Racing by post - Round 44 track is up. We're going back to Vålerbanen!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've just submit the test for the Google Form. We can make modification. That great. But at the end, maybe you need to add some format about weight and Best Lap , for example, in europe, we use Kg and  comma for decimal time.

It's good, if it's easier for you to get results.

Well done to all who entered, especially our fastest entrant @jupitertwo who has the honour of choosing our next track layout. Everyone is welcome to put forward suggestions for Round 9, so please give some thought to what you might like the Round 9 layout to be, and post your ideas!

In other news, the Google Form seems to work very nicely, so for Round 9, let's use that to submit results, shall we? The form can be found at https://forms.gle/1xzhEZAPsWDeez6D8.

😲13th place!!!😖

I'm OUT OF practice - and you Blokes got a LOT better!!! 🏆💯 Congrats on a great run!

I'll have to revisit the Chassis... But I believe it's gotten too heavy (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!)😜  .... But I am out of practice.

@jupitertwo's FF-03 gives me hope that my FF-03R, when ready, should be the best in my fleet - so far. I'm even going to try a shorty Lipo... So I can play with the CoG. 😉

@TurnipJF I looked at the Google Form... Looks like a fantastic idea!!💡 Even an Old Fart like me can figure it out.

While practice is no doubt part of it, I think we are also up against some extremely stiff competition. I practiced until my fingers hurt and my cars had left a track-shaped outline of rubber on the tarmac, and TBH I thought my run of 55 laps was a potential winner, until both @ryback and @jupitertwo came along and blew me out of the water!

I consider myself a reasonably competent club level racer, but I suspect that they both would be quite comfortable taking part at national level. Well done both of you!

(And well done to everyone who managed to get an entry in during these trying times!)

Unfortunately life, work and weather stopped me running this month. I must do better in future.

I think you'll find the FF03R will go very well. Your car setup experience will enable you to dial it in very nicely no doubt. I found my FF03 on the surface I had just wanted to rotate all the time. It made it very difficult to not add extra hairpins to each lap! However I could feel that getting that under control will allow for some slick manouevering on the tight corners.

Hehe, driving round my own circuit on a secluded driveway with no-one watching is quite different to doing it with other cars and people around! I have to say the tyre really helped, once warmed up the TB05 was on rails. I'd reduced the pinion size to get some more pep, I must have found the sweet spot for that track and for my throttle finger. The FF03 for example was far too twitchy on the throttle, even with similar tyres on.

I think the lap monitor does help so much. Not having to keep manual count allows focus on what you're doing. The call out of the lap time helps with investigating different lines or squeezes of the throttle. The latter it really showed to me, that going faster most of the time didn't really help. Tight lines and composure seemed to win out (even if it was less exciting!).

Thanks ^_^ Great to see 15 entrants, looking forward to some suggestions for the next track. Perhaps after the recent touring car wins, we need something that suits buggies more? Maybe putting a small jump in there is too much? :D

Sound interesting, but might be a bit tricky to standardise everyone's animals in order for the contest to be fair. Last thing we want are cries of "They only beat me because their sharks had a lower tooth count than mine!"

If yours is anything to go on, I'm really looking forward to getting mine running!! 😁😎

Chassis for Chassis, the only significant difference between the FF-03 and 03R - yours has a Ball Diff and mine has a Sealed Gear Diff. I can't see any other difference that would make a significant difference.

BTW.... I really recommend that if you can, convert yours to a Gear Diff. From what several others have told me, grip in corners is significantly improved. Plus they're maintenance free! You only need to take them apart if you feel like changing the weight of the Oil.

I don't know about the others... but @TurnipJF and I are older Club Racers - HE has the edge on me, because my experience was in Buggies.  I think we both agree that you and @ryback would do well on a proper Track - in a Crowd!! 👍👍

Like anything else, it just takes getting used to. 😉

Is that just a replacement of the ball diff with a 54471, and upgrading to a 54398?

I added a one way to my XV01, sounds like the gear diff from there has a potential new home :)

Great to see our names in the ranking and SonOfMaelstrom2 (who is seven) was really chuffed that he was 24th! Also good to see that our lap counts were not completely rubbish, so we are all motivated to get more practice in and hopefully improve in the next round. Also want to get more cars drivable so we can try them out - TA04 and TA05, FF01, maybe M05, even the TL01 after I've installed all the new hop ups from Plaza Japan and I  would also love to have a go with my DF03 MS, which has never been run yet!

I have installed a lap counter on my mobile that we want to try out - I just hope we can find the time between work, homeschooling and the rest of life in general!

EXACTLY!! Everything else should be a direct fit... Although I've heard that the 54398 Gearbox Case is a tighter fit than the standard one, but still fits.

I'm getting Sealed Gear Diffs for my TT02, as everything else I've tried, hasn't worked well.

And as BONKERS as it may sound - 75K to 100K Gear Diff Oil works best on FF-03! If you do the same to your XV01, Rear Diff likes thinner... 20K to 30K.

Which ones are you getting? The Tamiya "sealed" gear diffs as supplied with the TT-02RR, although intended to be filled with oil, lack an O-ring seal on the outdrives and are thus prone to leaking all but the thickest oil. Have you found some better aftermarket options, or a way of improving the Tamiya ones? Or are you just planning on using really thick oil or living with a bit of seepage?

The Plan is.... Smearing a small amount of RTV Silicone on the Drive Cups - CAREFULLY fitting them, and using about a 100-150K Lube.

It MAY WORK - or at least slow down the leakage! 😜

Track suggestion for Round 9:

2021-03-02_06-25-49

We start on the main straight (A) then head into a right-hander which takes us through the sand dunes (B), where we need to avoid being hit by "Tusken Raiders" with Nerf guns. If a dart hits your car, you don't count that lap. A sharp left followed by a sweeping right leads to a tabletop jump (C) made more challenging by a ring of fire for the cars to jump through. An S-bend takes us to another jump, this time over a crocodile (D). A gentle right-hander takes us to a narrow bridge (E) over a pond infested with sharks (lasers optional). Another right turn and we are back on the main straight!

I think I'm going to have to make a jump with a ring of fire when I get home and send the Ultimate Racing Lunchbox™ through it.

I shall video this too, either for cheap laughs or for a reminder why I shouldn't be so stupid in future...
