Farts want to take a stab at who She IS?? NOW... I'm not going to try to SNOW you, and try to tell you that I discovered Her.... But I was one of the earliest Guys to spin Her Tunes!  (I'm SORRY! I have been a Professional Musician and Producer for most of my life. - I CANNOT call that MUSIC!)

SL-1200 Mk2..... The ONLY Tone Arm I'll let touch any of my precious Vinyl!! I'll even post a quick look at the one I've got left... NEVER getting rid of it - no matter HOW HUNGRY we get! This is my Grandson's College Tuition.

Doesn't need the Felt Disc Protector anymore....

..... For your drooling pleasure! 😜

{TRUE STORY - A guy I knew, trying to impress a Girl (WHAT ELSE). At a Party (WHERE ELSE) He, running out of Lines, knows that she's a HUGE MJ Fan. HE has the 1982 "THRILLER" Picture Disc! She's thrilled, and wants to hear it. (They WERE cut straight from the Master, and DO sound better)....

His Dad also had Technics, SL-1300. Not an awful Turntable in its own right - but the Stylus Balance must not have been done in a while...... SCRRRRRRAAAATCH!!! 😳😖😭😭😭

SHE LEFT, never saw him again. The now Priceless Picture Disc was marred!! (It was even worth a LOT in 1988! Not even CLOSE to what it's worth today, but...)

Can anyone suggest a good brushless motor and esc combo in the 50-150$ range I just got the 58528 | Tamiya 1/10 XV-01 Team Arai and just got back into rc and I d really appreciate any help.
No racing just bashing around and driving it with my lil son.

P.S.

cables must be soldered on. Any links would be highly appreciated

This came in today and is probably the best $12 wheel & tires combo. Ordered this unbranded set online. The tires are very well made and grip is fantastic. The wheels are exactly the same as Tamiya.
