Wheel axle width problem

Recommended Posts

hi.

I picked some Louise E Spider wheels for my DF03 but they rub on the inside on the front steering arm.

I've tried 7mm hex but they still rub.

Any one have an idea what I'd need?

Cheers

Peter

They would work, but you might need to run a longer axle with them in order to get the wheel nut on.

I've been having similar trouble finding alternate wheels that would fit on the df03 without clipping the bottom suspension arm corners at full steering lock. What I've been thinking of doing is putting a dab of acrylic white paint on the corners of the arms and spinning the wheels to see where they touch, so that I can dremel out those bits off the wheel, but I'm afraid I'll run into wheel balance issues (and I don't have a dremel tool, which is just a tiny technicality and easy to overcome I'm sure).

As a result I now have 2 spare sets of wheels that are sitting in a box with no car assigned to them, which is unfortunate.

I'm guessing this is one of the reasons that Tamiya shipped the df03 with different wheels than all the other buggies they were producing at the time, which predominantly had star-dish wheels. Until I find a resolution I'm pretty much stuck with the stock wheels, which are thankfully not that bad-looking.

Look for a set of ,low profile serrated nuts, means you can go wider with the hexes.

Schumacher wheels fit, although still a bit close, these are with the stock plastic hexes, and using the Nylocs, so can still go a fair bit wider if need be.
