Pilotguy604 3 Posted October 12, 2020 Back into the hobby recently and I got the Re-Re Turbo Optima as a birthday gift. It's a beautiful kit. I had the original T.O. back in the day. The manual recommends 5000-30000 diff oil (which is not included). Wonder what experienced builders here would recommend for the front and rear diffs? I assume those numbers are CST (manual doesn't specify units) I'll be mainly bashing with it on grass, gravel and some packed dirt (BMX park) mixed with tarmac of course. Power will be a 2S Lipo to a Tamiya Sport Tuned (for now, may go brushless eventually). Thanks in advance!
MICHAELs TopForce17 586 Posted October 12, 2020 i am was in same place as you but with the rere ultima and i went for 15000cst. for the turbo optima some put 5000 front and 7000-10000 in rear. local hobby shops should also carry diff oil. https://www.amainhobbies.com/team-associated-silicone-differential-fluid-2oz-5000cst-asc5453/p453215?v=18591
sosidge 624 Posted October 12, 2020 Generally you'd go with a lighter oil in the rear compared to the front, it makes the car safer to drive. I have no idea how the Kyosho diffs feel with different oils, I'd probably run 5k in the rear and something heavier in the front to start with. But if you are just bashing with limited power, I don't think you will get into huge trouble if you have the same oil all round.
Mrowka 496 Posted October 12, 2020 I did 15K in the rear differential, 10K in the front. This gets a result prone to tail-sliding, which is a good or bad thing, depending on what you like. With alignment at factory specs, it had power oversteer well nigh undrivable. With a bit more front toe-out, it is fun and easily controlled. Others have reported good results with 10K in front and 7K in the rear.
