Congratulations to all! A bummer I couldn't enter this roundĀ but I have an entry for Endurance at least šŸ™‚

Congrats to everyone and thank you @TurnipJFĀ for keeping this going. I think now I'd like to focus more on one car for the next round and try that car with different tires but I will probably end up with different cars in the endĀ

Really happy with my original Grasshopper, still going strong

Gutted that life got in the way of joining in. That looked like a great track.Ā
My Pine Beach 380 Scorpion is nearly done and I hope to get some times on the next one.Ā
Congratulations to everyone. Some really interesting times there, especially where the same driver used different cars / batteries etc.Ā

You should be. That was a good lapcount with the small motor. You must have had a most possible clean lap on that oneĀ B).Ā

Ā

I also sing along with the thankfulness towards TurnipJF. This is a really positive activity for me and meanwhile the only RC activity I do, but all year around:).

Ā

I am working on a course for the next round.Ā

I have dried out a little, so I felt for revisiting an earlier course. I would like to revisit Imola and we recycle the brilliant drawing/art bynour good friend @Ferruz.Ā

Ā

TurnipJF made a whopping 48 laps with two cars last time with Ferruz right behind with the Terra,Ā  so that's the top benchmark to beat.Ā

Nice! If I have to make at least one attempt with the cars I ran last time I need to get someĀ work done on my TA-03F. Can't believe it was already almost 3 years ago! It was the first time driving my then brand new XV-01Ā :D

Congrats everyone! I’m impressed with how well all the grasshoppers did, think I’ll have to bring mine out for this next track, it’ll definitely be the slowest but will be funĀ :D.
Ā

Changed out the seized motor in my F1, even though I’ve been organizing my rc stuff I somehow lost my motor box so had limited options to choose. None of which I wanted to go with, but luckily a 380 finally showed up in the mail. So now I’m going with small motor lightweight F1Ā :). Pinion adapter didn’t quite fit though and while modifying I destroyed it so waiting for a new one to show up along with a carbon rear shaft.

Nice @Andreas W, glad you chose to revisit Imola!

I miss the postal racing very much. Some shifts in work and life (plus most of all my less-than-optima time management) have kept me away, but I shall be back soon, hopefully with the good season... and with the same cars 😁

For now, happy racing y'all ✌

Congrats @Andreas W, especially under the conditions you race in. I was so close to picking up my XV-02 when I went out!! I was keen to see how the M-05 went against the M08 though. I do have a stabiliser set for the M05 so that would probably help the wheel spin as well as some diff work as per your tips šŸ˜‰.

I’m away for 3 weeks now so this months most likely out for me, so the XV02 showdown will have to wait for the immediate future….

Here’s to Imola šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

Looking forward to have you back. We are renovating (and have been morenor less since 2011), so I know a bit about not reaching over it all. You have built a gorgeous, custom, Turbo Optima and that is really something.

Cheers. My best tip for your M-05 is good tyres. I run Ride 60D slicks,Ā  which I see you can get from RC Mart. In the summer 36 compound front and 30 rear. In your temps maybe 40 front and 33 rear is better. And then of course the Yeah Racing diff,Ā  if you can live with the squeeling. Get a few gearsets if you are going with the 3racing one and nothing breaks (knock on wood)B).

If that helps, I got my M-05Ā to a point where steering was so good that I started to have the rear coming loose. Rear couldn't keep up basically. I installed theĀ thin roll bar, at the front only. Now the rear is planted. Obviously you lose a tiny bit of steering but there was so much to begin with that it's not a problem even for postal.

Put my old beat up race bodies on a couple trucks and brought them out for some fun todayĀ :DĀ along with the twin motor xv01. Tight but fast track, was a blast to run.

