An M-06 chassis might just get my juices going. I love the Renault Alpine, Alfa Romeo and my Pumpkin body will also fit

I'm pretty happy, though I've not got that much Tamiya in my collection compared to vintage competition cars.

Tamiya wise I feel like I'm missing:

- XV-01 (or a rally spec M chassis build)

- TA-07 RR / MSX

Or

- TB-05 Pro / or the new R

If I get the TA-07 before the TB-05 then I might just build a TT-02S to make sure there's a shaft drive touring car in the fleet and not bother with TB-05

I'd like a TC-01 and M08 as well, but not sure I'd run them enough and already have an M07R...

Sitting at 20 cars atm, not all tamiya, and I've just moved house, so they've been in boxes for a few months.

With not having much time on my hands this year, projects haven't really happened as much as I'd have liked (although still managed a few! 😁) , and run time has been limited due to, world events, I'm wondering if I needed as many cars, ones I'd kind of forgotten i had, means they can go?

Anyway, while contemplating what to keep and what to sell, a DT02 Holiday buggy appeared on a Facebook sales site, so that arrives soon.....🤦‍♂️

I got a mention on the wife’s forum under the ‘how many kits does your husband have and how willing are you to give him the boot over it?’ thread.

And how many would it take?

I’ve got a new built M-06 in the trades section that might fit the bill.

I'm very happy at the moment but also very frustrated ..... I have 34 cars (tamiya/schumacher and Kyosho) and for the first time in at least 5 years all of them are finished, painted with working electrics and all of them run !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But on the downside..... now I have nothing to work on so I have to buy more cars then I'll be swamped with projects untill they are all finished and then I'll be despaired again and I'll have to buy some more..... it's a never ending vicious circle but I love it :D

You need to crash more, then you're never without something to work on. When I used to run my cars regularly, I would take out at least 3-4 every time, so I would come with at least 1 still running. Something would always get crashed, or a part would drop off, or something would disintegrate from the application of too much power (I 'm probably the only person to try putting a 1/8 scale brushless motor onto a model with a king hauler 3 speed in it, run it on 3S, and get wheelies changing up into 2nd gear :)

No I do.    I break lots of parts but I also suffer from parts hoarding so I always have at least 5 front wishbones in advance.... sometimes I even take parts that I know will fall off or break with me when I go out and repair them on the spot !!!

But I will have to try running 3s setups in my more fragile cars to keep myself occupied ! Thanks for the tip 🤣

That’s a great idea and one that crossed my mind and then I remembered why I’m selling the M-06.

Moving house in April and needed to clear the surplus kit out of the wardrobes 😳

So sadly on this occasion I have to say no thank you.

I have found that most of my collection ( 50 cars as of yesterday) is made of deals i found along the way.  Just really well priced stuff that may or may not be hard to find.  I paid close attention to some of the 4 series cars, the a4 dtm rere, the r32 hks rere etc.  I found guys selling stuff for dirt prices too..  80 bucks for a brand new gravel hound, 95 for an ff01 never run. A tb04 with a bunch of hopups, never run, 120 bucks... Then just rare stuff you dont really see in canada.

ta03 pennzoil skyline with in box hop ups NIB

tb02 drift NIB

cc01 YJ with LED kit NIB

repsol escort ta02 NIB

Somehow have 6 ta03's in various forms now.. not even sure why lol

Anyway, point is, many things are from my childhood that i wanted again, some i just wanted now.

Am I happy with my collection?

Let's see...

Since 2016, been wanting to go back to surface RC. But I was hesitant because I didn't want to spend again like we did back then (2005-2007). I was out RCing with my group 3 times a week. Mid week night races (Wednesday), practice on Fridays and Sunday races (whole day). I was spending about $150 a week on a minimum. Tires, motor, spare parts, food, etc. So I retired from RC, sold my stuff and diverted into another hobby which was diecast models collection.

In January of 2014, I bought a 100 size 4-channel heli (v911). The after two months, I bought a 300 size 4-channel (v913). Then in August of the same year, I finally went for a 450 size 6-channel heli (v450D03). I enjoyed flying. My 450 is a 3D heli and is capable of doing lots of tricks, inverted flights, flips, and 3D stunts but I wanted a realistic flight so that's what I had practiced for especially take off and landing. I also bought a simulator (after breaking several props, main gears, tail boom, tail props), and kept practicing there before testing actual flights. It helped me improve but still not good enough like the pros does. I went on to fly my helis occasionally until 2016. When I transferred to a new place, I didn't have time to fly anymore and was busy with work and my small business. Still I wanted to get myself a rally car and have been reading about which is best. The XV-01 always popped out in discussions.

Fast forward 2018, I retrieved my dad's CC-01 from my parents house and my FF-01. Then I got a chance to buy two FF-03 kits at a bargain. A Pro and another stock car. Both were practically new. They were built, ran twice in a garage and displayed. The owner had too many kits and decided to let go of the FFs. Then my RC addiction was back. I've started to order parts. One led to another. I was so focused on the FF-03 Pro rebuild. My goal was to upgrade it "a little" but eventually became more than I had planned. I bought another used FF-03R. Used this as a donor and transferred the parts I needed. I also started ordering parts from RCMart. The Pro became an R and then more. That's why I called it the Pro-R

2019, more than halfway to the FF-03 build, I decided to start working on my late dad's CC-01. Plan was just to make it a runner. But it turned out the only the main chassis and gears remain original and have replaced/upgraded almost every part of it. I even customized the suspension for better travel. While these two builds was going on, I had so much FF-03 parts and could build another modified chassis. So I did and decided to make it into a rally car. Surprisingly, it performed as a proper rally car. Then a couple of months later, I purchased a new and cheap kit from LRP (s10 Blast TC). A 4wd touring shaft driven car. Like the other kits, I eventually customized and upgraded it fully but the main lower deck remains a tub and use it as a 4WD rally car/basher.

