Racing by post - Round 39 track is up, taking us to Arctic Cirkle Raceway in Norway!

Looking forward to giving this a crack after a bit of a break over the winter. Few new cars to run over it too.

The last couple days have managed to be sunny & dry, so I have been able to run the course.  That 4-1-2 corner set is vicious! I effectively have a 'ghost' cone about a meter out past cone/corner 1, as I accelerate towards cone 1 and past it and get enough momentum to do a J-turn, or hand brake turn and get back going the other way.  I have managed to try two different sets of tires to see what works, and possibly Thursday-ish I may get to try a combination of the two. It looks like locally I may get some dry weather over Easter weekend, and get some more time on track.

Glad that you people are enjoying the course, and that you find it challenging enough :)

I'm currently thousands of miles away from my cars for work but we're wrapping up the project fast, so I should be back and able to give this track a go before the end of the month, or at least I hope so.

Meanwhile, some words from @nicksincrc really got me thinking:

Imagine it would be a real nice experience at twice the size but I found it real hard work with my physical limitations

I am well aware that most of us -including myself- have physical limitations regarding how big a track can be because our playgrounds are what they are, usually small, which is why all of our courses are so tiny, winding and head-spinning. But imagine running any of these tracks at twice the size? It would be a different driving experience. No more head spins, less stress on the cars and lo, the possibility of going full throttle for more than a split second a lap.

Sounds interesting to me.

Personally, I would have to go find a deserted parking lot on a Sunday or something of the sort since it would not fit my usual space, but I would be happy to do so every now and then if this was ever to be a thing.

Please note that I am not asking to change the game in any way, I'm totally good to stick to the usual, but I find nicksinc's idea quite interesting and believe that maybe we could give it a try someday, even as a "parallel track option" in order not to affect whoever is unable to find enough room.

Just some food for thoughts @TurnipJF :)

Bit of a crossed wire although I did mean be nice if it were bigger but the physical limitation I was personally referring to is my own being a C4 tetraplegic since 1988 I'm paralyzed from the neck down basically but I have an adapted controller, rest my hands on the sticks and use my shoulders to move them basically  which can be a challenge!!!

Interesting! And this really makes @nicksincrc's lap totals even more impressive - I do not intend to be patronizing, but I would being unable to use fine motor skills to drive these things is definitely an obstacle. Nicely done, sir :)

I tried scaling up the track for my first entry in Round 17 - the mini Watkins Glen circuit. It was actually quite fun and more like driving the actual course, although the space required to do so was definitely generous!

Think I will be dusting off my TamTech 1:24s

Oh I'm sorry for the misunderstanding! Nevertheless, yours is a very good idea :)

I have found time for a couple of trips to the minimized Ring. I have used the 23T motor now with adjusted timing. It's a lot faster now (out of the box it's lame compared with the 17T), but runs cool and is relatively nice on the battery. It's been so dry here,so you have 3 attempts on one spot before the surface is completely dug up and you get more and more understeer.

Yesterday I tried an old Yokomo I fixed up during the winter. It has some serious grunt, but runs too hot. It also dries out my 4000mAh shorty after one stint and a little random bashing. The front tires are of yellow compound and gives a lot more understeer than the silver I am used to. The Tomahawk looks badass though on the black Scorpion wheels I think.

Later today I'll try the wheels from the Grasshornet (Sand super rear, Cut Stagger Silver front), if I'm allowed to play for myself ;).

And a pic of the Tommy in the lovely wether yesterday.  Happy holydays to everybody.

New attempt today. Now with the wheels from the Grasshornet. It was better in regards of understeer, but the tall tires are very bouncy compared with the 2,2 tires I normally drive. After a powerdrift you offen get a contra wenn you get off the throtle.

Either way I have not been able to improve my lapcount since last week. It's simply too dry therefore endless loose debries on the surface already after one stint.