IMG_3331.jpeg.0c71cf263c25c2bcd7eca7533566487e.jpeg

unfortunately they did not last longĀ :(, the super Blackfoot made a clicking noise, pulled the rear apart and everything looked fine, kept playing with and shimming everything because it seemed the two gears would move a little and hit each other,Ā but still would click and I couldn’t figure it out until I took a very close inspection of all the teeth and I noticed a couple tips of the teeth on the spur were starting to come off. After putting it together with one side of the gear case left off and the spur marked I ran it with the motor and sure enough it was those couple teeth. I guess it just wasn’t made to take 30+ years of zero maintenance lots of abuse and a couple yearsĀ brushless power. New gears on the way so hopefully I’ll get it in this months race.

The hummer has only been ran inĀ the rain and mud for the past 4 years or so and gets hosed off after, so once again poorly maintained, been planning rebuild but haven’t gotten to it, so the motor was having some issues, main problem was I had to push it to get it moving so stopping was not an optionĀ . Was keeping a good pace until I lost steering, once again 30 year old plastic is no match for time. So more parts on the way and while I had it on the tableĀ I decided to swap the motor out for an 11t I have sitting around, so now I can let it stop againĀ :D.

IMG_3332.jpeg.7c39a622de3ef4dbc5bcb8ea2e49c96f.jpeg

XV01 ran flawlessly, only problem it had was me, Ā need to improve my driving to get a few more laps out of it.

Sadly I didn’t do a build or anything on it, it’s the Embie racing ALLinONE chassis built as mid and front using two xv01 gearboxes. Real simple to build, front as normal, front again with rear arms and carbon tail piece, put on each end, upper deck for support and servo. Can also put servo on chassis with all the regular steering bits but I chose to simplify. Small battery holder would be better and I have, but I put the long one on so I can charge less batteries and just move same one from car to car since my F1s are the only thing I use short packs in and usually don’t run when I’ve got the XVs out.

Apart from losing the typical "heavy front" driving characteristics does it change a lot to the car? Looks great (but all two motor cars do IMO) don't think I've seen this done before on an XV-01.

I was going to build a two motor TA03 but getting my hands on all the parts at the time was troublesome, and then i stumbled across the Embie and instantly thought ā€˜that’d be easy to put two motors on’. I went with the mid layout for the back instead of the motor hanging off the rear and the battery as far forward as possible to try to keep the heavy front feel. To me it seems to still have most of the Xv-01 feel to it, just more of an over powered XV-01 feel. Every other time I’ve ran it I had issues with one motor dying, pinion coming off a motor, esc trouble, etc, so most my experience so far has been it running rwd or fwd. This week I plan to run this back to back with a regular one to try to get a better comparison since I’ve never done, haven’t taken it off road yet either and I’m sure that’s where the difference would be most noticeable. I’ll update with my findings.

I've been watching loads of vids from Dario lately (am gonna watch two more after posting this) and am heavily influenced. This round I am entering only rally cars and only on MST LTX tyres. I have been running the XV-02 extensively this week and has got a good flow. I am sliding around marker 4 and otherwise try to go in an ideal line as possible. I have improved 5 laps since the first stint. The last improvement came today, but now it's harder.Ā

Ā

Today I tried the XV-01 for the first time. I have gone back to 6,1 FDR because of rally tyres and I don't need the speed on this course. Already on the first stint it made the same lapcount as the best of the XV-02. The XV-01 has more front bite and turns in a bit more aggressive, so it was a bit staccato on the first stint. I got used to it again and it improved further. I tested new MST LTX semi slicks on it to see if they can be ran without glueing. They cannot be. The right front went off already at marker 4 on the first lap.

Ā

Now that I know the lapcounts from last time I can say that the double of TurnipJF was impressive. It's quite a bit up there, I can say.Ā

His is a very different style compared to how "we" would drive I think? Very point-and-shoot rather than wide-and-flowy. It's a very interesting perspective for postal actually šŸ‘ with the tracks so tight you kind of have to be very dynamic about it. Load the front wheel with tons of brakes to initiate the turns, floor it in a straight line to the next marker etc. Something to try. Under his influence I am now running soft springs and 300 oil on almost all my cars.

