20250317_115033 Can't believe it's taken me thislong to get involved. Thanks for pulling it together.

Nice to see the BBX does it's duties and that you utilize a day off for this. As Tamiyastef says it's pretty addictive, when you get the hang on it, are close to make one more lap and fight for two weeks to make it.

If you have access to a training field with astro it's nice to drive buggies there. And also get flat markers, so you can cut on the inside without the car getting thrown out of the line or flip.

I ran the Grasshornet today and it's already one lap better than the Tomahawk. The conditions were far better when I made the first stint,  so the Tomahawk would also have improved if I had brought it.

The 3d printed bumper turned up for this, so I went back to the park to have another go!

Bit faster than BBX but much harder to drive. Real handful. Very traction Limited. Not sure if that's the tyres or the rear suspension.

I have been giving the "strictly (3)80s" class a go with my Grasshopper Black Edition, completely stock apart from bearings.

Running it straight after my 4.5t brushless Group C, it feels sooo slooooow!

Absolutely cracking flags here today, so popped to the park on my lunch. Dry grass and Ultra G

Still quite traction limited, but lots of fun. Might have to find a set of spare rears and get some proper spike tyres for RBP.

Glad to see Ultra G out in the sun in lovely conditions. Now try some full spikes or cat blocks on the rear. Then I think the grip is sorted (but hope you don't get understeer instead).

I have done a load of runs with the Tomahawk this week. Report from that to come.

Agreed. I have some full spikes but they are on db01 pin drive wheels. Ultra G has universals now so I will have to dig through my spares to see if I still have the dogbones and long axles. If I do that's the cheapest way to sort it. I have some cat blocks too, but no 2" wheels to put them on.

I put cat blocks on 2,2 Turbo Scorpion wheels the other day. Blue compound,  so on the healthy Tomahawk they will last a few generations. A little tight,  but goes on and I saved myself the glueing.

This week I have only ran the Tomahawk. I got a package of various rear tyres last week and am waiting on a package with various front tyres now.

On Wednesday I put a fresh set of blue compound cat blocks on the Turbo Scorpion wheels. If I had the choice I would rather had yellow on this car,  but I am happy to get a setnof these tyres to begin with. They were superb. Have more grip than the mini spikes,  but less grip than the full spikes,  and therefore less understeer. Iam happy to finally have sorted the understeer on this car. The diff has only #1000 oil, but with the weak motor and good grip there is no problem with diffing out. The lapcounts were equal of my previous best, but one stint was one lap more distancing the Grasshornet with 2 laps and it's the same result as the XV-02.

I also tried the balloon tyres. I have until now don't liked them. The grip while accelerating is good,  but there is too much understeer and the soft tyrewall collapses while shifting direction in fast corners. With the weak motor they work just fine, so if I get one of the new front tyres on the 2" wheels I can run them. Iwas not able to get up to the best lapcount though (one lap behind).

All in all I'm happy with the result and I am not capable of doing any better on this surface. Now it's drying up and after a few rain showers to wash the salt away it's time to run on tarmac again.

Mini Mayhem at Tamiya USA Raceway,

IMG_0149.jpeg

The Red one is on an M05 with some Ver2 parts. I haven’t used it much as I didn’t want to wreck the 2CV that normally sits on it.

The first stint with full size 1/10 24mm wheels & racing slicks that came with the TT02R (mainly for visual). Lets say ‘messy’ for that one 🤣  FWD is an animal I’m definitely not used to that’s for sure. The back end was all over the place drifting out on the corners, even though it’s only powered along by a Silver Can & TBLE-02.

So I then decided to have another go stealing the wheels off the M08 putting the Softs on the front and Mediums on the back

IMG_0151.jpeg

This calmed the drifting down and made for much smoother laps, but It wasn’t until about half way through the second stint that I was getting my eye in and a feel for the circuit and things were coming together. Wheelspin was still an issue though.  Definitely can’t be as trigger happy with the throttle as a RWD for a smooth lap. Could also be the lack of drag brake to which I have become accustomed to.

So then the wheels were swapped back to the M08 for its turn. It is just a joy for me always puts a smile on my face, one of those ones I really connect with Hooning around. I was tighter and more refined with it than the M05, but then I’ve had heaps more time with it. I do wonder if sharing a Transmitter for different cars is a good thing or not? Because you get used to driving style with one car then have to change your muscle memory to how you control another?

At the end of it all, 2 stints with both cars all yielded the same lap counts anyway, even if some were prettier to watch than others.

Good to be out this round nonetheless as I unfortunately won’t be able to for April.

The JCW Mini looks brilliant. And good to see it's able to accomodate full size TC wheels.

You should try the grippier tyres on the rear. That calms it down a lot. The rest is throtle control. Trying to always apply enough throtle so the wheels just spin a little and most power gets transformed into motion.

After a winter of rallying and running 380 I need to find back to that techniqe. Starting the tarmac season with the M-05 has worked good for me until now.

For me seeing a certain body is very psycological. When I see a body I assosiate it with a certain driving style. The Impreza body was used for endurance last year. After I got the winter XV-01 I ran the white Lancia on it, but since the non planned XV-02 turned up it needed a temporary body, so the Impreza went on the winter XV-01. Now using it for endurance again is hard. I am now used to it beeing on a way more slidable chassis and beeing much harder on the throtle out of corners and wreck it into corners. This is very visible while running the MST LTX tyres ,but the Ride slicks seem to cover that up.

All this would find a solution when I get into it again and each chassis gets it's own body.

