Congrats to Re-Bugged with an impressive double win. Nice to see many entries again.

I've never seen so many - which is most of us- doing the exact same lapcount before.

Congrats to all contenders and to @Re-Bugged and @Verskis with the podiumplaces! I'm happy to be on the board on my lucky number 13 :D

I am standing on the third podium place together with @Andreas W, @Pylon80 and @TurnipJF. It's crowded in here, hope they have enough champagne for all of us!

I think this format is great - living in Sunny Wales, there are no RC groups anywhere, and seeing this thread is what prompted me to join the forum and purchase a Tamiya kit so I could try some racing. I did try carpet racing many years ago but everyone was so much better and very competitive!

Just need to finish the car now so I can have a go!

That's excellent! So glad this thread helped bring you back to the hobby. Looking forward to receiving your first entry!

Welcome to @Old_Corny. It's cool that this theead inspired you to get into the hobby again. This is the primarily form of running I do.

I put on the red body on the XV-01 and gave it a last run on the course to test the MST tyres. Four stints all one lap short of what it did earlier on the now pretty worn Ride slicks.  Not bad and I save myself the labour of blowing the course - but still 5 laps behind our friend down under.. I like how it looks and reminds me of the car my neighbor drove 30 years ago. He had 5 spoke Speedlines,  though.

@Andreas W these tires are the best looker, period!

Once Santa brings you a Lapmonitor you can compare Ride Slicks to MST to Rally Block and see how they stack up. The best 10 laps average number in particular is very useful and tells no lie.

As long as it's summer temps I think it's pretty sure the Ride slicks would be fastest. Now in 10-12C temps it's not so. The slicks always need a stint to warm up. Nowadays they don't warm up,  so I never get to the point where they grip well. It's nice that the MST tyres grip good while also looking good.

Thanks all, sorry for the late catch up just not enough hours in the day recently & feels like square pegs in round holes most of the time 😅

Geez Louise 😳 I knew the XM felt quick but no idea it would be that much & I see myself as pretty lucky to have access to a quality surface to run on and idea conditions weather wise.

I thought about taking us back to RbP origins of a few markers in a small space & hopefully with enough room between them to open it up to racing with anything from a Clod Buster to an M Chassis, and more doable for TT’s?

May I present Kangaroo Crossing for your next racing pleasure (I would also recommend using a Clod as I’ve seen what a Roo can do to a small sedan when they come together, not pretty!!)

Hope it meets with everyone’s approval.

Happy Racing 🏁

I'm on my spot now testing out different tyres on the XV-01. The course fits and the weather is ok out this week. If we all approve I'll mark it up already tomorrow.

First run on the Roo-course today.  It reminds me of Våler in reverse,  which was the course that really got me going in 2023.

The M-05 went nice and controllable around the course without much fuzz. I can do some of the turns tighter , but all in all happy with the performance. 4 full stints stints done and all results within 2 laps.

The XV-01 is more challenging because of much more power,  but still made it only 1 lap slower than the ultra consistent M-05. It only made 3 full stints and all were within 2 laps.

I have put the ST back in the Grasshornet,  so inspired by Tamiyastef I am gonna enter that as well as the M-08 Escort.

The tyres are on the end. All four tyres on the XV-01 has the groove by now. The same goes for the ones on the Carten as well. So after this round and the current endurance round I am safe to say that three sets of tyres are ready for the bin.

I wanted to test the motor temps after I mounted a fan, so I squeezeed in 3 stints while going for groceries. To no surprice the motor ran cooler and I improved my previous best with one more lap. The XV-01 is now in the lead.

I even ran the Grasshornet. On the first 2 stints I spun once or twice and/or missed the second marker in the chicane. It turns a lot worse than the cars I am used to run ATM. On the 3rd and last stint it went surprisingly well.No spinning, no overshooting, going over markers or cutting too much. It ended up only 10 laps behind the XV-01. That's not bad for a kids toy on worn out Padlatracks, but on vented Nikko F10 wheels. .

Yesterday I set out the circuit for this month's Racing by Post challenge and what a challenge! It really highlights my need for practice, particularly the chicane.

