I am proud to announce, that I saved this jewel from either dying in the attic or getting thrown away sooner or later 🤓

My uncle didn’t drive it since 1996 and I just remembered its existence by looking at old family pictures some weeks ago.

Now I am super excited doing the restoration in the next weeks 😊

Nice find Kevin!

A model I should have bought years ago!:)

When Collin aka Tom is back from holiday, he has for sure some recommendations for you, which parts to improve!

In case you may have missed his new website:

https://wrenchdog.org/

There you can see his full program for the Dyna series.;)

Kind regards,

Matthias

I hope you are right and this just ends up as "cleaning job" 😅

Nevertheless, I ordered new tires and rear rims.

The yellow color has chipped in front of the body. I don't now if it is because of the wrong paint or insufficient body preparation...

Also the stickers come loose. Any suggestions on how to reattach them properly?

Superglue for the decals. Works great!

I’ve not had that issue but i have read on here there are a few manufacturers of adhesive specifically for stickers, people also clear coat over the top to keep them down. Not really a fan of superglue myself as it can age badly and also make certain plastics more brittle. Look forward to seeing the restoration reports!

Not sure how accurate superglue causing aging or making the plastic brittle is but if it’s for a light runner, it doesn’t really matter. Considering the dynablaster is rare and parts aren’t the easiest to get, I doubt it will be getting much use.

I started with the disassembly.

Except for the dirt, the parts look very good. Only the D2 right rear armmount is broken.

The good old Keil DTM motor with Reedy branding and Yokomo endbell:

Just the front suspension and the clutch/gearbox left to disassemble:

And then I found this in the manual:

I like how extra polite Tamiya phrased the apology. It is often the little things that bind the customer. I remember this also from Team Associated  when I build the RC10T2 in 1996.

Suspension mounts and bulkhead are broke as usual.

What are you planning to do at the end?

About the shell, for hard use try to find a Stadium Thunder one in 2nd hand, they pop up for very low price usually.

The one you have looks preety nice to me from colour sceme.

I really like to drive it once or twice. The plastic looks a little brittle and suspension parts are not to come by... Thinking of making the D2 part myself with 3d print or maybe even from aluminum depending on the chassis becoming a shelf queen right away or not.

Why are these Dyna Blaster parts so hard to get? Is there a list where the production numbers can be seen?

They only share this broken parts with Dyna Storm and TR-15T. Both very rare and hard to find. The Dya Storm was only re releases once, Blaster and TR-15T never.

If you can print and draw, susp. mounts are easy to reproduce. Bulkhead is a bit tricky.

Try a hairdryer or heatgun on a low setting. Works wonders for me!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Today I used my free of work time to clean all the parts except for the diff (want to relax now 😅). I am very happy to have this work out of the way. I really should buy an ultrasonic cleaner. Cleaning all the screws and bushings by hand is a little annoying. Oh well, the bright side is, that now I can look forward to do a manual build as if this car is fresh out of the box. Something I really enjoy!

Again evidence for the good condition; drivetrain and gears look very good and became white again after cleaning. The cardans have nearly no wear and slop. I just wonder how to re-grease the joints properly 🧐

Pure pleasure! Would like a poster out of this pic.

The CVD, I dont grease them because sand would stick on it. Use ballbearings instead of brass ones and put some foam (cut some earplugs) into the outdrive cups to eleminate slope.

If you really want to grease the kardan, I recommend a rubber cup over it for protection.

Thanks!

I thought these should be greased 😅 But without is even more attractive! Ball bearings are ordered 😁 I also think it is an insult to put brass bearings in such a chassis.

The old foam inside the drive cups became sand as soon as I touched it. I thought about using the pink damper foam pieces.

Lets start! It will be a manual build with manual pictures. A lot of pictures :D

I will use ball bearings instead of brass bearings.
