...does anybody else like the smell of old Tamiyas? You know the smell I mean - you unpack an old chassis that arrives in the post and it has that odd sort of smell - very hard to describe, but I associate it with old radio controlled cars. Must be something to do with the old rubber/plastic/metal bits...

Have you ever smelt something and known that it triggers a memory, but not known what that memory was? I had one of those and it took several years before I could make the link...it was some dried flowers I'd smelt in the States about 10 years previously!

Me too!! [:D]

I think my record was about 25 mins for Holiday Buggy and .. cant remember what a SRB would take. One day I was working in the shop leading up to Christmas, I spent ages with a guy and his sons trying to sell them a bunch of SRB's. When they left, the shop owner told me off for wasting too much time and them. Anyway and hour or so later they were back with the cash... 4x RR and 4x SS and 2x Rangers! Plus cash for me if I could build them in 48 hours. Now that was boring!!

Now did I have a smug face on when I stuffed the cash in the till [:D][:D]

PS - After more than 21 years since playing with RC cars, I got of my car at Mendip Race Track (nr WSM, uK) to the noise and smell of those little 2-strokes. I am hooked again [8)]

I heard that smell is made by Mr. Tamiya himself after eating an enormous amount of Taco bell. Rumor has it that he makes the smell in each and every individual kit and it is shrinkwrapped immediately to keep it air tight for many stinky years to come. [:P]

Honestly, it is a great smell that reminds all of us of our very first Tamiya and keep us all young at heart. [;)]

Ah Ferris, the smell of two stroke. Its not particularly the nicest smell. But its a hooks you in. I had a Suzuki RGV 250, a race bike with lights and indicators. Mine actually was an ex-race bike before I put it back together with road fairing. Everywhere I turned up I smelt like I had just been cutting the grass. But the smell and sound while tuning it (these bikes need this done alot) is a addictive, almost as much as the sound of a ported rotary engine. (-basically anything that revs over 10,000)

My younger brother has a modified Suzuki RM 250 motorcross..... the smell will always be around.

But I still strongly remember openning my Wild Willy and 959 when I was a kid, the smell of birthdays.

Theo,

I know, but sometimes I can't resist.[:I]

I think badword for me would be an eternity of driving a Tyco Turbo Hopper with a battery that just won't die.[:(]

I sure like the smell, must look crazy sniffing those kits but i dont care!

Remember my father said it´s a rubber like smell when we opened my new Subaru Brat box back when they came out. And that he was impressed by the feel of the tires, soft and all.
