If you only have one ball diff kit

I agree, they can be better but if just bashing the a well greased gear diff is adequate

What worse are the consequences if things "done by feel" aren't correct. If you're off, you can mess up a ball diff pretty quick. Things tightened and torqued to specifications help me sleep at night :D. I know it works, but the thought of all the motive power going through essentially tiny contact points on tiny diff balls pressed against diff rings....well, I guess I just like me some gear diffs.

Makes sense.
