Mk2 escort

Recommended Posts

A first look at the Escort on the Tamiya Inc YouTube channel today.
Spin to 8:20 for the Escort but the fire dragon and scirocco are also shown.

Looks good though I do think there was a slightly bemused look on the presenters faces as if they didn’t get the Escort.?I think it will need some form of underpan to fill the gap between the back of the chassis and the rear of the body. For some reason they will not show pictures of its bottom! Looks like the spots could take leds

That does look good captured the realism very well,I would change the wheels though I prefer the rs alloys rather than the minilites that's on there

I beleive the shell is white? There are quite a few options with a white base.

yep it looks that way but white is not my fav colour that would only be good for a jam sandwich car  to me the only shell i have in white is my honda turbo

You can always use some polycarbonate body cleaner to wash out the white paint and the smoke from the windows and start again.

I'm debating if I'll get a kit or not.  I would like a white one but I also want to back it in black and not have smoked windows.  Entirely doable with some patience and masking tape but I'd probably be better off just waiting for the bodies to be released.

Those spotlights do look like they hold LEDs.  This car is going to look amazing with a little time and effort.  Can't believe they're sticking with using the red suspension parts in the kit though!

I think the smoke may be stickers?

It used to bug me that this shell was being supplied on a 4WD chassis, until I browsed a few full-size forums and found that not only is a 4WD conversion not at all unheard of amongst hobbyists using Sierra Cosworth or RS2000 components, but there is even at least one company (DJ Motorsport) that offers the conversion commercially.

Now I know of the existence of full-size 4WD MK2 Escorts, I feel much happier building a model one!

I like your thinking @TurnipJF. Too late for me though, I have a Monster Swift body to go on that chassis - I couldn't put it on my M05-RA for the same reason! The Escort will have to go on an M04 - classic chassis for classic body and I don't own an M06 or M08!

Will the Tamiya rally cockpit fit do you think. Will need to source some peaked open face driver heads. It seems that MCI have a range of 3D printed stuff including a suitable head.?if they are any good they seem quite cheap?

I thought that about the 3D printed parts at MCI too - but - you might want to check the scale of the parts - I got really excited about some of the car bodies and then realised they were 1/64 scale. Unsurprisingly the price rocketed up by the time I got to 1/10 scale. :( lovely models though

Looks like I need to get in contact with Fusion Hobbies. They had reserved payment on my credit card but it isn't showing at all now :(.  Ah well, there will only be a certain number of kits to go round in the first delivery to the UK.

TBH, it may be no bad thing if I have to wait for a later batch as I've bought an SCX10iii, a Porsche 924 body and a bunch of parts for the FTX recently!

Worth double checking with them, but the ‘pending’ payments only last a limited time. I usually have to re-auth the payment with them over the phone whenever I preorder anything with them. They don’t charge the card till they actually ship, so if it’s timed out they can’t charge. Joanne usually rings up though to sort the details when it comes time to pay.

What it also means that if you do need to cancel it, there’s no charge for them to refund the card.

Also noticed that Tamiya has a new esc 45070 Brushless Controller TBLE-04SR (sensored). I wonder if this is an update to the TBLE-02S maybe now it has voltage cuff off for those really new batteries called LiPo? ;)

It seems a simple tble-02s update, with 75A and no lipo support.

As the release date draws closer I’m starting to gather together necessary items to complete the car. I have a bearing set, aluminium prop shaft, several potential wheels and tyres and rc stuff. I have been looking at the YR full suspension pack as an option? Any thoughts. My main concern with it is its blue and I think that may spoil the look of the car. Having said that red steering knuckles ain’t brilliant 😠. The other thing I am thinking about is diffs. I intend to use the stock ones but the question is how to set them up to give the most realistic handling. When I ran my rally beetle I had the front diff very stiff and the rear loose. It seemed to work though I didn’t run it much.

I wonder why the body comes pre painted 🤔 doesn't look a difficult  job just being white!

As this is not the only prepainted car in the current Tamiya line-up I would say this is for the people how don't want to paint an RC car body. I guess many people who have not been in touch with RC cars before find it interesting to build one but are deterred when they hear they have to paint it with spray cans.

I think you’re right. Even on this forum there are many people who love building but struggle when it comes to cutting and painting bodies. They are doing a clear bodyset for those who want to do their thing. Keep the white one as a basher and let your artistic talent loose on the clear one!
