Tamiya Sand Rover 2011 - New Arrival

Just had this delivered, bought from Ebay & delivered by the seller in person as local.

Great condition, although haven't fitted electrics yet, just has the servo.  Nothing appears broken.

Am tempted to change the colour to the iconic orange but still looks great in red and the red is the actual plastic, it hasn't been sprayed.  I thought these came with a white plastic bodyshell.

Got a 540 motor to put in if its still got the 380 for extra speed.

The decals seem to be a mixture/custom but work well.

Any other fans of this re-re? 

I didn't like it for a long time due to the extra holes, front and back, for the suspension but getting used to it.  Also the DT-02 chassis is my favourite for stability and so easy to install the battery.  Have read comments that the original wasn't that good, not sure why, maybe the chassis/handling.

Looks great, I've seen somewhere on YouTube with holiday buggy shell on he's altered the front shocks looked an easy job to do then put mesh over the body holes it finished it very nicely

Thanks, not sure I could match it up with the original red plastic without re-painting & have finally accepted the suspension holes.

Unless I could make the front suspension cut-outs look the same as the original body shell (1979), smooth & the same body shell colour I don't see the point.

Yes they came in white.

What you have there is a kumamon buggy 'sand rover' body, that came as red plastic in the kit.....

Thanks for that. I found some pictures of a red plastic body shell on Google but they had a bear or something in the driver seat, couldn't find any with the cowboy driver.

Its now just a skin and a head in the trunk. On its way to being a fireside rug.

Yes kumamon is the bear

The cowboy was also included in the kumamon kit to add or replace if wanted

That clears that up, many thanks.

Also it is fitted with black oil filled shocks instead of the blue friction shocks & possibly a 540 motor (the 380 seems to have a smaller diameter & needs an adapter to fit inside the housing, the motor fitted is normal size), were these upgrades included in the kumamon kit?  Cheers

No, someones added them after it came with the small 380 as standard and with spring holders not dampers

Hopefully the person who did the other upgrades also swapped the plastic bushings for metal bearings in the gearbox, although I've got some on standby, just in case.
