Thanks guys! Very kind words 😊

I just came home and now have the body in front of me, but no motivation today. Tomorrow I will start cutting.

When I arrived home the first tuning part was in my mailbox:

Not something you would have guessed first I think 😁

Then the piston rods cost more than the whole CVA shock. Strange people do such things....

O.k., I´ve done it sometimes, too!

They were pretty affordable. 11€ for two sets 🙈 Makes 2,75€ per rod 😅

I started to cut the body today. ****, that was no fun

Tamiya gives a very good as well as long manual on how to do the cutting. The crux of the matter are the angular shapes everywhere, that do not easily allow the way of cutting that Tamiya suggests (cutting once and then bend the cut until it snapps off). So I mostly did the cutting with scissors and nearly got blisters...

bbcc1da4-6e34-4b4f-9mfkh9.jpeg

The amount of small curves, angled surfaces and holes to drill (35 say the manual) is just a new experience. Since the Toyota TS050, building the body is more complicated and time consuming than the chassis. Which is a turnaround. For me the body is of course an important part to present the chassis, but its complexity and time to make, should be far lower than the chassis.

Oh well, Tamiya ups its body game and I (we?) follow. All I want to say is, that I am very happy with having the cutting finished and can tomorrow focus on masking and painting:

Still not finished 😅

Today I made good progress in the sparetime I had.

Masking and painting were easy and fast done:

Attaching the panels was quite fun. It resembles building the chassis because of the screws 🤣

Every panel and screwhole sits and fits were it belongs. No panel is bend from the deep drawing.

After attaching the sidepod panels, it was time for the first decals.

The pictures do not show it right in my opinion. The body looks really good and  is a challenge for the view habit. If it wasn’t for the cutting, it would be actually quite fun to build it. I hope Tamiya will bring this body in a precut version soon.

All what is left now, are the remaining decals, mirrors and halo.

Your photos of the trimmed body pieces had really put me off. The photos of the painted body have changed my mind - I would have one if I could find some space for it. Great work!

I am almost MAD enough to try it.... Almost!! 😜😂

That really looks crazy COOL!! Batmobile like. Certainly a styling leap for Tamiya - showing what's possible with Lexan.

@wtcc5 thanks for sharing your build/work! I wanted to ask about the paint, did you end up using PS-63 Bright Gun Metal for the silver area? Thanks.

No, I used the standard silver (PS-12). I found Tamiyas color choice a bit too dark in comparison to pictures of the real car:

Perfect would have been a medium grey, but my color choice at home was limited.
This Gen2 car design changed often. You can make it all black or make the front wing black. Always looks good 😁

I finally finished the body today; really happy with the result:

Lets take a closer look at some details:

The chosen silver looks pretty much like the real thing in normal daylight:

I also finished the battery connection. Normal stick lipos are a little too high, so they only fit with pressure and force. With shorty lipos you will have the problem of covered plugs... So three options:

1. use sub-c cell style battery with cable

2. use a lcg lipo

3. use a 1/12 sized 2S lipo

Unfortunately it rains all the time. So no shakedown possible...

Who am I 🤣

One thing I forgot is the body weight:

e32d7e14-916e-4f11-87wktg.jpeg

That is quite acceptable for this thick lexan and all the screws and helmet..

Alright then let the tuning begin.

4a1745d9-5a07-48a9-acbk2o.jpeg

Three targets did I have:

1. Get a crispy steering,

2. A full adjustable suspension

and

3. to implement the SSBB damper.

The last topic isn’t touched up to now. The first two are ok,  but not perfect, yet. Lets start with the steering.

The servo saver had to go as well as the strange brace between servoears and servomount. Proper servoscrews are now used and the aluminium arm.

e8cb948e-2843-488b-bcrj4u.jpeg

The steeringarms are all aluminium now and with ball bearings:

57a90cb2-1f46-4c9c-bxuklv.jpeg

Unfortunately this is not enough to get rid of the slop. The problem is the space between topdeck and steeringarms. This must be shimmed away.

The suspension got three updates: Turnbuckles and open face retainers everywhere, full adjustable upper links/arm and TRF420 wheelhubs.

a42643aa-4e49-4da8-bvyj6h.jpeg

ac979f69-f6ee-47f8-b3jk7d.jpeg

Everything fits and can move freely. I am not 100% satisfied with the upper inner retainers. I might change them soon with angled ones from Yokomo to have more space for the rocker. For the outer upper retainers I used Awesomatix parts together with Xray ballstuds.

Oh, and double joint cardans went into the car also 😁

Didn't take you long... 😁

Going after the important stuff first too. TIGHT Steering might have SAVED my Car, when a Tire flew off at nearly 40mph!!  I consider Steering and Suspension to be more important than anything else.

Are you also replacing the rocker arm and suspension mounts with aluminum...?

Yeah you will for sure.

Why the solid arm on the servo? Won't that just kiss goodbye to your servo gears on the first impact?

Lots of pretty blue parts already available for this considering how fresh it is. I wonder if it would ever be possible to do a carbon deck version, either OEM or aftermarket? Or is it is just too 3-dimensional for that do you think?

I race solid servo arms for 5 years now and just killed one servo in that time with a stupid move. I won’t recommend a solid servo arm to anyone, but somehow my talent is enough to handle it without killing servos all the time.

I want to add more tuning parts, but a lot aren’t available right now.

Right now I see only one problem doing a carbon chassis conversion, but that isn’t enough to stop me from trying. I am just not sure how far I should go. Keeping the lower arms and mounts or go full carbon and with C-hubs... I think, that I will also make it only for lcg (shorty) lipo sticks...
