Racing by post - Round 51 track is up. Hop along and see!

And from having experimented with different diff settings (tightness) in the M-05 I would think a spool would not be good expect perhaps on the grippiest of surfaces! You need to put gears back inside that thing 😅

With how I have this car setup (short wheelbase), the spool helps it mimic the sort of "point and shoot" driving that I do with touring cars.

Next round, I'd like to see how it compares with my other M05 though, since it's much less hopped up and has an open diff.

My apologies folks - with the Asylum Steampunk Festival having concluded last night, my dear wife and I didn't have the energy to do anything at all today. I'll have all the race results collated and uploaded soon - hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for bearing with me!

As you said earlier to one of the winners regarding making a new track: This is no commitment. This goes for this as well.

Ps: Hope the teapot racing went well and successful.

Funny how a silver can beat everything on the list, mean while my Castle brushless truck took last!

Since I bought up the whole "adjustability" stuff elsewhere, I'd like to note that my Honda had the most adjustable bits of my entry's. Yet in its second run it was easily beaten by a TL01 that I didn't do any setup work to. On the first run it lost to a slippery M06 with a stiff carpet setup.

Happy to see many entries this time.  Congrats to Tamiyastef, MontyMole and Re-Bugged with the podium finish. Well done.

Also congrats to TurnipJF for amazing results with the teapots. I clearly underestimated them. But who am I judging the capabilities of a competent built teapot :D?

Oh wow! I won :o.

I must admit I drove this course more than any other in the past with the XV-01 and had many many stints with a 6000mAh Lipo all stuck at 43.Some very close to 44 but always the 5 minute timer went off just before I reached the finish. So many I really thought I hit my highest achievable. On changing the battery I realised I had my best results in the past with the lighter 4000mAh Lipo's so took that for a spin and boom, with several turns taken obviously way too wide in the first stint I hit 45. Drove some more and as I felt there was still progress left.

Most ended up at the same 45 number but the first one with a freshly charged 4000mAh was the one where everything came together, it took all the corners as swiftly as I hoped and went really smooth the entire stint. That was the cleanest stint I ever drove. This course was as made for the set-up of my XV-01, never used the brake, just eased off the throttle and back on it after the turn. I've said it before, this really was a very enjoyable track!

I'm kinda in shock at my result, thought I'd be much worse and lower. I've put 18t pinion in and using a NiMH again in my M's, really want a 16t in it give me more control I think. Congrats Tamiyastef

I know the feeling. It went swift and smooth and all that but I would never have guessed to get the top spot.

I'll be looking for a new track layout ASAP. Hopefully even before the weekend. Depends on how things go at the clinic tomorrow afternoon, if they want to keep me it could take longer.

Wow, on the podium 🥳🍾💥 geez I didn’t think that would happen.

It’s amazing what a couple of little tweaks can do, and taking along Mrs RB to count laps so I can concentrate more was a big bonus 😄

Great circuit that was and well done Tamiyastef and Monty Mole 👍🏻

I’m thinking maybe a XV-02 project is needed in the future to shake up things up a bit.

( Just re-read the list and noticed Turnip JF drove a stint in reverse 🤣😂 awesome 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻 )

I was thinking of taking us to the Mandes Rallycross circuit for Round 38, what do you think?

Running anti-clockwise

20230831_232026.jpg

Coordinates:

marker 1= 3-4,5

marker 2 = 1-5

marker 3 = 1-1

marker 4 = 1-3

marker 5 = 2-2

marker 6 = 3-1

marker 7 = 5,5-1,5

marker 8 = 3-2

marker 9 = 6-3

marker J = 7,5-3

So again 1 joker lap to be made (clockwise around marker J) in each 5 minute stint.

I'm in doubt to move marker 1 from coordinates 3 - 4,5 to 3 - 5 maybe???

I think we can say we have a course with a fine combination of fast and technical. For me we can go for it. Marker 1 can stay there for me, but you will probably get a better flow around marker 2 if marker 1 is moved as you are suggesting.

Mandes looks like an interesting track, if a little technical for my SCT!

Does anyone have any tips for measuring meters? Me being in the US, my tools are imperial, so I have to do some extra math when I measure out tracks.

A little simplified we can say that 40 inches are 1 m, if you say 1 inch is 2,5 cm.

If you want it more exact an inch in reality is 2,54 cm. Then 1 m is 100÷2,54=39,3700787402 inches.

My suggestion is to leave marker 1 where it is in the drawing to avoid confusion.

Let's say that for Postal Racing 1 meter = 39,4 inches and 0,5 meter = 19,7 inches?

If we can all agree on this, then in the future marker coordinates can be given in both metric and imperial?

Even here in the US of A ;) they make tape measures in both imperial and metric units. This is what I have, although I didn't purposely shop for that feature. Probably got it from the Home Depot year ago!

One of my tape measures had both inches and meters, and I decided to buy a second to make setup easier.  Layout one along X, and then slide the other along for the Y coordinate.

I'll see if any of my tape measures have metric measurements. I feel like my lap times will be better with a more accurate track.

Apologies for not responding, I was on a vacation. This month's run were promising, even with the scorching heat; my last attempt to get some better times was foiled by my ESC going in protection mode due to the temperature. My tyres got really worn out in the front though.

As there's only one lap difference between us you're overheating ESC probably played a big role in me taking the win this time.

Congrats to you anyhow, you're on the podium!

I made the first trip to Mandes yesterday. I was running the M-05 Golf and the M-210R Porsche. This circuit is hard on the batteries. The Porsche only made 5 stints before hitting low voltage cut off on the 6th. It is also a fast track, so that will also explain the battery consumption.

I'm feeling more confident with the power of the Porsche now,  so it's probably time to loosen up the throtle EPA I have set quite low (a sort of desperate measure trying to gain control earlier).

The trusty Golf is going super consistant, but the front tyres are finished now. Onse of them is unround, so it is bumping in the corners. Given that it's not bad that it's best lapcount is only one lap short of the Porsche.

All in all I made over 270 laps yesterday and had great fun.

I wanted to write the same. Insane that so slow motor in right hands, can be the fastest.
