Racing by post - Round 45 takes us to Anderstorp!

Denys Cherepinskyi is a dear friend of mine who, due to circumstances beyond his control, is fighting for his life in Ukraine :( There is little I can do for him, but should the unthinkable happen, at least there will be this little corner of the Internet where his name lives on...

I also know he found RC cars interesting - I recall him asking questions about mine whenever I brought them in to bash around on break - so this is a bit of a tribute to him. Here's hoping we see him again!

Anyway, I had no name for this circuit design, so the name also added some class, like Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Apologies for the sombre tone of the explanation! I still have a feeling to be optimistic somehow.

Wow.

Here's to you, Denys. I wish we could do something more to help. The courage and passion we see every day from your compatriots is awe inspiring and like nothing I remember seeing before.

Yes, here's to Denys. What a great track and a great tribute @Grastens.

I say not every month but am going to really try and get out there on the track this month.

Second try today. The track is so much fun. It's so cool when you just extend the drift from marker 5, around 6 and all the way to marker 1.

The frost is completely gone and the ground is soaked. I have painted the marker positions on two different spots. This way I do not run on the same place every time. The two spots are unequally exposed for sunlight, but the gravel is finer where I was today. I hope the sun will dry the ground up the next couple of days. It takes only one run to make it fully loose and muddy around marker 6.

First try for me. The first three turns are an absolutely murderous, way too close for my Terra Scorcher setup. This time I've got new tyres from Amazon, a cheap preglued set, I wonder if they are actually better compared to Tamiya's default square spikes. I should also take a look at the front shocks, I've seen the front suspension all oily, I suspect they are leaking.

Got few turns today, that cool. The crossover element was pretty hard to negociate with my DT-02, 'cause of the rough terrain. Lots of bumps and rocks, causing some rear lost traction. But that was fun !

Thanks for the track B) Can't wait to drive another car on this one.

Good to back out with a few cars today 😃

Definitely more M Chassis friendly than their bigger cousins. It was the first Postal trip out for the MK1 Escort TT02 and only the second time I’ve run it. A steering mod is probably on the cards for it, as the the first few practice laps needed 3 point turns to get round the the 2nd & 3rd markers 🤣😂. Once I’d worked out the wider lines needed things started to flow a little better. All good fun and just a joy to see the cars turning their wheels in the sunshine as we’ve had a phenomenal amount of rain the last couple of weeks.

Another crack at this great little circuit would be grand if possible before times up 😃

Looks fun @Re-Bugged! I hope you haven’t been impacted by the floods? Are you in QLD?

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Sanctuary Cove for a few days of work.

Had my first go at this little beauty of a track. The overlap is a first for me and it just makes this track very enjoyable IMO. Thank you for that.

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Sanctuary Cove for a few days of work.

I’m Central Queensland, 500km’s North of Brisbane. Although we’ve copped the rain with a bit localised flooding it receded quickly with no adverse affects. Parts of Brisbane was bad though, (800mm’s in 24 hours) my niece had just moved into the downstairs of a friends 2 storey house to start studying to be a Paramedic. When the water started rising they moved her stuff upstairs, unfortunately by the next day the water was up to the roof!!

The worst part about it she said was that it came so quickly and quietly.

She lost most of her belongings but started a GoFundMe and has received in excess of $12000 from donations which is nice to help get her back on her feet.

The neighbour sent his drone up before the water reached its peak..

This Petrol Station only opened 4 months ago opposite them…

The Army are there now helping with the massive clean up. One of the main problems is a lot of the food and other supply distribution centres have been flooded, so stocks are very limited everywhere at the moment. Aldi and a few other major stores had to close for a few days in our town as the shelves where empty. Things are getting better now though.

It’s just been unbelievable. I’ve a few friends up there and two have been awfully affected. Sydney too with my old neighbour having two foot of water in his ground floor. Sorry to hear about your neice, I hope she gets everything back to normal soon.

Sorry to hear about the situation and also about your niece @Re-Bugged, I hope things will keep on getting better. I know how awful and disorienting it can be, dealing with a major flood like that (my hometown on the other side of the pond has always been prone to these issues). It sure is no fun. But good for her with the crowd funding!

