I hope to keep this going until the Coronapocalypse is over and we can get back to normal racing, and maybe even beyond of it proves popular. Also, it is just for fun, even if your car is a bit broken or not quite finished, given not give it a go (if it can still be made to move)? Whatever ails it can be used as your excuse in the novelty category! Im actually looking forward to participating!! 😁 Maybe I stand good odds of winning the "Racing Excuses" category!!! 😜😂😄
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 20, 2020 On page two, I showed how I remove SLOP from most Tamiya Cars! Even posted a short Video... Understandably, some of my YouTube subscribers didn't quite get it with just a couple of pictures. SO.... I redid it - as a Video - hopefully better. I believe it works WELL, and really want to share this idea with all of you!! 😊 Maybe even enjoy a little of my old Band in the background! 😉 One important step I left out, that should be obvious... Make sure that you lubricate all Pins before reassembly!! I used my other idea, Anti Seize Lubricant, as it will fill any remaining gaps, stays PUT, and doesn't attract as much dust as other lubricants.
TurnipJF 9113 Posted September 20, 2020 Good tip this. I did the same thing on my TT-01's steering rack before I went over to alloy. Lasted a full season!

It does work surprisingly well. Many of us know about the CA Cement and Baking Soda trick, for repairing and/or filling bigger gaps in Plastic.... But in this case, the gap was literally MICRONS. Combined, all the gaps equates to quite a bit of SLOP! For these tiny gaps, just Thin CA alone not only fills them, but hardens the surface, making it last even longer!! And for People like me, the price is right. 😊
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 22, 2020 Whilst waiting for various Parts to arrive... I thought it was a good time to overhaul the Rear Diff! 😉 MAYBE there's a thin layer of Ceramic Grease on these FRP Gears.... I JUST CAN'T SEE IT. 😖 The Rear Diff is also getting Anti Seize Lubricant.... But more of just a coating, for a little less lockup. (I literally Filled the Front Diff with AS Lube, for a much stiffer Diff) 😉
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 22, 2020 I'm ALMOST amazed, the way things have been going so far!!! 😜 And the Variable Rate, Tamiya CC-01 Barrel Springs feel better than anything I've tried yet! I realise that many of my ideas here are a bit unorthodox..... But I DO take the time to test and make sure they add something positive to these Cars!! 💯😊 On another note, I discovered something pretty cool about the original Tires that I bought for this, 4 years ago! Don't know how clearly you can see it, but it's there!! They're Austar Tires, and SURPRISINGLY soft and Grippy!! Only $8.95 USD for a Set of four! 👍👍 .... @ACCEL I TOLD you these would be useful on my TT-02. THANKS!! 1
ACCEL 2014 Posted September 22, 2020 Is the baking soda used as an expansion filler? never heard of this, how fabtabulous, Arm & Hammer truly has many uses. I'm actually a 20 Mule Team man myself

I'm actually a 20 Mule Team man myself EXACTLY. One of the 10,000 uses for Baking Soda!! 😁 It's a great Large Gap Filler. Even sandable and printable. That's an old trick, but still very effective! Carmine A 2046 Posted September 23, 2020 DAAAAAMMMMNN!!! 😖😠😠 The Mercedes AMG GT3 is a FAIL. Comes with Pre-DRILLED Body Holes, so that's a hard NO for me! "Second" Choice but not awful because I'm a lifetime Mustang FREAK... Added Bonus - it's $10.00 CHEAPER!! 😊
mud4fun 1696 Posted September 23, 2020 I prefer the Mustang anyway!! Love the idea of the 'exhausts'

I've seen the Notch on Evilbay - for $15.00 MORE!!! The Hatch looks better than I thought. I'm trying to picture it not SLAMMED with stupid, overcambered Wheels! 😜 I hope there's a U.S. distributor... The only other place I've seen them, is some former Eastern Bloc Country!!! 😲😖

That depends on where you get it I believe. There are some exceptions, but those shells sold by kit-breakers typically come pre-drilled for whatever chassis they were originally supplied with, while those manufactured and sold as stand-alone bodysets by Tamiya typically come without holes. My AMG GT3 shell was one of the latter, and I had to drill my own holes. Not half nerve-wracking I can tell you! But at least I only have the holes I need, without the unnecessary antenna hole.

I can vouch for the company that sells these. I recently bought a shell from them and it's quite sturdy.

I can't get either anytime soon, but I would definitely consider a Fox Hatchback as a second Body - maybe even a Display Body!! 😊
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 26, 2020 GOOD NEWS!! 😊 (in my best James May voice!) Something arrived when EXPECTED!!! I may have to get a Lotto Ticket!! 😜 Including more FAKE Disc Brakes... Which I MIGHT paint Silver, for I don't know why!! 😂
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 26, 2020 IF you're building a purely Rally TT-02 Chassis, Mark's trick here adds vital Clearance. I'm NOT Slamming Mine, but I also appreciate the extra Droop - because I haven't been Pro in Decades, and will be running on OLD Tarmac. Of COURSE the extra Bits might come in handy for a Friend!! 😉
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 27, 2020 OK..... I'll try this again!! 😜 Feel free to jump in if you have any comments, complaints or insults!! 😂 DEFINITELY remember, don't break out the TORQUE WRENCH on a Plastic Model!! Reassembly was far more successful this time! I noticed the same thing on my M05. The Steering Rods hung at a lower angle than the A-Arms, causing Bump Steer... Carmine A 2046 Posted September 27, 2020 SO I FIXED THAT TOO!! 😊 Now that she's back together... You can see the brilliance of my Friend Mark's idea!!💡 Im LEAVING those lower Shock Mount thingies, both as a last line of defense for the Kingpins - and in case I need to lower the Suspension. 😉
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 27, 2020 ALMOST THERE!!!! 😁💯 (well, except for the damnnnn Body! 😢) THIS has been my original goal for this Car. I feel like I've accomplished at least that!!! 👍👍 It really IS a SLOP-LESS Tamiya TT-02 Chassis!!
Carmine A 2046 Posted September 28, 2020 CRAP!!!! 😖😖 SO glad that the A Parts Tree set comes in DOUBLES!! 😊💯 Just waiting on the Yeah Racing Steering Rack Kit - which has left the Chinese Coast!!! Should be soon... And of course a FREAKING Body!!! 😞
TurnipJF 9113 Posted September 29, 2020 Looking good so far! The mixture of colours also add a bit of extra interest - much more eye-catching than a plain black car. Hope to see it joining the postal racing scene soon!
