As we enter December, the coming of the new year isn't far off. So, as we have in threads past, what are your RC plans/goals for the 2021? For my part, I still have a ton of restorations that need bodies painted up, but at least this past year, I collected all the bodies and decals I need. Now, I have to wait for Tamiya paint to be more readily available again. I would also like to build the perfect Clod Buster-based truck for me. Many have been done before and I'll borrow ideas from here and there plus my own to create one to suit my taste. I also want to build my own monster truck. I've fallen in love with old Kyosho monster trucks so the plan is to build one from scratch that mimics much of their basic layout/architecture with modern/available parts. Branching out to other brands like Schumacher, if finances eventually allow it, is hopefully in the cards. I'd probably like to add more Kyoshos to the fold as well. So what do you all have planned?

Finish of my Juggernaut 2 rebuild, which is turning more of a resto-mod.

I've also got a 6wd scratch build with walking beams half finished, which I'm trying to find enthusiasm for building.

Not much else apart from that. Wait for Tamiya to surprise me with a kit I really want to build that I can afford, or wait for Kyosho to re-release an Optima Mid Custom Special.

2021 will be my year of "getting back into it" after being away from the hobby for, let's say, 20 years. I did have a brief return about 10 years ago but everything went back into storage after a month or so until this summer.

So this year I'll be working on getting 6 Tamiyas back to running condition. Thus far I've gotten new NiMHs to give the old NiCds a rest, and a new 2.4Ghz radio is on the way with enough receivers for 5 out of 6 cars (the 6th will run on vintage 75mhz AM gear). Also doing bearings, tires, and maybe a few missing bodies if I can get all the chassis mechanically sound. The goal is to be able to charge a battery, grab a car off the shelf, and go have fun without worrying as much about breakdowns as I had to when I was a kid.

Should be a good year for me RC-wise as we plan on moving & I might even get a space I can call my own, a garage or garden building for a Hobby room / work area where I can leave projects out will be great, unpacking and repacking in an evening on the kitchen table will be a thing of the past!

I have gotten some of my buddies amped up about this stuff again... hoping to have backyard race in the fall of 2021.

I have DF-03 in the box and bought a original. Boomerang to bring back to life.

Somthing else I am pumped about is my buddy grabbed his old RC10GT out of his parents basement. He could never get it to run right so it looks new. We are going to do an electric conversion to it.

I want to get a shell painted up for my resto Hornet. I also want to get some more Deans plugs and swap my 1/16 revo over to deans plugs. ( a simple task, but I need to get around to it )

Longer term I’d like to build a crawler/ trail truck.

Scratch-building bodies. I have a whole pile of scrap plastic here from my job, and a few body-less chassis. I was trying to think of what I wanted to buy for them, and the answer, after thinking long and hard about it, is... nothing. I'd rather make something, so that I can do something that no one else has. I'm not sure what those will be yet, but I'm going to have fun trying out a few things. Some ideas I have are: Monteverdi Safari, Fiat Campagnola, Austin-Healey Sprite, Dodge Dart, Pontiac Fiero...

And that's on top of the project I already want to do, which is the next car in the "The Race Forever" Choose Your Own Adventure book. I've already done the Land Rover, so now I need to build its competiton: a Toyota Land Cruiser. Commercial bodies are available, I know, but I want to make it out of .019 aluminum sheet like the Land Rover is, so they match. I have the aluminum, and I've downloaded drawings; time to get to work.

I may or may not get around to building an RC chassis for a big old Monogram 1/8 scale Chevy Camaro model I found earlier this year, as well. If I need a break from making bodies, I'll work up a chassis for it. I have a few ideas.

As for purchases, the only thing I really want to buy is an RJ Speed kit of some kind, probably a Legend, to stash away for later. I love the old Bolink stuff, and I really want to support RJ Speed, but I don't really need another direct-drive car. But I like the idea of having one NIB, just waiting for later. It can keep my Bigwig kit company, which is serving the same purpose for Tamiya.

In (hopefully) order of completion:

Finish up the original hornet I bought: Needs a body and a few small parts, hopefully will be a runner before I go to the beach later this month.

Traxxas XO-1: Needs electronics, tires, a body, and some other parts. Main factor will be how quickly I can find a body, they are very scarce now.

TT-02: In the process of turning into a speedrunner for the silvercan class, only should need a slippery body, my patience to do the complex livery that I have planned (March 83G red lobster), and a 4s lipo

Another crawler: Thinking CC-02 since I found a body that I really like that fits on it (UAZ-452).

Something absolutely ridiculous and fun: I saw that kamtec sells a reliant three-wheeler kit that looks utterly amazing. Also considering a drag car of some sort since I have plenty of Slash parts, a dancing rider, or an RJ speed stock car.

I'm sure other things will be added as the year goes on: 2020 had lots of awesome new products, and based on what I'm hearing, 2021 should be no different

I remember that book from when I was younger. It's what got me interested in off-road racing. I loved those series of books.

The Sprite or Fiero would be cool. My dad is a British sports car buff and has one in the garage that he's been "working on" for the last 20 years. I've always wanted to convert his "parts car" to electric, I think it would be the perfect little runabout. I've always liked the Fiero too (shame on GM for NOT putting a turbo in it!) and it would make a good 1:1 electric as well. I bet they would both look awesome as RCs!

I loved that Choose Your Own Adventure book too! I think that's the only one of that series that I kept from my childhood. Not that I need another project, but it would be fun to try to build it out as a mod for GTA...

