Got a bit of running time in during my lunch break. The concrete behind the hospital where I work was a bit slippery and dusty leading to some spectacular slides if I accelerated too hard. I also got some amused looks and comments from a few of the nurses coming out for a cigarette break. Nice to get out on my lunch break through, that doesn't happen very often - come to think of it, lunch breaks don't happen that often either 😜.

After one and a half rounds the TBLE02 went dead, seemingly due to overheating. It was quite hot in the direct sunshine but I hadn't expected that to happen with a Carson Cup Machine, standard gearing and with a standard NiMh pack. The motor was extremely hot though and I  then remembered that the same thing had happened to my son's DT-02 last week on the local track when the motor was in there. I had then swapped it to my TT-02 to replace the Torque Tuned (the Cup  Machine is the motor for the Stock class I enter in  the German Tamiya Euro Cup), not thinking anything was amiss. So now I'm thinking the motor maybe has had it. I'll give it another go in cooler weather and see what happens.

I am in Phoenix, AZ, with a nice 45deg forecast all week long. I will gear the Porsche a bit shorter than usual in hopes of avoiding burning anything! Giving it a go this Thursday :)

Had a go at it (well 4 rounds actually) in the morning cool (37deg 😅). Car handles wonderful in RWD on this tight track but the driver needs to get more consistent! Excuse the beat up body!

Darn it, got a Dilwe 21T brushed motor (I know, big stuff) to swap with my Torque Tuned, since it gets too hot and I wanted a little more oomph. Well, this one doesn't last even 7 minutes before becoming a fireball and triggering the ESC's overheating protection mode. Guess the weather is too hot for brushed motors. Time to plan the brushless upgrade!

It seems that quite a few of us are having overheating issues lately. Summer weather sure play a big role in the matter, but personally I find that it's a lot about our Postal racing tracks: due to all the obvious limitations, they always end ub being tight and tecnhical, often with a lot of braking and on-and-off full throttle, which sure takes a toll on the electronics (and gears, and tires, but hey that's racing ). I could barely get close to my RC10 after a full 5-minute run without getting my fingers burned. I'm curious to see how it will do this weekend, having geared down from the original 15t to a 11t pinion. The brushless system on my Manta Ray is having way less of a hard time temperature wise, since it's relatively "underpowered" with an NiMh struggling to feed the power hungry 13.5T. I wonder how much higher temps I would get with a 2s or 3s Lipo.

Also, how heavy a car is sure plays a big role as well: my Hornet, being a featherweight, has no overheating issues ever despite running a 15T brushed motor. The RC10 is pretty heavy, and picking it up after a full run is like shoving my hands in burning ambers.

My TT02 gets hot too. I’m only running NiMH / Torque Tuned / stock gearing, but a couple of flat out 5 min runs gets the motor north of 80 deg. I don’t know what a sensible temp would be but that felt a bit too much, so I run a fan now - it topped out at c. 45 deg today. ESC was the same (no fan).

Got my first two round 12 runs in today, second run was one lap less than first again - just like last month! Not sure if that’s due to concentration, or some sort of car factors - tyre temp, edge being taken off the NiMH charge etc?

I run a sport tuned in the TT02, on 2S and I have always had a fan on the motor. The ESC is a 1060. I can put my fingers on the motor after a 5min run. I think my lack of driving skills prevents me from going over half throttle on such a tight postal course! I quickly found that I was making better times when trying to drive slow and clean rather than mash the throttle between cones. A better driver than me might overheat electronics a lot more.

I find the tighter, more technical tracks bring on higher motor and ESC temperatures due to more frequent hard acceleration and braking. I can typically run my TT for a full heat on a normal track without issue, but I had to drop a tooth on my pinion to stop it thermalling on these short courses.

I do exactly the same, I think I push more and end up going slower 🤣

Off topic a little bit, I've decided to keep my tt-01e after some deliberation so I found some more upgrades in stock but just one I'm not quite sure about which to get atm as I don't want to go mad on it all at once and found the adjustable upper arms cheap so had to have them so I can tinker🤣🤣 so Which would be better, a yeah racing front universal that runs with the stock outdrive or a new toe in rear hub? Doing this stuff, general driving tarmac and maybe some for fun carpet racing area is @14x7.5m so no high speed at all. Have my Xv-01 setup for the tarmac /carpet so if things ever open up enough that would be my principal first choice racer and I emphasise it's just a fun racing club.

I would definitely vote for the toe in rear hubs. They make a very significant difference to the car's straight line stability.

+1 on the toe-in hubs.

Still 10 days to go but I submitted my results early... in case our new baby comes sooner than anticipated! I am planning on getting more track time this week. So far I have seen a steady increase in the number of laps so I suppose my driving is getting less and less chaotic.

A bit of yesterday’s footage of some beach laps, I only realized (because of having to much fun!!) that I wasn’t doing the course probably 🙄. Felt like a bit of a banana and the batteries we’re almost done and cut off before I could finish a final correct session.
I might be able to squeeze in another attempt today with a bit of luck 😉

Looks like a lot of fun and quite fast too! That top right marker though is a left turn, not a right turn ;)

Yeah I was to busy roosting and enjoying being out totally forgot about that turn 😂. In truth I even lost count of of the laps anyway. But will hopefully have a more accurate attempt today. After all it’s all for the fun of it really 👍🏻

I can't remember if I posted my times yet, I think I did but I'm not certain. I might need to do some more racing on the weekend with the TT02B. The Comical Hornet is sidelined waiting for the parts to replace what I broke.

Feel free to post them again if you are uncertain. It is easy enough for me to delete duplicates.

Had another few attempts this morning and things didn’t go well at first! In particular a fly decided to land on my hands 😡 while I was trying to focus. Just drove me nuts and caused me to bump a track marker off every time, ruining my race.

Around 8:00 the sun was getting just too strong and I was getting ready to call it a day but I tried one more time and amazingly got a clean 5min, beating my last result by one lap.

This postal racing is a lot of fun!

Just submitted my results, since I won't have time to run this weekend. Still, I surprisingly had plenty of time to practice in the last few days, so I definitely had my share of fun on this course number 12 which I did enjoy. Good luck everybody for the final dash!🏁

Well I only got 1 session at it with just the xv-01, tt-01e is awaiting receiver and servo, upgrades etc as I moved electronics to my cc-01 as it's been sat doing nothing for a while. Think i've found an ideal spot to do it until the schools close for the summer and I can use the lovely new car park round the corner, just going to have to get someone to brush it clear for me :D

I've had my fist ever go. No practice just had time to mark out the garden, set the laptracks on motion mode and test it, then drive. Not making excuses :-) but the grass was a bit to long for it really.

A nice varied field, and a familiar name at the top of the list. Well done @ryback for setting the best lap count, and also to everyone else who gave it a go!

Wow, I got the most laps on grass! I had another 3 sessions on Sunday with the TT02B, and each time I got the same number of laps - 38. I seem to have reached a plateau of acheivement for that car / surface / skill (or lack thereof) combination.
