Bash 356 Posted October 17, 2020 Got one of these with a two grasshoppers that I bought recently. Did a little googling, but I couldn't find much information about it. It has a red endbell and I think it has a bearing on the output side of the motor. Could someone give me a comparable modern motor in terms of speed and would it be suitable to use in a grasshopper? mud4fun 1696 Posted October 17, 2020 Takes me back! From what I've read that is a sprint motor intended for vintage Group C style fast racing cars so probably not that suitable for a grasshopper buggy BUT having said that one of my daughters runs a Tamiya Super Stock RR sprint motor in her thundershot albeit with the smallest pinion size she can fit. It works OK but nothing special, not very torquey compared to even a stock silver can. We just used it because it was laying around and we needed a motor at the time as her silver can had died. Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted October 17, 2020 https://tamiyabase.com/?option=com_joodb&view=article&joobase=14&id=851&Itemid=780 Looks to be in very nice condition - quite rare, dates back to early 1980's
Bash 356 Posted October 17, 2020 Thanks for the info, it looks like it has hardly been used since the brushes and commutator look to be in great shape. Did some searching on ebay and only found listings for the endurance tuned version which has a blue endbell. I'm probably going to sell it if it works well since the GH has very limited gearing options and all of my on-road cars have decent motors in them already. If it doesn't I'll put it on display on my desk since I think it looks great for whatever reason
