Racing by post - Round 44 track is up. We're going back to Vålerbanen!

Yes they do, I gave it some test runs trying them out & found leaving it 2nd worked best. 1st was to slow, 3rd didn’t like pulling out the tight corners. It would be even more fun with a trailer on.

I would see a trailer with all your other postal racing cars on it 🤓

I had the first trip to round 26 on the way home from work. The kindergarden started up on August 1st, so no more Racing by post there at a time on the day that suits my plan. I had not prepared at all, so no lipos were charged. Then the trusty Hopper had to do, since the Nihm-packs were charged. I drove on an area where I now only drive during winter. There is too much vegetation coming up now/the nature is taking it back, so no place to make a personal best, but it's a start and a training. The lapcount can only get better, but we can say that two years ago I would have been satisfied if I made so many laps with that car on that surface, so some progress has been madeB)

I was wondering which cars to run this round, then I received this in the fortune cookie that came with my takeout:

Well that's decided then!

Drink a whole 2 litre bottle of Fanta as well just before the timer starts for extra good luck 👍🏻

Good idea! I shall also be donning my orange hi-vis jacket, both for good luck, and because it is probably a sensible precaution when running at night in an area where there is a chance that full-size cars could potentially gain access.

Hope everyone else is also taking whatever precautions they need to in order to keep safe!

I took myself the liberty to make a detour for some postal on the way to work in the lovely morning sun. I now see that I made a decent lapcount with the Grasshornet the other day. Even though the Tomahawk is both faster and more powerful it's tricky to find grip on such a loose surface. It's making a better lapcount, but only marginally. For next week it's back to the Golf again. I think this track will be perfect for it. It's a fun and lovely track bzw.

Finally had an opportunity to set up the course in a nearby parking lot, chance of rain today but none fell while I was driving, and the track* was a lot of fun! The Blaster was the only contender, although the Brat came along for moral support (and had a little bash session of its own afterwards).

I've been making a lot of modifications to the Blaster recently, and to my surprise and relief, it actually worked perfectly for two whole battery packs of racing. The dogbones stayed in the whole time! And somehow the bald rear tires are still hanging on, too.

*So, this time the driver excuses are because of poor track management. Had a few hiccups with the lap timer app, but the big problem is that I didn't double check the course map before laying the chalk. So instead of going around the outside of marker 2 and the inside of marker 3, I ended up doing a U turn around marker 1, between 1 and 2, then back out between 2-3 and around the outside of 3.

It made for a very tight sequence of turns, and really slowed me down, but at least I've got something to record for this round. I'm hoping to get a chance at redemption later this month, but it's been fun so far! It's been awhile since I've done laps on a racetrack, and it was nice to be able to still get into a good flow fairly quickly, even if I was driving the wrong track

On Tuesday I saw that a commuter parking lot directly at E18 had got a fresh coat of tarmac. Had the first three stints there yesterday. This is in the middle of a construction site for a new bridge at the E18 and a big industrial area, so loads of dust, but still better grip than on worn/rougher tarmac. I gotta say it's pretty adictive to chase the racing line, the best breaking points and give throttle gradually from the apex. Like Tamiyastef foresaw; I am getting more and more in love with the M-05. It's such a joy to see that you suddenly are able to do consistent laptimes :D.

On the way home from work now I've had such a joyful experience. I used my lucky battery and pulled three stints and all were improving of my personal best. This little guy is really groving on me now :D.

Did a few more stints today, made sure to follow the correct course line around the first few markers since I did it wrong last time

No excuses other than bad driving, however still managed to improve slightly over all the previous tries, and now at least I have something recorded for the correct track.

Don't think I'll have the chance for more attempts this week before the deadline, but this has been a fun one @Grastens!

Looking forward to this. Will be my first circuit with a loop!

Oops, totally forgot about track 21, that also had a loop.

With the Porsche & Escort ready for battle after both DNF on their last night stage outing they thankfully performed flawlessly this time 😁

At an industrial area I usually go in the day was definitely dark and not so flood lit as the Uni car park I used before. So the reject shop glow bracelets were deployed to mark the circuit, certainly a strange feeling and I’m not ashamed to say I was a bit nervous at the first pull of the trigger sending the Porsche off into the dark. Fortunately it only took a few conservative practice laps to get into a nice comfortable rhythm and just enjoy, and enjoy I did.

Had another go today on tarmac, very windy but dry and warm.

New contender next to the M05 is a TA03F in Rally form.

20220828_154620.jpg20220828_154633.jpg

Drove the TA03F yesterday on a more rally underground (a load of fun) but wasn't overwhelmed with the performance of the ESC. Today it was a real problem. No Brakes, only reverse and a delay between switching from reverse to forward + the car really takes its time to gain speed. So much I gave up before the 5 minutes timer went of...

I got some pictures from the manual of the ESC here on the forum (thanks again M 800STD) just need some time to get the settings to my liking.

Got my results in.

This looks like so much fun! Especially if you happened to be blasting some Bee Gees during the runs 😉 very much disco revival! And the idea of using glow bracelets for markers is just perfect 💡

Between the rainy weather, my back pain and my family visiting, it didn't look like I was gonna get a go at this round at all.

...but there was a perfect window yesterday, so I went for it. For the first time I had public too, up to 5 people 😅 it didn't help me concentrating, but was a lot of fun for sure.

The usual racers took up to the challenge, and this time the Hornet also joined the race. It performed ok on tarmac, but it took quite a toll on its rear tires. A tumble here and there as well as the usual erratic behavior made its one and only attempt quite spectacular to watch!

The Terra Scorcher, as usual, was the most consistent, but the Manta Ray was right behind. Its last run would have matched the TS result for sure, hadn't it been for the battery that gave up in the last 30 seconds.

All in all, good fun as usual. Time to upload the results now.

Another great track, really enjoyable. Sadly really struggled to get any time to race this month - but set up on the short hard and very dry grass of a holiday garden (can’t remember when it last rained).

First out was the comical hotshot. This was it’s usual fun self. Lots of rolls coming to the end of the start/finish straight. Eventually my skill caught up with my trigger finger and I started improving lap counts and lap times until it plateaued out. Shorty after battery ran out so it seem like karma so further attempts were called off.

Next day sent the brat out. Pretty quickly stopped improving so tried an experiment. I pretty much always run stock. Realised I had a 19 turn in the little travel kit I’ve set up so a quick check online and tried out the tamiya “speed” set up for an ORV. Seemed to be 1-2 laps/about 0.5s per lap slower - presumably this is due to (in probability order): 1. My driving skills, 2. Carrying too much speed into turns 8 & 1 = wide radius and 3. Given short circuit does a larger pinion sacrifice acceleration for top speed? Think I’ll revert to stock pinion in future.

Then I tried out the recently stickered up Madbull. Really great fun. Love the sound those massive tyres make hurtling across the ground. Just not able to get around turn 4 (fence to close) so about half the time had to reverse away. It was pretty hard to keep anyway near the track so only 2 cones left standing at the end of 5 minutes!

Here’s the impromptu podium (balanced on top of a seaweed pressing set up).

And the pit area.

The TA03 is belt drive isn’t it? I quite fancy a belt drive but it’s the small stones and road debris that I am concerned about where I generally run.

Thanks mate, the MK1 is a favourite classic car of mine as I had one when I was 19 😁. Some tail lights would help for the night stage though.

& yes a small pinion for acceleration, big pinion for top end 👍🏻

Thanks to everyone who entered!

I'm running a teapot hillclimb event at a steampunk festival today, so will probably not get the results collated and posted until tomorrow, but fear not! Posted they will be!