I don’t want to hijack the thread, but I loved Choose your own Adventure books. I don’t remember that Race Forever title, though. However, it was a Baja 1000 picture book from a Scholastic Publishing ( remember those ?) book sale which got me into off road racing.

For our friends  not in North America Scholastic Books used to have these flyers they’d disrribute to Grade schools a couple times a quarter. We would order our books, almost forget about them , and then have surprise joy when our orders arrived.

We had the same thing over here in the uk late seventies early eighties (that hurts to admit!!!) pretty sure it was scholastic that ran ours as well. Once a term you`d get your little catalogue of what was available, tick your box pay your money then wait. Seemed like forever but in reality it was only a fortnight or so. I seem to remember getting some joke book and the secret diary of Adrian Mole and a star wars annual we all went daft for

My goal for 2021 is going to be 'stay small' - finish my GCM Racing JK trail truck and then move on to something new.

We'll see how that pans out. I keep buying parts for other projects...

I remember Scholastic book fairs well. Pretty sure I went through the entire Encyclopedia Brown series that way...

Get round to building my Top Cat. Bought for the last lockdown but thankfully I was able to work through it in between getting and beating covid! Also moving so may wait till that's completed and I finally have a proper large and heated man cave 😁

Still crossing everything that Kyosho re release the Optima Mid but I'm definitely getting an Escort Mk2. Reckon a rear wheel drive with a gyro would be fun.

Recently picked up the hobby again and i have The Grasshopper - Top Force - Agrios, in other words Buggy`s and a Monster Truck, i Really liked Agrios an Amazing kit. I was thinking waiting for Egress re-release but im also thiking i should get a road RC or F1 RC as i do not have any, found out that TT-02 is the one to go for, i would probably go for a Rally car as i am a fan of Rally Simualors (specially the old Richard Burn Rally, moded ofc on PC).

But i just finished the Amazing Agrios, so for the first part of the new year i will be fine adjust this kit (have a few upgrades) and also get a better understanding of taking care of my batteries and how they work as i just also bought SkyRC charger  (stil waiting for it to arriwe though), before i just had a "in Wall" charger that only beep when battery is supose to be finished.

Get my truck built, get a trailer for it, possibly one of the Hercules Hobbies ones as they look good for the money. Try and get enough together for a Mu, the MK2 essie or possibly just convert my Jimny chassis to take the mk body, finally finish the Bowler project and the corresponding build thread, and get another Euro truck. Think that should just about do it this year. Be interesting to have a thread at the start of December 2021 and see how far we`ve all got with our plans, hopefully everyone will still be with us and in the best of health

Most of my projects are well-documented in my project thread, so I won't repeat them here (nobody has that much spare time).  There's a bunch of other stuff up on the storage shelf that I need to go through, no doubt more projects will come from those.

So that's one job - go through all my stuff, sort it, catalog it, use it.  It's the perfect job to do during the winter months while we can't go out anywhere, but it's cold and wet outside, so I'd rather at least wait until a warm, dry day in late winter to do that.

Currently I'm making no plans to buy any more cars next year.  With my wife on long-term sick we're living on reduced income, so until she's well enough to work again I'll have minimal disposable income.  Besides, I now have more cars and parts than I can store, so I really should think about letting some stuff go.

What I'd really like to do is more racing.  I realised at the end of 2019 that I enjoy the social aspect of RC more than anything else - being out in the fresh air, camping, eating burnt food and racing around tarmac and astro with other fans, so I made plans in 2020 to do more racing than ever.  Of course the pandemic got in the way, but in the end the summer was a fantastic one, with lots of close racing and even a sunny camping weekend for the Revival.  There was so much demand for outdoor racing that my two favourite clubs promised to run winter championships - which the 2nd lockdown put a stop to.

We're out of lockdown now, and according to the BRCA's website outdoor racing is allowed in all regions of England, but so far none of the clubs are planning to open before Christmas.  I'm tentatively booked into the first race mid-Jan, but we can't be sure there won't be further lockdowns in Jan, Feb and even March, so it might be some time before I hit the track again.  I'd love to get in just one day's racing while it's still legal.

So, to be totally honest, my plans for next year are the same as they were this year - get out, do more.  Assuming I can.  Otherwise, who knows?  Stay in the workshop and keep finishing off these builds, I suppose.

Theres a couple of projects I'd like to draw a line under next year.

Orange Blossom Special 2 pulling truck build, but the body went down to Kamtec for some, re-modelling, and the years events have slower their progress somewhat.

Bullhead only needs a hole cut in the bonnet, and the V8 sticking in, plus the LED flames etc wiring to the 3rd channel, (plus I've seem the V8 engine noise simulators are quite cheap.....)

Lunchbox's to have a double wishbone front conversions , and make 4 bar rears.

I want to spend more time with the Club. Really excited about the prospect of a full all weather track (astro turf), so should mean more weekends racing (and working shifts, means more chance of actually making a race meet!!)

The 1:1 project needs some love too, really need to get the thing MOT'd and get it drinking the petrol, while its still available!?!?

Hard to say really - with the world being in such an uncertain state these days, it would be nice to say I'll be attending more meetings and club events, but whose to say there will be any? As for additions to the fleet, I'd like to add an older monster truck to precede my WR-01 and WT-01, as well as perhaps a GF-01 to sit between my WR-02 and G6-01. Then there is the MF-01X, currently represented in my fleet as a Jimny light trail rig, but hopefully to be represented in rally trim too at some point. I am also hoping to spend more time on this 'ere forum, as I think I have enough experience to be able to answer newbie questions in a reasonably helpful manner, and it would be nice to give something back to the community.
