THE "RULES" AS THEY STAND:

The postal races were started in order to give us something fun to do while the Coronapocalypse keeps us from our usual RC activities, and as such has very few rules as we want it to be as inclusive as possible. However since there have been a few procedural modifications, revisions and clarifications since this all started, and we have welcomed several new entrants since Round 1, I thought it might be helpful to summarise how it all works at present, in order to avoid the need to trawl through the last 48 pages to figure it all out. So, here goes:

1.  Each round starts with a fresh track layout. Check this thread to see the layout for the current round. (You may need to go back a couple of pages to see it.)

2.  Measure and mark out the track layout on the surface of your choice,  using the markers of your choice. You can set up the track anywhere you like, as long as it is safe and legal of course.

3.  Choose the car(s) that you are going to run. You can enter as many different cars as you wish. You can run any combination of chassis, motor and battery you like, as well as any body style, but please run with a body of some description rather than a naked chassis. This is a family-friendly forum after all! :D

4.  Run your car(s) around the track for 5 minutes while counting your laps, and when the 5 minutes have elapsed, finish the lap you are on and count that too. Optionally, you can also measure and submit your fastest lap time. Keep these to yourself - don''t share them on the forum while the round is in progress. At the end of the round, the results will be collated and posted in this thread.

5.  Once you have recorded your best lap total for each car that you want to enter for the current round, submit your results by email  to tcpostalracing@gmail.com including the following details for each entry:

  • lap count
  • forum username
  • chassis (and shell if you wish)
  • motor
  • battery
  • track surface
  • running weight (optional)
  • fastest lap (optional)

6.  The person with the highest lap count wins the honour of choosing the next round's track layout. This can be one of their own design, or one suggested by another entrant. (Everyone is encouraged to suggest a track layout if they wish, and the winner does not have to design a layout if they don't want to.) When the track layout has been decided, the next round begins and we do it all over again!

During the round, you are encouraged to share experiences, advice, photos, etc, but please remember not to give away your lap counts or times before the Grand Reveal at the end of each round. Also, feel free to invite and/or challenge others to join in the fun. The more the merrier!

Just a thought, maybe edit the first post in this thread and keep the rules there? We could also keep a record of all the track layouts and top finishers for all the rounds too, and it would be all in one place as easy reference... as I say, just a thought, and I can help get the track info together if you want!

I wouldn't want to become too reliant on editing past posts, as sometimes the forum locks editing of older posts for no apparent reason. Putting the rules back at the start is a good idea though, so while Post 1 is still editable, I have followed your suggestion.

I sneaked out this morning at 7.30 to avoid the forecast rain so I could get some laps in.

Naturally it didn't rain until lunchtime 🙄

Realised that yesterday I'd been playing on the wrong course so today I actually set out the course for round 8! Loads of fun.

Discovered that making little flags from tent pegs with fabric on is a great idea. Except that when you hit one at speed, it forms a ramp which sends your car on a little jump and, obviously, rolls onto it's back! 😂🙄

Did some lawnmowing.

Where do people run on asphalt? I am pretty free to run my touring cars in the street but i couldn't mark out a track for an hour and run it in the road. I have been trying to think of big car parks, but nothing is in walking distance and the local shops are all open 6-11 so no go there. Any suggestions?

I use school playgrounds or open playgrounds. Concrete tennis courts are my favorite since they have some rubber color on them. Grips amazing.

Well, i had a go with this at the park today and MAN that is a tight track! I couldn't get the lap couter working as i couldn't get it into a position to work, but i had fun. I also gave up and marked out and much bigger track, which was some of the most enjoyable running i have done with the buggies for ages. So, i don't think i'll be able to get involved in the racing, but thanks for encouraging me to get the cones. Have fun with tje racing 🏁

Glad you had fun! At the moment we are focusing on small, tight tracks that people may be able to fit into their gardens or driveways during lockdown. When restrictions ease a bit, we'll be setting up longer, more flowing tracks that might suit you better, so check back sometime. You might want to join in then.

Had another go at the track this afternoon. Lovely sunny weather and at least 15 degrees warmer than last weekend! Younger son wanted to upgrade from the Thunder Blitz a little and decided he liked the TB-01 Focus, so we changed the rally block tires for slicks.

Postal Racing

The TB-01 has a brushless 2300 kv system, so I was a bit worried if he could handle the power, but he did really well and improved his lap count by quite a margin!

My older son and  I also managed to improve our lap counts with our TT-02s, me being very happy that I managed to stay exactly one lap ahead!

Postal Racing

If I haven't said it before: thanks for this great thread, I haven't had this much fun actually driving my rc models in a long time!

Have you had a look at some of the previous layouts. Prior to this lock down some were a bit bigger (one had a 10m stretch I think). While the results are in, it could be good fun to see how your counts compare against the different vehicles etc.

