DT-03 "a modo mio" (in my way)

Recommended Posts

So, at some point in the construction of my Toyota Tundra I wanted something easy.

Why not build a DT-03? Simple, clean, fun (I already had one a few years ago). Then if we want to add some thrill, we can always think of something different.

OK, the result has not been sensational, it seems that in the past months my idea has been that of many others, here in TC forum...:P

The preparation of this DT-03 "a modo mio" requires the following ingredients:

 - DT-03 kit (obviously)

 - Lot of bling bling optional various shape and colors

 - Special tires and wheels

 - Lexan body

Anything you want, just make your favorite pizza.

This is the first order

DT-03 Racing fighter Black Edition (because full of hop up )

Rock Socker lexan body

GPM parts dedicated to the front of the model.

Shake the box a little bit, open the lid and with a little luck we find the assembled model.

If the trick doesn't work you can always try it in the most classic way. Tools, manual and lots of care.

A little bit of color

Adhesive sheet "carbon look"

A little weight on the nose

Long axis, I want a T version...

For the first test I choose a sport tuned motor and  a 19T pinion

and to speed up the assembly, four shock absorbers already assembled, too long unfortunately

here come tires and rims, by VRX Racing

In the meantime I have made a second order:
GoolRC brushless system, 60A 4300KV
17T steel pinion
aluminium shock absorbers supports
aluminum shock absorbers

As a result:
the tires end up quickly in the basket

accidents cause victims

A separate matter for these "fantastic" shock absorbers from less than 8 euros per pair.

On the front still work decently, if you use the springs of the DT03 kit,  loading them with 400 Tamiya silicon oil.

To the rear...drama. The model slams on the ground with oil 400, 1000, 2000, 3000. Hard or soft springs, lots of tests, always bangs.

I decide to disassemble them to understand.

I only have this photo; the piston has very small diameter, 9.3mm against the 9.8 of the Tamiya one you see on the right side. Instead of two holes has two notches.

Okay, I don't want to know anything about it. Change the pistons with Tamiya ones, load with oil 400 and springs of DT03 kit and use the lower pins of Tamiya kit and gain about 5 mm of length. Now everything goes great.

At the front, piston with two holes by Tamiya and confirm the oil from 400.

the new set of HPI tires and rims still to be glued

Looks great!  I'm tempted to do the same thing with my Rock Socker body now.

The goolrc combo lasted two discharges, then holy smoke and goodbye.... now it has been replaced by a skyrc cheetah combo with 10,5T motor,

I also mounted the ball differential and torsion bars this afternoon. I'm curious to try it again.

And finally, following these suggestions

https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/98745-dt0203-hub-options/ ,  thanks to @matisse

replacement of the suspension arms with those of the DF-03 chassis

spacer.png

Oops, front mounted backwards, I corrected before reassembling the model but I forgot the photos

Some original tamiya parts I could not find them but I made do with something similar with the help of dremel

And here is the final result

I am still waiting for the 48.5mm pins to fix the rear arms.

And now, with all the leftover parts, adding something I also managed to assemble an "almost" black edition racing fighter.
