As this is not the only prepainted car in the current Tamiya line-up I would say this is for the people how don't want to paint an RC car body. I guess many people who have not been in touch with RC cars before find it interesting to build one but are deterred when they hear they have to paint it with spray cans.

And it saved a few quid on paint👍

I'm guessing this thread gets to 10 pages before the Escort even gets released😂

We're up to almost the end of page 9. Your new name should be Nostradamus!!

I pre-ordered one and crossing my fingers I get it in Feb.

Do you all think that the Escort is a niche model only catering to a few? Or will it be popular? I'm from the US so I don't think it's as iconic or known here (especially rally) but when I was a kid, our neighbor had a modified white Escort mk2 with fender flares, minilite wheels, roll cage, stripped interior, etc. and I thought it was cool.

It seems like a body someone has put out because they think it will be popular rather than some corporate branding exercise (Mazda 3 TT02).  More classic rally and road cars on the m-chassis would be great.  I don't think they'll find another body as popular as the Mini was, but there's so many great cars they could do.

I'd also like to see them put out some decent sticker sheets for once.  Race car numbers, stripes, window banners, sponsors, and so on.  I'd be ok with their generic sponsor brands rather than genuine ones if necessary.  Something to create personalized race cars, instead of the dragons, flames and weird anime girls stuff they've done in the past that only seems to suit the off-road buggies they no longer sell.

Very popular in the UK and some parts of Europe, also Australia, New Zealand, probably South Africa too.

Just about every man and his dog, his friend, his brothers friend, and his brothers friends dog, had an Escort in the above countries. It was the car equivalent of the CF Bedford, and the Ford Transit.

I would be very suprised if it doesn't sell out straight away, painted body or not.

Yup, my hand is up.... 2L Escort Rally Pack. My second car, great fun, plenty went wrong, but as long as I kept replacing the broken seat rails (from the rusted out floor), all was good!

And yes, it looked so much better once I removed the overriders from the front bumperettes... and the rear louvre fell off!

What a great car.....

My Dad had MK2 and MK3 Cortinas then later on two Sierras (couple of Bluebirds in between) and three Mondeos before a Focus.

He did have a Mk6 Escort Ghia X before the first Mondeo.

I was quite enamoured with it as it was fully loaded and toyed with the idea of buying it when Dad's lease was up (it would have been my second ever car) but he hated it and was adamant that at 70k the car was at the end of its useful life!

I've had a Focus and currently roll a 2012 C-Max.

I guess I fit the target profile for this one?

My folks seemed to be attracted to the bread and butter type. My father worked for a Ford dealership when we were very young. A 1.1l baby blue Mk2 was the first I remember, then a Sherwood green 1.3 'L' Mk3, which my mum got DICed (DUI) in, so she got a blue 'L' mk3 to drive in while she had no licence 🤦‍♂️, then sold that and bought a 1.6 Sierra SW (then a 316i E30).

My first car was a white 1.1 litre Mk2 four door.  Cost me $800 which, when I think about it now, was about twice the price of the King Cab I had bought a few years earlier.  I don't have any photos of it but that car seems indelibly etched into my brain.

I knew a couple of people who got much faster cars, like the Mazda 323/Familia GTX turbo four-wheel-drive imports which were becoming all the rage, but I learned to enjoy driving a slow-car fast.  At least one person I know ended up sticking his car, a very quick modified Toyota Corolla TE37, through the front of a shop plate-glass window on the main street late at night trying to be a hero mere weeks after he'd bought it.  I may have once or twice had to push the Escort out of a hedge it had entered backwards on a country back-road corner but I think it stopped me becoming another idiot (mostly).

I saw this yesterday in the February release section of the Tamiya web site. Would make a really interesting model. Deep dish wheels like that may cause them an issue though

Ever since learning about these Cars here in the Colonies (mainly because of Top Gear), I've been fascinated. I've also questioned, with animosity, WHY didn't Ford give us THIS - instead of the other CRAP that they assumed we would like?? 😖

And the Escort they sent US!!!!??? 😖😖😠😞 Abroad it was the MkIV... WE got them with a MISERABLE 1.4L Kent with an INSANE Carburetor, supposedly for Emissions - that on a good day, might squeeze out 48hp!!

The few lucky ones got a 5-Speed, which made them semi bearable... The MAJORITY were with the ATX Automatic Transaxle. On its own, bulletproof Tranny..... But the Tall Gearing made the already wheezer of an Engine go from irritatingly slow to Insane inducing!!!🐌

We DID appreciate getting the Capri! Nice, FUN Car with good Handling, and the 2.8 was quite quick!! It made a nice alternative, when the Mustang got BIG, slower, and more expensive.

But I still believe that the RWD Escorts would have sold well here (with a 1.6 being the MINIMUM Engine size)

The Market here in the 70's was blind to the fact that less and less of us wanted 2.5 TON LTDs with 7L Engines - especially after the 1973 Oil Embargo!

At least we're finally catching up!! 😉

About 15 years ago I've had an red 1976 four door saloon for a few months as a daily driver. Bought it for 350€ with the plan to restore it. But it was so destroyed by rust that I sold it on as the repair would have outrun my capabilities in car repairs. The A-pillars for example were almost gone. But the time I owned it was great. Lovely car.