Cheers @Andreas W 👍🏻

Yeah I think more practice & a few tweaks are certainly in order with the M05, mixing and matching the tyres to see what suits it best. I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination but that car park I use feels less grippy than it used to?

Funny you say about swapping bodies around on different chassis affecting driving styles, as I’ve left my Cheapo Nismo blob on the TT02R for ages now so I’m reluctant to change it for that reason 😉 Also makes life so much easier when you just bung a battery in and go, as it is it qualifies for RBP & ERBP.

I was in two minds to use JCW body on the XM-01 but it has a bit of a custom made rear body mount for the Giulia that would be a bit of a faff to keep changing.

@Re-Bugged. PS: You should try the Yeah Racing sealed gear diff and 3racing fast gear set (I got 3 of them, to ensure the first one doesn't break -_-). Yes, it hurts that it is one tooth too small, but the far more consistent diff makes up for it. I did not have 500k oil as suggested as a starting point by RC Kleinkram,  so I took what I had: 30k with a blob of 1mill until it felt right. The whining noise you get will suit the JCW shell. It's the same noise the first gen 1:1 New Mini Cooper S gets when you run a toothed belt on the supercharger B)

Maybe the genius at YR who purposely made it one tooth too small just really likes the gear noise? 😅 I think they also make a diff case with the correct number of teeth as a separate part though, is that right?

Another beautiful shell @Re-Bugged!

Hehe. It must be like that. Everyone who has heard a B&M blower is marked for their lives :D

The Tamc-024 is something I want, but I have only seen it mentioned at RC Kleinkram,  but have yet to see it in a webshop- even YR Racing themselves don't have it:blink:. I think it must be down to the well known  global shortage of rocking horse poo:lol:

Yesterday I fixed the Carten M210R and I planned to give itna go on the endurance course. But the rain would not stop and as I got to my spot the green trailer was back, so no course anymore. The front sidenof the building has endless space, but the tarmac is far too dirty for the Carten. I was prepared,  so I also brought the XV-02 as a plan B. So then it was normal Postal Racing instead, to run down the two shorties.

I made 6 full stints and a few laps of testing and just having fun sliding around the course.  On the first pack I ran MST LTX. It was too wet for them, so the rear was too loose. It was impossible to hold a slide or control the rotation. Despite spinning and rotating the wrong way when I wanted to round marker 1 it was still faster than it's best on gravel.

For the second pack I switched to the thin, worn out rally blocks I got with my first XV-01. They worked far better on the XV-02 than they did in similar conditions on the XV-01 last year. The car responded better to the inputs, the speed got up and I felt confident enough to go down on the throtle D/R and exponential. I think it's time to put the 29t pinion back in as well. At the end it improved by 5 laps and I am happy with that.

After I fitted the center diff it has more off power oversteer, so it's easier to makenit slide into the corners then the XV-01, which often needs flicking or pumping the throtle.

The cover and foam does a good job with keeping the water out. It was dropping wet,  but inside it's nice and dry.

Access to the receiver isn't easy in the XV-01 and so I'm lucky I have a second transponder for the other cars. On the Terra Scorcher (no picture) there's a velcro patch between the drivers arms where I can put the transponder. I used this for the Mylaps transponder during the Tamico Offroad Cup last year and left the velcro in place. I now learned I need to put tape on one side otherwise the Lapmonitor system registered the car more than once during a lap.

I considered this so I bought 3 transponders, figuring one would live in a TC01, one in the 3 speed, and one to move around. I forgot I own some XV01s . Luckily seconds before submitting an order for a few more I thought of a much cheaper solution. I quickly made some simple mounts for various cars to 3d print, and a clip for the transponder so I could easily move it to other cars or change directions depending on track layout. As for the XV and TC I put servo extensions with the end in an easy to access spot. One day I’ll make better looking mounts but for now these will do.

Todays RBP lineup:

IMG_6018.jpeg.c3f608854c488d91135ae447dcfe8d0b.jpeg

XV01 with the front universals installed ran beautifully, no more front end hopping around, BT01 ran great, did turn a bit tight and managed to roll it though :(. Found out it’s my first time taking this F1 out, went to plug in the battery and noticed I soldered the wrong connector to the esc , switched that out and off I went. Grip was non existent which made it quite challenging, especially braking, then the motor seized. Wasn’t able to get a full run in though the handful of laps I could complete were 1-2 sec faster than my XV. Switching out the motor now and If the rain stops might give it another go. Battery was still good so took out my slightly modified TT02, now with a working rear diff , turning radius was garbage, it seemed like it was overpowered, a handful to drive, and I wasn’t putting much effort into getting around the track fast, so I was surprised to find I was getting same lap times as the XV. Wasn’t able to complete a full run with it though as I had to keep stopping to fix it. I wedged it under a car tire, plowed through the lap monitor, headlight fell off and jammed the steering, crashed into walls getting it stuck, then as I thought I was going to finally complete a full 5mins the battery died :(

No photos, but I popped into work with FF01-LA to have a go at the track in the car park. It's super windy today, but that main issue was that a track this tight is really hard to drive a 10th touring car around! Needed to go very slowly and carefully and didn't manage a single clean 5 min run without hitting a track marker or the wind blowing the track away! I only have the core21t motor, but I could see a silver can bring fine for a track this small. I can see way m chassis are great for these.

Well that was a pleasant surprice. Seems like the XV-02 is really good after all on semi grippy surface. We are a good bunch on 26 laps,  so pretty even.

Ultra G is impressing with 25 laps on grass. That's something.