I'm happy to declare I'm back in the game aftee what felt like too long😀

Today, after catching up with the thread, I decided to venture out regardless of the cold and find a suitable spot to set up the course (my usual one is still out of reach).

The Home Depot parking lot proved to be up to the task, and I managed to have a good time despite the unavoidable cracks in my fingers due to the chill (damm, where did I put those light gloves that fit the transmitter so well?? I wish I knew).

Man, I felt quite rusty after so long Lol and the new track is fun and quite technical. My results were probably not that good, but I hope to give it one more try maybe next weekend and improve. Amyway it was fun which is all that matters! 😁

The featured cars this time -like most times- were the Manta Ray and the Terra Scorcher. I can't wait to run the Lancia Delta on a postal racing course, but I want to finish all the few details I have left and the cockpit before I bring her out.

Happy racers, especially the Terra Scorcher which hasn't seen any action in the over 3 months20220313-203237.jpg

All part of living in the Tropics @Ferruz, these things come and go mate.

Great to see you out, especially the near toasted front tyres on the TS 🤣

@Ferruz Are those budget tires from JCRacing? If so, how do you rate them? How many runs on the TS to get them to this level of baldness?

Good question Tamiyastef. They are indeed budget wheels/tires I got on fleabay, but I don't remember the brand. I don't think it matters though, pretty sure they are overall the same item that gets rebranded depending on the site/retailer. The ones on the TS came with some bonus alloy hexes which was nice.

I would say they are perfect for the job: I just couldn't afford wasting any more "good" tires on postal racing attempts, so getting these allowed me to save the expensive spiked ones and keep my cars on the tarmac, to try for more competitive lap counts.

It's worth noting that the set on the TS and the one on the Manta Ray are different in hardness: the tires on the TS are softer and grippier and yield a surprising performance, but they wear out fast: it only took two Rounds to get the front ones this bald, but both Rounds were won 1st place so I think it was worth it 😅👍 but just like on real cars, successful sharp cornering will sure take a toll on the tires, so by now they already don't have much life left in them.

On the other hand, the set on the Manta Ray is made of a slightly harder compound. Despite the buggy being much more powerful than the TS, the front tires didn't suffer the same carnage and most of the tread is still there. I suspect a lot has to do with the cars' different set up and steering angle, but the different softness of the compound does probably play a role as well.

Boy are turns 1, 2 and 3 tough. I know the racing line should be to straighten them out to one generous left-hander, but I'm currently way too fast into turn 1 to make that work.

5 into 6 is nice and drifty with this car on old tyres.

I take it I'm not alone in being "generous" with the track limits on the outside of the circuit.

I regularly discover new continents trying to round cone 3 and trying to get around the loop (cone 6).  The DT-03 does not want to turn that tightly without locking up the rear wheels to induce a near-spin. If I add a stiffer spring to the rear, then it gets too tail happy, especially on acceleration.

I go even lower before rounding cone 1 but stay closer to cone 3 and 6. That's with a M-05, not DT-03. :-)

I'm also way too fast and tight around cone 1. It's so easy to get carried away after spinning around cone 6 and picking up speed on the way to cone 1. I go way too wide around cone 2 and 3, so there lies probably my largest potential for improvement ATM.

The key as I see it is hitting the super late apex at 1 per @SlideWRX's red line. The trouble with where I laid my track out is the start/finish runs alongside patio slabs. Dipping onto it is great for sliding the Madcap into turn 1, but it's horribly inconsistent. I'm at least reasonably able to cut and hit the power OK to stay tight at 3 and make the chicane less relevant.

I had a lot less joy out of my silver can Top Force Evo. I simply can't get it to generate enough turn-in, where the Madcap is benefitting both from the weight transfer under braking and power sliding torque under acceleration. Inconsistent but faster.

Probably not running this circuit again once my wife sees the new lawn "stripes" :)

Had a chance to have a good go at it today ,it's tight! I should have made the effort to put smaller tyres on my m05 and the tarmac wasn't that grippy either but I managed two extra laps by the end so at least I was improving. Sunny day wednesday would be nice if someone can order it please

Oh man, this is one of the big reasons I rarely get the chance to join in... the only time I can make a track on my lawn is when there's a foot of snow on top of it!
