Racing by post - Round 51 track is up. Hop along and see!

Recommended Posts

I submitted my results earlier today. On Thursday I finished the Porsche-body for the M210R, so it made it's first official laps on the track later that day. Before that I had tested it extensively, so this car alone has now made more than 800 laps. I have turned down the throtle D/R and EXP a lot and it is now controlable and incredible fast. Much faster than I am capable for ATM, but it still made more laps than the Golf. Needless I am happy with it.

The Golf on the other hand has been super consistent and made one good stint after another. The only thing I have changed on it is to mount soft tyres in the front. That made it do an extra lap and that was it's best result.

Holy Dooley, not all in the 5 minutes I hope 😱

I hadn’t heard of Carten until recently a 4WD M chassis would be awesome. Maybe some will find their way to Australia. Great to hear you’re liking it so much, and the Porsche looks fantastic by the way 👍🏻

I’m hoping to get out for a little final stint this evening.

Thanks for the kind words:). I'm telling myself that it's a backdated 964 C4, so then it's fine with 4WD drivetrain;)

I have ran it after work over several days. This week I only ran the Porsche,  since I felt I had got all I could out of the Golf. With brushless it's a new world for me, so eight stints on one pack goes fine.

You should get one and put your gorgeous Mini on it. (Then it would be kind of a hommage to Brede Alnes' Mini quattro. Look it up). Then you could get an Escort MK2 body for your M-08 and run it with 239mm wheelbaseB)

@Andreas W That Porsche is stunning! Is it the one from HPI? Did the Carten need anything to fit the width at the rear?

Thanks. Yes, this is a HPI-body. The Carten needed 7mm hexes rear and 4mm offset wheels. Then the rear track is the same as on the HPI-model.

You should get one and go brushless. You won't regret it.

I have had a very busy month this month and have yet to set a proper time for this round. That will be changing this afternoon though. Now I wonder... Shall I take it seriously and try for a podium finish with one of my fast touring or pan cars, or shall I just have a fun bash with a truck or something? Time will tell...😁

I hope you make a serious attempt. You have the skills and equipment to set a high lapcount on not so many attempts. Your trusty and forgiving M-05 would be a good candidate B)

I have the same one but still to finish the decals and decide to smoke the windows or fix an interior. It was meant to be on my M-05...

Thank you for that. I have had the Carten on my wishlist for a while now but not knowing what exactly I needed as hexes and offset held me back.

No, they are 5mm. Perfect for the front. You get a set of wheels (1mm offset)and tyres in the kit (I have the R plus version), so you need the 4mm offset wheels that Carten have as hopup.

The only thing I would upgrade from the R plus is bearings for the steering bridge and then the alu steering bridge as well. I see RC4you in be have the lot.

I've missed several of these lately.  Getting my parents into assisted living has taken up a bunch of time, but things have settled down.

I've started using duct tape to mark the corners on my driveway, as with chalk it would usually be only a day or two before some sort of rain would come through and I would have to re-measure out the corners again.  The tape is fairly durable and the 1:1 cars haven't removed it yet.  That way at least I can just go out and mark up the already-measured corners with some chalk pretty quickly and get running.

Anyway, I got the Police Lamborghini out again, and an actual race vehicle joined in!  Although technically this was more of an exhibition for them. Paved roads are not their forte.

Owing to the high speed gearing ( for a crawler), and possibly/probably the 13t 5 pole crawler motor (I put 25t in the entry because I hadn't checked at that point), The racer had a higher than expected top speed.  While the speed was not so high that the tires lost grip, they still chirped around every corner owing to the sold axles with no differentials in the system. The extra tight turning radius helped on the joker lap.  Most importantly, they managed to avoid tipping on their side!! :D

Commentating aside, :) I was surprised how well the Dakar truck/crawler handled the course.  It won't win any events, but it was easy to run/learn the course the first couple times in this.

