Tier 4 Christmas Build

Recommended Posts

Guest

So ... with UK government royally ruining Christmas 5 days from the event. I will be home with the wife. Plenty of time for building. The question is what to build? Assuming I can get it, what should I build. What are you all going to build?

Happy Christmas (if thats your thing).

We've been isolating this week due to the little ones school bubble getting closed down, so we built this, it was supposed to be our Christmas build so now praying we can pick something up in the next few days to get stuck into.

If perhaps we can get something it would either be an XV-01 or a CC-01

Here our latest lockdown build! TA-03RS

I found CC-02 to be an enjoyable build to do - still looks like some stock in UK too.

I've got 2 kits to choose from in stock, thought I'd be away for Christmas so was saving them for Jan!

Got to choose between an XV-01 LDS with a lot of hopups, or the new Schumacher Mission FT

Bit late to order any bits now - so I hope I'm not missing anything I really need...!

Tier 4 means no grandparents or uncles to assist with entertaining sproglets, so my nib stash will wait for 2021.
I’ve a TC01 in progress, so I expect any time I can find will be spent with that, or stickering the backlog got touring car bodies I tried to build up in the warmer months :)

build wise, perhaps a prepainted big rig? A bit spendy, but a satisfying build and has the spray painting bit out of the way? Go wild and have the tipper version deliver Christmas snacks to you, bring back BigTrak memories? :D

(I’m tempting myself now!)

Tier 4 just means even less time to myself, work won’t stop until midday on Christmas Eve and I’ve no time off between Christmas and New Year in case I need the holiday when Mrs BC goes back to work (if she ever does, 9 months and counting).

The closest I have got to RC is just now - unloading the tumble drier in the garage and seeing how some of the screw heads in my trail truck have rusted :(.

EDIT: kicked myself to remind me I’m safe and well!

Hopefully my wife gets the hint and buys me a vanquish!......

Other that that I will be at work and rebuild what I already have.

And possibly finishing some projects if the post ever arrives 🤔

My RC plans are very simple-

1. Fit 2 Hop ups and paint the wheels and rear lights on the Honda City Turbo.

2. Run the Konghead with its recently fitted hop ups and try my recently bought lipo batteries out.

 3. Maybe disassemble the Wild One check for bearings and reassemble with the stock front bumper and silver can.

4. Not buy anything RC related 😂

The reality is I’m very unlikely to find the drive or motivation to do anything, to be totally honest.

But hopefully I’ll get some running in, rest and time with kids and wife.

Like lots plans have been thrown into disarray and work has been full throttle.

Not complaining, fortunate to have work, health and family.

I’m very aware of those less fortunate than me and think of them often.

Out in the sticks here, so we're going to have a solitary guest over a for Christmas day and still planning some outdoor walks with family come rain or shine as permitted by our tier rules.

All year I've been juggling work and childcare and now having to nursemaid a wife who is having some worsening health problems.  As a result we've had very little family time this year, so I've taken holiday from Thursday until 4th Jan and will spend most of it at home.  My projects list is still overflowing, and there's more still to add and loads I want to have done.  Most of it is workshop-only stuff so not very family friendly, but given the lack of socialising time this year my wife and I have agreed to swap childcare and workshop duties through the Christmas break so we each get to spend some time letting off steam.

I've just taken delivery of some 2mm FR4 sheet to try to make a box chassis for my HotShot for next year's Revival, and as I don't want to be carless if my design is a complete flop or falls apart in first practice, I need to build my Super Hot Shot re-re before July next year to run as a backup car.  So, that's one indoor Christmas build sorted.  I've also just received some Tamiya 4x4 driver figures for my scalers, so I'll need to paint those too.  Hopefully one day I can persuade my daughter to sit and paint things on her little table while I sit and paint at the big one.  Assuming I can at least get the drivers primed under the heat lamps.

Also there's an SMT10 needs building.  I don't have a power system for it yet and after destroying a servo in my CFX-W during a quarry visit yesterday I probably don't have a suitable servo either and no budget for that for a while, but at least I can build a roller.

I think I'm all stocked up on workshop parts, sundries and paint, but the most important thing is the Christmas food shop - our Aldi collect order got cancelled due to IT difficulties so I'm sending the wife out at midnight to get the perishables and a second round of snacks and mince pies and other unhealthy things from Tesco, because everybody knows Christmas is about sitting on the sofa watching TV and eating junk food (because we blatantly haven't already done enough of that in 2020 :D )
