Racing by post - Round 44 track is up. We're going back to Vålerbanen!

Go @Grastens 👍🏻 very impressive.

I think @Ferruz will be hot on your heels when the Optima Mid is race ready. I need a bit more practice to catch his TS though 😁

Thank you, everybody! I could not have expected such a result - although I am quite fortunate to have access to a vacant parking lot where I can run on-road racers.

That being said, the Super Striker equalling the GT-R on laps was quite shocking. It was almost 3/4 laps' difference, though; the Striker just crossed the line to start number 35 at 5 minutes, whereas the GT-R was well on the way to Lap 36 before the timer went.

Still, I intend to enjoy this one, even though I know it is all for fun ^_^ I will get to work on a new layout!

And now, presenting:

1p96H3S.jpg

Special Stage Route Point 5 (or Special Stage Route 0.5 :P), loosely styled after Special Stage Route 5 of Gran Turismo:

8FrGSqW.gif

The initial objective was to design a simpler, faster circuit for the Racing by Post series, but with the combination of corner markers 2 through 4 and the loop at marker 8, it may yet prove a technical challenge.

Pending approval from @TurnipJF, we have the next round!

And for those Gran Turismo fans out there, we have a soundtrack ;):

(bonus lap if you run this circuit at night :P)

 Perhaps my favorite track of all time! Technically I should be driving an R33 GTR this round, in NISMO 400R trim of course! I'd love to make an RC version of that one day.

Bonus bonus points for running at night on wet tarmac?

Holy schmokes @Grastens, your lap count is impressive!Congrats 😃👍🏁🏁

And well done everybody, good to see a full grid and some new names on it!

I think my Terra Scorcher got slightly... scorched by Grastens' Super Striker  Arnold Applewhite promptly demanded a new set of front tires for the future rounds... 😅

Meanwhile, the old ones won't suffer as much since this course runs counterclockwise, which is a nice change! I really like it btw 👍, looking forwar to it.

@Re-Bugged the Optima Mid will definitely race (at least by post)! But it will take a while, I'm barely in the process of selecting the electronics, which I hope to order one of these days! But I can't wait to jump on the build 😜

Hummm, that got me thinking. You could use those Glow Sticks kids use for bracelets at parties & Shows for markers.
‘Neon Laps’ 🤔

Yeah I’m thinking so once I realised I had a couple of vehicles with lights 💡 The ones that don’t I might have to gaffer tape a torch to the roof.

An impromptu attempt this evening as a puppy we are minding at the moment along with our own dog needed a walk. There is a freshly laid so far unused car park for a Uni extension where Mrs RB likes to exercise the dogs while I could play 😁

1st up was the MK1 Escort. The car park was a bit more flood lit than I thought it would be, but hey hoe, happy to forgo the bonus lap for a spin.

C5F300CF-971F-41CD-BA19-86FCE6FFA48C.md.

Last time I took this one out it struggled on tight corners so I have trimmed a bit of the chassis to allow the steering linkage to move a bit more. It now has a much better turning circle. All was going well with about a dozen practice laps, but 3 laps in to the timed session, the car had no response to Tx commands. Hummmm. (My GT40 did the same thing recently.) The TBLE 04 was flashing red as if the overheat protection cut in. Turn off, turn on again a few minutes later, works briefly than stops again. So unfortunately was retired at this point.

Next up was the Porsche..

36BFA7C9-45A7-402F-A4CD-6517315ECE02.md.

This also was going great guns, until I lost steering. A later plug in of a spare Servo that works fine suggests that the installed NuPower Servo has given up the ghost. Now 2 cars down 🙄

So this left me with 1 vehicle left to have a crack. As this is a larger size circuit it was a perfect opportunity to stretch my Knight Haulers legs, and admire all the pretty lights 😁 and just because.

DF0C893F-406E-4E77-8AA4-10A12572C5F3.md.

What joy to use this one outside the confines of the house for a change. Obviously not setting any land speed records nonetheless it was a surprising result on the lap count. 2nd gear seemed to be the sweet spot to chug around while grinning ear to ear with delight after the 2 previous set backs.

Still an enjoyable outing and will have to have another attempt at this circuit.

Tried this one with the Aqroshot on grass. The track was more uphill than it may seem in the picture.

20220803_200615.jpg It ran nice during practice but during the timed round it slowed down significantly, so much I had to stop to find out what was wrong with the car.

Not a long search :D

20220803_210316.jpg Left and right 20220803_210320.jpg

And also some in the middle

Second attempt wasn't a DNF again but the car looked the same and was definitly slower towards the end. Had a great time anyhow :)

The night challenge is going to be interesting. I wonder which will be better - running a heavier, less aerodynamic scale shell with built in lights that might yield better times due to the visibility advantage, or sacrificing visibility for lightness and aero by using a race shell with no lights? I'll have to try both approaches and see! (Or not see...😁)

Had another pig out on some laps today while I had the chance and a just about fully charged battery left over from Friday night..

ECD33003-2440-4C95-AB31-4FF369886C58.md.

The road bias Terra Scorcher was first off the line..

274B1F27-0BAE-4D5F-825D-47C45F7299B3.md.

Such a fun great handling buggy, it grows on me more every time I take it out. Only one little hiccup is the bottom eyelet of the left hand damper pops off it’s shaft occasionally. I’m thinking the thread may be a little stripped in the plastic.

Next up was the M05 2CV. I can’t help but think it would be better at the medium 225mm wheelbase rather than the 239mm needed for this body. I’ve considered picking up a Mazda MX5 to see. It just doesn’t quite turn as sharp as I think it should, the fact it’s on stock kit tyres doesn’t help much either.

The M08 Mini was the 3rd one out to compete. Man, I seriously just love this thing. Always a real pleasure, so compliant and directional as if it’s on rails. I’ve backed off the timing on its new brushless motor to half what was set at from the factory (about 12degrees now) and it’s feels great, much more manageable than the previous setting. Nice tight lines around the markers where very satisfying to achieve.

The TT02R GT40 was unfortunately losing signal or something from the Tx again? Not sure what’s going on there as an earlier bench test wiggling wires etc didn’t show anything. Odd thing was the I noticed the 3PV Tx Screen was blank after retrieving the GT, maybe the fault is there, as the other cars where on my Flysky GT5 Tx 🤔 I’ve got a spare Rx for the GT5 so I might swap it out and see when time permits.

So last one for the day for entertainment value more than anything was the Kyosho Madvan. My word does it live up to its name 😂  It felt enormous to start with after the Mini, but once I was getting used to the vastly different characteristics it was hugely enjoyable and quite surprising what this bulk of a thing was capable of. I’m fairly sure Racing by Post wasn’t in Kyosho’s design brief for this one.

With the session complete that just left getting the battery down to storage charge again..

(Apologies for all the additional entries for sorting at the end of this one Mr @TurnipJF 😉)

Cheers bud 👍🏻 I was itching to take it out when RbP was at Brands Hatch as I used to go there to watch Truck racing as a kid. This circuit suited perfectly, also felt good to Christen it properly from shelfer status 😁

Don't these trucks have 3 gears? Did you take to out of first? 😅 That must have been something.

@Re-Bugged I believe I just gave you your well deserved +📳7000 like 😅👍 congrats Bud!!

No Racing by Post for me today... not even a rain-bonus lap could have gotten the cars out in these conditions ☹

Yes they do, I gave it some test runs trying them out & found leaving it 2nd worked best. 1st was to slow, 3rd didn’t like pulling out the tight corners. It would be even more fun with a trailer on.