Today I did it again and mangaged a few laps where I didn't have to stop/reverse/restart

I can't drive and count though

I'll have to ask the good lady to come along with her knitting counter :D

The Laptrax app is your friend. Or at least it might be if it works for you. I find it works fine for me although the interface isn't intuitive. Some others don't like it. If I didn't have it I'd struggle to enter - I also can't count and drive!

Fingers crossed for some dry weather next week and my son and I might get a run.

Thank you! It never occurred to me that there might be an app. I downloaded the iPhone eqivalent which seems to work. I'll try it tomorrow :D

Hope you get some decent weather :)

I ran the M-05 Suzuki Swift yesterday. The temps are relatively cold ATM, so no improvement. I never got closer than 1 lap behind my previous best.

Today I ran 6 stints with the M-08 Escort. Already on the first stint it made one lap more than the best from the Grasshornet- even with one spin. It is a challenge to run fast and it does not give anywhere near the confidence of the M-05, which just goes and goes in a fast manner. The M-08 ended up 5 laps behind the M-05, which is not bad for the first attempt. If we look away from the first stint with spin, which was a write off, all stints only had one lap difference. If the tempsrise a bit I can maybe squeeze out one more lap of it. It goes rather well and I even had full throtle (it has -23% throtle EXP and throtle D/R 80%), so maybe I can free up a little. The well worn Shimizus on the rear are gripping good at least.

To sum up

1) XV-01

2) M-05 -1 lap

3) M-08  -6 laps

4) Grasshornet -11 laps.

Being retired, I am able to make good use of decent weather and have had several sessions on this course. This is my first kit, and it seems my driving skills need "hopping up" before the chassis does!

Anyway, it's been great fun and I've learned a bit about driving my TT-02 based R32 GTR but it has also raised many questions which I will raise elsewhere.

I see a comment on @Re-Bugged's post "and more doable for TT’s?". Are TT chassis difficult to drive on short/tight courses?

On a side-note, two of my sons and I have 1/43 scale cars and we have started an "RBP" (we live in different parts of the UK) based on an area 1.6m x 1.4m on the kitchen floor. Thanks to the Tamiya Club for the idea :)

It’s just that I’ve had a bit of a love/hate thing with TT02’s. Manly having off road stuff and M chassis’s before one I eventually bought a TT02R. The main issue was the the first 3 runs I did with it something would break or fall off stopping the show, and the turning circle was hopeless as well with it struggling to make it around some of the circuits without having to do a 3 point turn or an ultra wide line. Fine on a large fast circuit though.

Perseverance paid off after discovering that cutting off the steering stops would help the turning circle enormously. The TT02R comes with CVD’s that can handle it compared to a bog stock TT with the fat dog bones that will fall out once the stops are cut off.

I now really enjoy the TT02R, I have managed to squeeze one rushed session in this round, and the TT02R actually came in 8 laps ahead of the XM-01 Pro 😳. I didn’t expect that, how I’m feeling at the time definitely seems to have an effect on what car does better than another for any given circuit. I did get quite engrossed in adopting a more rally style of driving with the XM-01 sliding through corners rather than the a proper race line with the grippy TT02R 😃

It’s RbP that is really helping me to understand a cars set up, how it’s behaving and what improves it as I probably wouldn’t have bothered just mindlessly free running in an open car park.

Hope you’re enjoying the RbP as much and 1/43 scale kitchen racing sounds like hoot 👍🏻

I had the last attempt yesterday. Since the temps are lower I fitted the 33 Ride slicks I have ran on the rear on the Carten in the front on the M-05 and kept the 30 rear. To no surprice the grip while braking increased, it was easier to get a good line around marker 1, resulting in a good line through the chicane and not going too wide around marker 6. This made it do one more lap than the previous best and that's it I think.

I also ran the M-08. I have until now ran it on M and S Shimizus,  but wanted to see if it could do more on Ride slicks. I moved over the wheels from the M-08 and see: Already on the first stint it made three laps more. The grip is so much better. I could really push it and didn’t have to nurse it that much while braking. In the end it increased the lapcount by anither lap and it made two stints with that lapcount ending up only two laps short of the M-05.

The ground clearance increases and the proportions are not that off I think, even though I think it looks more attractive on 55D tyres.