This year, I didn't have plans of purchasing kits as I was very much satisfied with what I have (I thought). Until a friend decided to let go of his used but fresh condition XV-01. Three of my other friends have purchased new XV-01 kits and I didn't want to be left with none so I got the used XV. Again, I started ordering parts from RCMart and our local hobby shop. Two months later, my XV-01 was heavily upgraded and it was time for testing. Gosh! This chassis is simply amazing. All the reviews I've read and watched are all true. It will drive the way you want it to drive. The performance is just something I am really impressed with. Probably the most enjoyable RC car I have driven (including my RCs from the past, Brat, Frog, Astute, FF-01, TA-04R, HPI Pro4). It can drive like an on-road car and can drive as a rally car. Slide it, drift it or run it straight and behaved in chicanes and tight corners, it will do. Like I said, it's an amazing chassis.

Last August, my friend (who I serviced his 1200 turntable) offered to pay me a crawler kit instead. The offer was good so I took it. Besides, I've always wanted to build another class 1 crawler so that I could use it every time my daughter and I go for light crawling and trailing with the CC-01. An MST CFX with Jimny J3 body. Like the rest of my kits, I have upgraded this one too. Put every upgrade I wanted for it. The last upgrade parts have already arrived yesterday and will install them soon. As a builder, improving these kits and making them look beautiful is half the fun. Stock kits just don't cut it for me. Many people will argue that most of those upgrades are merely "bling" but to those who understand, know what the real purpose is. Some may not be as necessary but to my (our) sight, it is. Hahaha!

I have two other planned kits. But have to wait until 2021. A 313mm (class 2) crawler and a vintage buggy. Originally, I wanted The Wild One. It was my dream kit in the 80s which I never had. But after seeing beautiful Tomahawks and Turbo Scorpions here, I decided to go for Kyosho on the vintage kit instead. They are just better designed (not over engineered), better quality parts and looks really sexy. Both kits will also be upgraded as I have planned.

I went back to this hobby and have more fun than stress. Serious racing is stressful and very costly. Bashing, trailing, occasional track racing, and building are the real fun.

So am I happy?

Indeed! ;)

I only have 7 in my collection and I am always looking for what to get next. I was going to get one for running just in the winter months, something to bash a round like a buggy or something along those lines, but I have promised my self to get the ones I have to the level that I want them before I get any thing new.

I only have one shelf queen and one that I have retired due to a striped head on one of the screws and these are as followed,

1. M05

2. M06

3. M07

4. M08 shelf queen.

5. TT01D

6. TT02 retired

7. TT02 this is a 2WD and is going to be a drift car

I would like to add a DT03 to this but going to Finnish getting everything to how I want it before moving on to the next one and I can't see me stopping until I have run out room or money.

In the two weeks since I said I was happy with ours I am now tempted to retract that comment.... :D

We have since started to build an Egress and another Avante2001, the kids have ordered a DT02 and a DT03 for Xmas and I'm about to order a Schumacher race buggy.... So I'm now back in the position of having to support loads of different chassis types.... Aaaarrrghhhh :(

Ok so if I don’t include my daughters Lunchbox I’m @ 10 models.

5 Vintage and 5 Rere/modern.

All pretty much shelf queen condition aside from 1 left to restore and 1 NIB which is up for sale.

I've been waiting to add to this thread as I wasn't sure what my answer would be :)

So, until I work out some really really clever means of making shelf space out of solidly confined walls I'm at my limit of display space, so I really can't consider adding to my collection just now. That said, in a practical world I reckon I'm pretty happy with my collection as it stands now. There were 4 cars I truly lusted after as a kid: Avante, Astute, Monster Racer and Sand Scorcher. I've finally got all of them in as near perfect condition as I'll ever reasonably achieve, and it's been sooooo much fun searching for all the rare parts and upgrades for them and restoring them, so from that perspective, I'm totally happy. The others in my collection have been either bargains I couldn't pass up (Wild Willy and Rough Rider) random dreamt up projects that spiralled (M-03/4, Uber Boomer) or modern stuff that I just loved the look of (Durga and CR-01.) Along the way there have been other restoration projects that I've thoroughly enjoyed fixing, modifying and displaying (Grasshopper 2, Brat, Madcap, FAV, Lunchbox, King Blackfoot and Midnight Pumpkin) that I've sold to new homes and a couple that were keen reminders that not everything on ebay is a bargain (Terra Scorcher Shocker)

If money were no object, I'd add a Porsche 959/Celica (probably the Celica) Fox (always had a little thing for them (stop sniggering in the back)) Blazing Blazer and a Hotshot/HS2 (undecided which) but I'm not desperate for any of them. If anything, I'm more likely to buy another Lunchie/Pumpkin.

The only thing out there that keeps tempting me that I may have to find room for one day is a Kyosho Turbo Ultima. However, my oldest friend just bought one, and he has a habit of buying things, leaving them in the boxes, eventually forgetting they are there and then selling them. He is also the person I've given a mint Terra Scorcher (not the one mentioned above - this was my childhood one I bequeathed to him when were young) the Grasshopper 2, 2/3rds of a Durga and a free paint job on his Scania. So I'm hopeful that one day the kindness will be returned......:D

I can help you scratch that itch with the Blazing Blazer 😂 when you have the capacity or feel you might want to tackle a resto of one.

Its the last model left languishing in the back of the wardrobe untouched- it’s a peach as well 😎

Not sure if I ever will be, but I've seen photos of some collections here which look to put mine to shame (that's what I keep telling myself).

I did recently move about 60% of my collection, and it weighed 1100kg.