Love that Truck 👆🏻👍🏻

Well, I had every intention of a last minute run around this circuit, but then the top came off this and that was the end of that…

Impressive @Andreas W and @MontyMole. Thank you @SlideWRX, now I'm not the only one anymore entering a CMX in the Racing by post 😄.

I hope I'll get back in business in the near future,  I absolutely do miss this but life is a bit too hectic lately and this combined with the amounts of rain we've got (and at the wrong moments) just didn't allow me to give the latest tracks a go. Congrats to every contender 👍

Outstanding @Andreas W, I thought that Carten would be ideal and tough to beat when I saw it pop up on another thread, well done mate 👍🏻

Equally amazing result @MontyMole, enjoy the champagne you two 🍾

Another great racing session all round, very enjoyable.

Thank you, guys:). I have made ca 450 laps with the M-05 and as said over 800 laps with the M210R. I wanted so much to make the new car as good as possible. It is as fast or faster than the Golf in the corners, but a lot faster on the straights. Beeing used to the braking power (or weakness)of the 1060 in the Golf the brakes on the Porsche are brutal. After I stopped messing up on the long straight with too much throtle too early and braking too hard too late better lapcounts came by itself.

Believe me. If we had flown in, let's say, Ferruz or TurnipJF, handled over the TX and let them do 6-8 stints per day with my M210R on that super grippy tarmac on soft Shimizus they would have found a way to make even more laps. The tarmac were I am running plays a huge role here. Last round I tried to run at a spot near my home, but gave up. There was endless wheelspin and locking by braking. Better keep on driving the longer way home when I want to run.

I have a new circuit on the drawingboard already. It will be another rallycross-circuit again, but this time here in Norway. With hopeB) I will have it ready to Friday.

PS: Congrats to MontyMole with a superb perfomance with the in this context big XV-01:).

Wow, I'm honestly stunned. I managed only to get one outing this month, due to my schedule and the scorching heat. Couldn't imagine I could get this far! I guess the new set of tyres did help, even if they are some discount Carson set I found in my LHS.

That is a really good lapcount for a first and only outing. I made 40 laps at the best with the M-05 after I finished practising and started the clock. Well done :)

So, Friday is here and it's time for the next track. This time I suggest we go to Lyngåsbanen, which used to be the most famous and legendary rallycross-circuit in this part of Norway-if not in Norway. Since 2013 the property is used as a recycling-plant.

As usual for us europeans all measures are given in metres. The darker green,  stipulated line marks the joker lap, which has to be driven minimum once within the stint. It's up to you when you run it.

PS: The direction is clockwise. Thank you, @Tamiyastef

Hope you like it.

That looks great! Let the next round begin!

We have a joker lap again, and the layout is that of a rallycross circuit, so why not give your rally cars an outing?

20230804_191956.jpg

Rules and results submission as per first post in the thread, deadline for completing your runs is midnight GMT, Sunday 27 August.

Happy racing!

Ha! Lyngåsbanen is very close to where i was born and was a famous place to watch EM RallyCross and the Norwegian Martin Schanche in the 80’s (later in life he seemed quite a douche bag in private though hehe).

Probably a sign that i should get the finger out and join in, still looking for a suited place though

Hehe. Later Martin moved to Drøbak, my previous homeplace, joined FrP (a populistic party on the right wing) and got elected to the Town council.

Well it's time to build the nice M-08. With the Escort shell  it is at home on a rallycross-circuit. A white shell with the stripes in FMS-colors brings back good memories from my childhood. I still remember the black MK2 with Zakspeed wide arches (which more likely was a product from Eiker Motorshop) and 7,5x13 RS-wheels. An excellent inspiration if I should build an M-08 with Escort body.

I have tried to find videos from Lyngås when he drove the XTrac Escort - a gamechanger - but only found loads of films from Lydden hill. So then we gotta settle for his RS2000 from 1997 in duel with Ludvig Hunsbedt driving Martins old car.

Enjoy and have a nice weekend everyone.
