Just a thought, bit late now, but I should have maybe put a mark at the top of the wheel arches where the centre is before I cut them out to get the post hole positions.

I like your logic @Grumpy pants, the M08 has a plan B if this doesn't work out. An Alpine body as its being rere'd again ;)

So, bit more progress as its sort of Sunday for me back on Roster tomorrow.

Front end assembled, with kit supplied bearings and a the blue bling shims. I must admit it does feel nicer going together over the M05, there are only 2 self tappers in the whole kit, the rest are machine thread screws.

One little stuff up I made was I didn't realise I needed a low profile servo and Ive only got a standard size one spare at to mo....whoops. At least I can carry on without for now.

You do need a magnifying glass though for the C hubs to be able to identify the notch for correct orientation here..

Oh yeah!! This is a NICE bit of Kit! Something HAD to be extra fiddly... It's Tamiya! 😜  So, those miniscule C6 parts - are they to allow for Caster adjustments?? Or do they just act as Bearings for the C-Hubs?

That Front Suspension looks like they've improved on a whole lot of issues the older ones had. You're making my mouth water!! 😜

The C6 parts are how Tamiya decided to adjust the caster for the M08 relative to the M07. Beware though, this solution has made the area fragile and prone to damage on impact, which is unfortunate. Consider using standard M07 parts instead, or better yet aluminum M07 hub carriers.

A pub lunch with a mate later and I set about preparing to drill the post holes with the the aid of a Lazy Susan that helps to spin the car around and be able to view all angles without disturbing to much...

That really looks GREAT! I can now see that the Colt Body's only real shortcoming is the depth of the Windows....

Frankly that's not the worst problem it could have!! 😊 You did about spot on with the Wheel Arches. That's always been one of my weaker spots. Yeah.... That Chassis is SWEET!! 😁👍👍

@DeadMeat666 So if I get the M07, I'll have different C-Hubs?

Once happy with the position and marks made, we're going in with the drill and Voila...

I put a another mark on the front wheel arch here that may cut out further yet. It's something I had in mind and turns out that that front tyre 'just' catches a little, sanding would fix it though the other three wheels clear the body, tested with compressing the suspension as well,  I suppose I could just keep turning left and not turn right?

I did also think I'd left plenty on the body posts too, apparently not, that was close

I have an M07, and it's C hubs don't have those tiny fiddly pieces you insert at the lower hinge.

If I was doing this again ( @Grumpy pants ;) ) I think I would move 1 part D1 to the other end of the suspension arm shaft reducing the wheelbase a touch more to aid clearance for this particular body.

Well as luck would have it an unexpected day off for the town's Show Day, even though there is no actual show we get a bank holiday for it anyway :)

So feeling in the mood for shaking some rattle cans and masking I made a start on the roof.

I've been wanting to have a go at fading so I thought I'd try a two tone Union Jack fade Silver to Gun Metal. I printed of a Black & White flag as a guide. Taping the flag to the outside of the roof and holding up to the light the lines show through more than well enough to see where to put the masking tape.

Once the masking tape was on, then I set about cutting up a cat food box and taping it to the bag the body came in to aid the fading.

I'm a couple of coats of paint in now, so I'm updating here to help resist the temptation of spraying to many coats on to quickly and stuffing it up. So far so good.

That's not just cool.... It's impressive!!! 👍👍 I just wish I saw this last week, before doing the "use half a Roll of Masking Tape to paint the Bumpers and Trim" wasteful method on my Honda!! 😖

Nearly worked

Hasn't come out to bad there is a 'bit' of fade and will probably show a more when the dark goes on. I know what happened, I sprayed the last coats to close.

18mm & 6mm Tamiya masking tape worked out well for the proportions though I think :D

I have a feeling this is going to be really really nice...

No pressure now then 😂

Its always the intention at the start at least, I see now that one of the centre lines towards the windscreen is a bit wider on right compared to the left one. But if that’s the worst that goes wrong I happily take that 👍🏻.

I ended up moving both of D1 spacers to the rear of the suspension arm in the end for this one BTW.

are the rims plastic or metal? and due they have a center cap to hide the wheel nuts?

i like those a lot

The’re the standard kit M chassis rims off my Scorched 2CV (M05) I think they come with the Beetle & VW Buses too. I’m just using them to get the body position and change them at a later date. They don’t have anything to cover the nut unfortunately and are plated plastic.

i'll find some hub cap centers for them, probably a plumbing part,  lil' chrome plug cap, bet i have some somewhere? a lil' logo center piece and they'd be styln':D

@Re-BuggedI have a question about painting the body. I saw in several places that you're supposed to spray on the darker colors first, starting with anything that's black and then working your way up to the lighter colors. How come you started with silver, which is pretty light?

You are correct about the order of paint @DeadMeat666 👍🏻 as a rule of thumb, but in a nutshell,

1, I just thought it would be much easier for masking going the way I went, I couldn’t see in my minuscule brain how I would get the fade to work how I wanted it going with the dark first,

2, I sprayed the centre of the UJ until I couldn’t see through it up to the light anymore so should be thick enough not to be affected by the dark underneath, if it does go slightly darker it won’t matter as it’s not matching anything else,

3, Coz I can really 😉. I must admit I did contemplate a bit of white backing though.

Silver is widely used as a backing colour so if it works that way without affecting the top coats of colour it should be OK fingers crossed.

don't want to hijack dear sweet mild mannered Re-Bugged's post, but yes eric will find them, ACCEL not so much:lol:

it's when your not looking for them they magically appear.

it's like everything i do, that's why when something takes longer to do, more things appear.

They tell me my Great Grandfather was from England and settled in Texas, raised his family and owned a Hardware, Dry Goods store, despite that Austin Powers, James Bond and some others,  I love the JACK!

Re-Bugged that's a lot of lines to mask off, maybe try Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstein's Guitar graphics on the next one, that would be nice:D.
