Willy finally got his car painted today.

I might add stars later, but for now this is how the 5844 Pajero looks.

My son (8) finished his Manta today. It was a proud moment for me, as he built it almost completely on his own, including paint and decals.

Thank you @svenb. Paint scheme was inspired by Tamiya Legends YouTube channel. He did a Manta in white, with black accents, and we thought it looked really sharp.

Thanks @Ferruz and @Re-Bugged. This was his 3rd “build” and I think his experience started to show. First kit was a Lunchbox, that was mostly me while he watched. Then a TT02 where he did about 50%. I think the Manta Ray was a natural progression and he surprised me with how much he did on his own. A little help on the wiring connections, a few screws that needed extra “muscle”, and that was about it from me.

Awesome job @Juhunio. Always enjoy seeing your finished work. Are those decals just a color variation from stock? I’m a big fan of non box-art, with a nod to the original design.

Cheers! Yeah they're repro stickers from MCI where I just changed all the colours to suit what I had in mind :)

Very nice @Juhunio. I have a Hornet with the same paint and sticker colour scheme. If only I could ever finish applying the stickers...

Took my DT02 Nissian Titan out on its first run. It's stock besides bearings and the wheels/tires. It's a blast, the tires don't have as much as grip as I thought but it does lead to tons of cool slides and doughnuts.

The Manta Ray absolutely looks awesome in white - Glenn was right that the decals get lost in PS12 silver. Good for you @Room335 for getting your son into the hobby at a young age. If he built the car himself you've got a good little mechanic on your hands. In another 8 years he'll want a REAL project car ;)

I finally wrapped the 80s Beetle this weekend. For those that haven't tried it - BUY SOME TAMIYA MASKING TAPE - the stuff is amazing. No more shaky-hand-trim-lines!

Also threw together my Fire Dragon. I literally bought this one because I had a restored Thunder Dragon that needed black rims/tires, but I must admit I'm a little disappointed in the build. Both sets of bevel gears in the transmissions had a lot of molding issues. I had to trim nearly every tooth with a sharp blade to remove excess material or the gearboxes were VERY notchy. Sad.

But it's going to sit on a shelf anyway so I don't know what my problem is. LOL

Lovely car. I like that plain white look. I will definitely get one if they will ever be re-re-released. Or maybe a used one, if one appears.

Thanks. I have to say with my limited aging vision, painting the window trims cleanly took a very painstaking effort and would never want to paint this body ever again.   haha   I mean I love how it turned out and it was worth it since this is the original Willy's Wheeler, but one should not have to work this hard just to paint trims..!

I honestly recommend getting the XB (RTR) version if you can find one.  I may have bought the last new one off eBay last week.. been asking around for another one and while the stores have them on their store front, they are out of stock..  Even for those with the original Wheeler you can use the RTR body as it's still got the holes for the roof bracket.  Just need to move the roof bracket over and plug the re-re's rear body mount holes with some white plugs.

@Willy iine I recently upped my hobby eyeglasses to 20% magnification lol. Hoping my near sight doesn't get weaker anytime soon

Sounds good!   I used that headband magnifier thing while painting the Wheeler body.  It worked well, but it strains my eyes a bit so could only do one trim at a time.

Atleast my wife did not make fun of my work after it was done.  LOL.  Actually I had my son look at it before showing my wife.

I have tried using magnifier,  in addition to eye strain, I don’t have good coordination with it lol.. my other eye messes me up. So I opted for prescription glasses 🤦🏻

This was an XB RTR, but since I modded it a little to get the stance and handling I wanted, this is somewhat a product of my own making so wanted to share.  This is the actual driving height and there is no rubbing.  The car handles tight space wonderfully!  Electronics was also swapped out except for the silver can.

I also painted a Matchbox City Turbo so wanted to share that as well to show that I put some effort into this post..

The stance is so much better now, they sit too high on the standard pogo sticks and look off to me.

I put Comical Grasshopper shocks on mine which dropped the stance and I was really happy with the overall look, but I never ran it so I don’t know if these shocks would have been up to the job for actually using running it.

This weekend was HOT - so I hid in the basement tinkering. (Ok...I probably would have done that anyway...)
IMEX wheels for Project Junkyard arrived and WOW do they pop.
Also got the chassis together for my 80s tribute Monster Beetle and started painting the interior bits. The entire build is based around the IMEX rims. Sad that I couldn't get a full set in 1 color...but I'mna make it work.

And no...the driver isn't an X-Wing Pilot

Thanks! :)

That body started as a Super Blackfoot unit that had seen better days...add some epoxy and primer and sanding and it was salvageable. The green was a Krylon color I couldn't walk past at the hardware store. Sometimes it's fun going off the Tamiya-Paint reservation.

The vintage IMEX rims just make the look - I was lucky enough to get a set still in packaging!

The Beetle is done (not sure if I've posted it?) and this weekend I finished going through a nearly new Terra Conqueror - I'm still waiting on a body set to come but for now, I can display it. It's heartbreaking to see how fragile these DF/TA cars get over time. The gear cases literally disintegrated in my hands, and I'm VERY easy on the screwdriver when building an old car.

MicroWilly... unlike the mini 4WD Wild WillyJr that sells for over $150, this car is actually an RTR (junk) RC car replica of a WW2.   I painted and modified a little bit to resemble my M38 collection.  And it was only $15 new and a few hours painting.     Using the same TS paints and enamels as my M38's.

I included my WildWillyJr for size comparison.