I have installed the front roll bar on the XV-01, just the thin/pink one for now. The car is insanely fun and the rear slides effortlessly and in a completely controlled way. I never "lose" the rear. It's fun but I don't know if it's fast. The rally blocks supplied with my kit for some reason don't seem to be making as much grip as other sets I have had. All hard/regular compound, never even tried the soft ones. The car is much faster on Rush 32's.

I only go that style around marker 4 on this course. Otherwise the speed here is too slow to do otherwise than go smooth and in the ideal line. I try to be more like Kuba, who is a lot easier at the sliding and enters the corners less aggressive. In his latest vid you also see Pavel who won the rally. He also goes smooth and almost not slide at all. Also Dario is way less aggressive in the corners now with the new car than we remember from earlier.Ā

Ā

The XV-01 has a too loose rear diff (1000) and the springs are too stiff. I run the pink stabilizers in both ends. It's lovely on slicks. For going in old people style it also is, but if you want to slide you need speed and you need to brake hard or drop the throtle abrupt while turning in. You cannot just floor it to slide around a marker. Then it would just spin the inner rear wheel. The dilemma is if I should go up to 9000 oil (in inventory) rear to have a setup more like Nicadraus, or just keep it as is and enjoy a well working postal racer. It's faster than the XV-02, but not by much. On slicks it's a different story (but that is not for this round).

Ā

The XV-02 has 8000 oil in the front and since I was lazy/it was late the kit 3000 in the rear. And has 400 oil front and 250 rear.Ā  All inspired by Dario. Works nice on the semi clean tarmac on MST LTX. I also tried the worn out Ride slicks and it still slides around marker 4 in a predictable way.Ā

Ā

The winter XV-01 has 8000 oil in the front and 5000 rear as in one of Dario's XV-01 vids. 400 oil front and 250 rear. No stabilizers. Ultra predictable on snow and gravel. Can be driven in an active way with full control, as long as stones keep out of the rear arms and drivecups. I have not tried it yet on this course. I will wait until the lapcount has stagnated for the other, to not mess up. It's hard enough going from the XV-02 after running it the whole week to the XV-01.Ā

I ran the three rally cars extensively last week and think I cannot do better on the MST tyres. The XV-01 is 2 laps ahead of the XV-02 and the winter XV-01, which is surpricing with the weaker motor against the XV-02. The Hobbywing in the XV-02 slides with no effort around marker 4, while the Ruddog gets somewhat empty there.Ā

Ā

I deviated from my original plan and tried the M-05 Suzuki Swift last Friday. Oh man, that went well. Already on the first stint it was a new personal best and the next two stints were 2 laps more. Good times.Ā

Ā

Since I want to ride the 380 wave I tried the Tomahawk yesterday. I normally don't run my buggies on tarmac, when I can run f.ex. the M-08 instead,Ā  but 380 is the thing so Tomahawk it is. 5 stints in all, no drama and all were better than I did with the M-05 last time in 2022. I am glad that I bought the fan mount when I got the motor. Now it's about 13C and there the motor gets hotter now. Nothing serious, but it will be when we hit 20C.

Ā

Today I'll run the M-05 on Tamiya Racing Slicks, like I did in 2022 for comparance.Ā

I squeezed in one last attempt today with the M-05 on the same Tamiya kit slicks I ran in 2022. It was a solid improvement over my 2022 lapcount and it ended up on the same lapcount as the two loose surface rally cars and 5 laps behind the result on Ride slicks.Ā

Ā

I can see with the naken eye that the car accelerates less on the Tamiya tyres. It is also less consistent in the corners, so it's easy to make mistakes when you are pushing. I made 5 full stints,Ā  but probably had equally many aborted stints. The tyres are past their best and are paper thin now.

Ā

I have to say that I prefer the look with the larger wheels as well.Ā Ā

      Hi Jon,
In the linked image, I've simply moved the bar forward until it is centered directly over the rear shock tower (approx. 10.72mm) and kept the same height. Ā Is this what you had in mind?
