ploots 185 Posted November 7, 2020 Hi all I recently bought a tt02d off a fellow tc member,it has an Audi coupe body which I love as I always wanted a 1.1version but never had one, my plan was get a mk1 escort body and rs wheels for it as that's what I did have and will be getting a 1.1 again in the next couple of years, I'm now wondering if there's another chassis I could put the body on that has a bit more ground clearance than the tt02 as it will be run off road aswell Thanks Jeff
yogi-bear 2321 Posted November 7, 2020 I was doing one on a TA-02 chassis, but they could be harder to get these days. There is also the XV-01 chassis, which would probably give better performance too.
BuggyGuy 1106 Posted November 7, 2020 XV-01 is a good call I think - or keep the TT02 and make a little more off-road appropriate?
jonboy1 2943 Posted November 9, 2020 just in case you were interested in a TA-02 still: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-TA-01-Chassis-TA01-TA02-Escort-Cosworth-Spare-Parts-Full-Ball-Bearings/143830829278?hash=item217cfc48de:g:rLsAAOSwqtJfqBXq I have no link to this seller - just spotted it and remembered you asking about them
ploots 185 Posted November 9, 2020 Thanks for the link whats the TA01/02 chassis like, this car will be run fairly regular but not abused Thanks
yogi-bear 2321 Posted November 9, 2020 TA-01 is hard to get these days. TA02, there are one or two models that still use this platform, so parts are not too bad to get, plus things like hubs are shared to other chassis. I like TA02 mainly because I have a lot of vintage cars that used this chassis. I am not a serious driver, but have found them fun enough to drive and pretty reliable, particularly my GT4 Celica . Your other option is the TT-01 / TT-02 chassis, which seems to me Tamiya's goto chassis now. There are a ton of models with this chassis so parts should be a plenty, certainly lots of hop-ups and it uses more modern plastics.

I've got a tt02 but the ground clearance is not great for light off road use unless there's a way the ride height could be increased
yogi-bear 2321 Posted November 10, 2020 I'm sure you can, but I suspect it is limited in what you can get out of it. I've not done it myself as I prefer a more scale look. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.
yogi-bear 2321 Posted November 10, 2020 this just came up randomly in my YouTube feed, he gets a fair bit of ground clearance, 1
ploots 185 Posted November 10, 2020 Thanks for that I think I'm going to buy another tt02 chassis and follow what has just done that should give me what I'm after
Juls1 1661 Posted November 10, 2020 If your looking for a rally chassis the xv01 is the most realistic handling of any chassis on the market with its front engine layout it gives the most realistic slide characteristics both in looks and feel. Particularly when the body is ment to be rwd this comes further into play. while the TT02 can be made off-road ready, for what it is, it can never be made to drive like the xv01 does. The XV01 pivots on its front axle, much like a real 1:1 front engine car does. The issue with cars like TT02 and TA02 is they are mid/rear engined and that weight bias leads to the whole car unrealistically drifting in a sort of mid centric manner, while that’s fun, it’s not as fun as the car drifting in a more realistic manner as it does on the xv01. on the other hand rear weight bias chassis like TT02 and TA02 are easier to jump with less driver skills and input. So I guess it depends on what you want from the car.