Another day with lovely weather here in Skien

Had a go with my Scorched DT02 yesterday, the above mentioned section seems hard for sure, i guess it would be easier if i was a better driver, im "new again" to rc cars (after a break of over two decades and actually driving hobby grade this time) but having a lot of fun.

I keep hitting the cones i picked up for this so i may just go back to yoghurt tub lids as those stay in place if clipped.

Good luck:). It's astonishing how much you will improve within let's say a yearB). If you are driving on loose surface I recomend to use marking paint under the cones (or just marking paint). Then it is quick and easy to mock up the course if you find some free time every now and then. And if a cone moves you now its position.

I use Biltema 45-7510 markers. They stay reasonably in place if you clip them with the inner front wheel.

Might have a look at those, have a biltema within 5 minutes drive, arent they a bit large tho? 19cm across?.

Ive been driving on a gravel football field and wouldnt want to ******* anyone off by using marking paint, id like to find someplace that has good fine gravel (dont wanna be chewing tires on asphalt) but isnt used regularly so i could mark out the grid semi permanently.

Yes a bit large. But because of low profile not so notable. Espesially if you turn/screw them down a little in the surface.

Just had my first try in postal racing for ages. With a car I've never run before on a track I've never run before. Wasn't that successful I think but I will submit it anyway. Now I prepare my Dirt Thrasher for a second try as the Mad Fighter with pogo sticks seem not to be the best choice for a bumpy backyard track.:)

Found the LapTrax app and tried it out for a couple of runs, far easier than having to film+count afterwards and the app spits out individual lap times+an average :)

Ran using the motion tracking feature, worked good but not perfect so i may attaching a fluorescent flag of some color to the cars to give the ColorTrax feature a try.

I tried to upload my results but the Google form is stating this round has ended? Anybody else with the same problem?

@Tamiyastef that is odd, hopefully it's a simple thing like maybe @TurnipJF forgot to reset the form after last round, or something like that!

Just found out I have a good window of time now, so will pack up the cars and head off to a parking lot to give this track a try.

Just got back from my first -and most likely last- crack at the Kleiner Nürburgring.

I went to the same spot of last time, the far end of a Home Depot parking lot, and much to my surprise the previous track was still there marked, including the starting line which at this point I "recycled" for the current track. It was a good sign, showing that the place is quite unattended so will likely become my new go-to spot, at least when I don't have access to my usual playground.

I took out the TT-02 Lancia Delta and the Terra Scorcher but I was only able to run the latter, since by the time I was done with it it was dark . Street lamps went on fortunately, so I could get at least a couple attempts in with the buggy.

The new track is tough! Quite more technical than I expected when tracing it, that's for sure. The first tight turns are challenging, and I soon wished I had dialled in a few more degrees of toe out. I found it very hard to get a decent flow, and only managed to achieve it by going very slow. Tra track did keep me on my tippy toes the whole time, but I had a lot of fun. After all, the Nürburgring is famous for being a difficult circuit...

Once again, it felt a little odd to be sharing pretty much the same orange tone with the Home Depot palette 😅

@Tamiyastef I too have tried to upload my results, and have experienced the same issue with the form. Hopefully it's no big deal and Turnip will get a chance to refresh it by the end of this round which, I think, is already this Sunday.

Don't worry, it is not too late. 👍

If anybody else would like to submit entries for any runs that they completed prior to cut-off, please do so asap. I am hoping to collate and post the results this evening after work.

Had high hopes of joining this month with some evening light but other things got in the way. I stuck some road (ish) tyres on the DT-03 but then at the same time as realising I was on the deadline I saw the track and realised my combination of car setup (bit understeery) and lack of talent would really struggle with those corners. Next time!

Is it allowed to compete with a non-Tamiya car?

I see no reason for a non Tamiya car to be excluded from the postal racing. I believe someone already entered results for a Kyosho Tomahawk.

It's a real challenge and really good honest fun IMO.