I’m hopefully going to get some laps in, if I can keep the stones out of my ta07. Mid week I had a little bash on the surface, and got two stones jammed this time. 13 degrees where I am, nearly summer :D

Success, two runs done.
XV01 felt good, the ground was damp so lots of fun sliding the back end proud to complete the hair pin. A good run, decent lap count I think

TB05 had a pinion change earlier in the week, and felt a darty and nervous. However it destroyed the lap count of the XV01 by 10%! Might have to look at the gearing of the XV01 now.

The Vajra hadn’t been run in a long time. Rear out drive was dislodged, so a bit of fettling before we could get started. The kids were more interested in this one, so we had a fun bash in the garden. However the out drive came out again, and there looks to be some wear on the outside of the gearbox. Somethings amiss, so some surgery will have to happen. So no lap count measured for this one. Never going to threaten the other cars with its hard tyres, but it’ll be interesting to see what it can do.

Had a great day today, I didn't try for as many laps as I could but just getting a feel for the track. I must say that I really liked this one. Spent the day trying different types of tyres then changed my spring, just great having a dry track for a change. Noing my luck, when I come to time my laps it will have all changed again and I will be back to square one.

I've managed to get one run at this, with just a half dozen practice laps before so I'll not be bothering the top middle of the timesheets at all. It was nice to get a little bit of a drift on around the bottom marker though!

Didn't get time to give the Lunchbox a go, just for comedy porpoises. Hopefully I'll be back home early April and will get more time for round ten.

I took the G6-01 out for a run, initially not planning to do any timed laps, but with the track already marked out, it seemed a pity not to. It ran rather well all things considered - I think I might be in for a chance at the title of fastest 6-wheeler!

I've run this weekend  for the second time. Much better  sunny weather with 15°C ( -4°C a week before with freezing finger ). It's actually holiday for children, and some are with me during the session.

Firstly with the Peugeot 206 WRC TA03FS , that great and i improve my drive around this tight track ( first round isn't easy )  Maybe i can improve my chassis to this track or chosse another model ( as  Mini Copper on M-01 )

After, i tried  as @TurnipJF to run my KongHead on the track with 4WS to make close round. But too much grip and i roll over twice. I've no lap counter for this moment on my KH. Can be interested to compare 6wheelers !

That the only pict i take ! (but a "biker" cross ) and into shadows you can see my supporters ;-)

Only 3 days left for Round 8!

Just a reminder that the round ends at midnight GMT on Sunday the 28th of February. Have you all been thinking about track layouts for Round 9?

That fun for him to try with his Neo Fighter and after that to discover how is different with road chassis as TA03FS ;-)

Lovely day here, children preoccupied, so time for some racing

all this MF01X Escort talk encouraged me to get my own MF01X out

9C57EA7F-7CD3-4D81-BBB4-3705B983FFBD.jpg

conditions have changed so much, that grip rolling was the major issue. Good giggle, though the suspension felt a little stiff, a lot of bobbling about. Probably didn’t help with the grip rolling either.

next up I got the FF03 out. That was all a bit weird. Like driving a reverse rwd, lots of over rotation with power. Once I was more tender with the throttle the laps started to come.

Boyed by the success with these two, out came the TB05. That was awesome, got a nice rhythm going. So much so I hit the lower lap limit on the Lap Monitor :D have to review the timing later to see what it does. Is it logging a limited lap time but not adjusting the actual time, or is it time shifting?

after adjusting that I tried again, and I could get under the limit, but ended up trying too hard and kept collecting the lap monitor unit.

I wonder how much weight I’d need in something to mount the lap monitor so that it didn’t move on contact? A housing with sloped edges to divert the cars away? Or just drive better!

Did a handful of runs this afternoon. TB05 settled in nicely. TA07 suffering a lack of steering. Not understeer, just a lack of lock really. I thought I'd read that the TA07 had a better steering angle, so perhaps I need to revisit that knowledge.

At the suggestion of @Charles M, I have been playing around with Google Forms as an alternative way of collecting results.

If anyone wants to give it a try, here is the link:

https://forms.gle/1xzhEZAPsWDeez6D8

If it works and is to peoples' liking, we can use this for Round 9 onwards. However in case there are any issues, please continue to submit your results via email too, at least for Round 8. The address is tcpostalracing@gmail.com.

Liking that Google Forms method of submission very much, I did both to be sure.

Anyhow I only got a chance to do my 1 and only run today and the surface was a little rough for my MF01X Escort MKII.

For Round 9 I'll try somewhere a little smoother, and hopefully get a few runs in.

Great fun though :D

Actually got out this morning!! After some horrible practice runs on Thursday, this was a lot more promising. 😊

First up, I attempted to see if the M05 had anything left in her... She DIDN'T! 😖  The Tyres are SO bad, I couldn't even break out of sub 8 minute Laps!!! 😳😭😭

The TT-02S RRRR SM did MUCH better, with all the Suspension Mods and great Tyres on Alumininium Wheels! 😁

Sending you the results now...

My FF-03R is still waiting for an ODD Bearing (840)!!! For the Gearbox. Maybe next run....

Best of Luck Ladies and Gentlemen!!! 🏆💯
