goth brooks 108 Posted August 7, 2020 has anyone purchased an abs rc body made by kamtec? i saw they made a hearse model, and i think it looks cool.
Hobgoblin 1059 Posted August 7, 2020 Yes I've had a lada and a Nissan Cedric from kamtec, not the most sharp or detailed bodies but excellent value for money. Be mindful most of what they make is for 1:12 scale though!
TurnipJF 9113 Posted August 7, 2020 I have bought a good few bodies from them. The quality is highly variable in my experience. The Morris Minor van is excellent for example, smooth and symmetrical, while the Hot Rod Beetle looks like the buck was carved using a blunt pen knife by a bloke with one eye. The left and right windows are different sizes, and the scratches and blemishes in the buck are visible on the outer surface of the moulding. Still, they are cheap!
goth brooks 108 Posted August 7, 2020 are they just 3d printed bodies? are they really mostly 1/12? i was just going off wheelbase specs. seems like the hearse would fit a tt02.
Hobgoblin 1059 Posted August 7, 2020 No they're vacuum formed. If the wheelbase is all right then should he grand. They're easy to get a hold to double check anyway. Just meant they have a greater variety of bodies for their own kits which tend to be 1:12. They cater to many ranges

stuhas 268 Posted August 7, 2020 Yes just on with one now. Really good quality just not the detail you are used to with Tamiya bodies 2
goth brooks 108 Posted August 7, 2020 what do you use for the windows once you cut them out?
Why me? 24 Posted August 8, 2020 10 hours ago, goth brooks said: what do you use for the windows once you cut them out? Nothing generally, when I used to race 1:12 mini stocks many years ago this type of body was what we all used, as there was a good variety of body shapes- minis, Peugeot 205, escorts etc etc, and being raced indoors on carpet you didn’t need to worry about dirt etc.
stuhas 268 Posted August 8, 2020 I am going to use 1mm clear perspex from eBay and attached with Canopy Glue which dies clear
Wez-li 1790 Posted August 8, 2020 I've got a few mardave/kamtec bodies that came in a job lot, Ford escort, capri and vw camper plus a Sierra cossie too. The detail isn't great as mentioned above, but good basher/banger racing bodies if you've got a m-chassis as they're too short for standard tamiya touring cars as far as I can tell...
goth brooks 108 Posted August 10, 2020 i ordered that hearse body because i am goth and i want to stay on brand. 2
nowinaminute 2813 Posted August 10, 2020 A lot of them are just right for the CW01 chassis. Detail is a bit lacking but they can still look great from a reasonable distance with a coat of paint on them and they are good value for bashing shells and a bit of fun. They just started doing a Lunchbox style shell actually. I just wish they did stickers for more of the bodies, even if it was just plain black window stickers. The windows are one of the trickiest things to cut out and reduce the shell strength so I prefer to just use stickers for windows. Easy enough to make some with some plain black vinyl but getting the dimensions and shape right involves a lot of guess work, a few mm or degrees can make the difference between looking ok and looking crap. Same as if you just mask off and paint them on. Sometimes the shell has enough definition to work it out but other times you're just trying to guess and only have a completely smooth surface to work with and decide where the pillars should be etc
stuhas 268 Posted August 10, 2020 A bit more done on mine. Going on the TT02 Chassis. Got plenty of detail work to do on it yet. The Body is just placed on the chassis at the moment. A Little detail with the air intakes Also fitted the rear wing
Carmine A 2046 Posted August 25, 2020 @stuhas I've SEEN your work before..... Not the slightest bit worried about it looking anything less than BRILLIANT!! 🍻👍👍
Carmine A 2046 Posted August 25, 2020 BTW, Anyone looking here from the U.S. or Canada?? I've bought a couple of Bodies from Kamtec before... They Ship nearly anywhere in N. America, fairly quick Shipping and reasonable cost. (Especially if you buy 5 or more)😉 If you REALLY want to be pleasantly surprised with Overseas Ordering - and are SICK of the 2-4 MONTH SHIPPING, if it arrives at all. 😡(World, China really doesn't like us at ALL)!! But I digress - AGAIN!!! 😖 I was actually referring to Tony's Tamiya Shop, in Birmingham, England. somewhere!! 😜 I'm not sure. HARD to find bits, good prices. Several times, Shipping had been FREE!!! BUT He's also got an Evilbay Store... https://ebay.com/usr/tonystamiyaparts975 All Bodies have been Lexan so far. Still chicken to try one of their ABS Bodies. 😳 NOT that I'm worried about being able to work with it or mount it on a Chassis.... I'm concerned about the one piece, thin molded ABS Bodies, holding up to much abuse. 😜 For my English friends - NO worries!! They don't have to travel over 6000 miles for them, so it's really cheap for them. At least for us... The English take Pride in safe packaging and efficient Shipping!! 👍👍

goth brooks 108 Posted August 26, 2020 @Carmine A it took about three weeks to get my kamtec body from the uk to los angeles via ebay.

Yeah I got a Bowler wildcat on the builds forum if I ever get it finished. Also had a VW bug from Keith back in the day. Decent quality bodies well moulded and easy to paint. Only thing is a lot of his stuff is Mardave Banger class so may be 1/12th scale, so may need an M chassis to run on
