Just finished the mechanical side of the build on my rerelease Hornet (and fixed an issue with sticking front shocks), and installed the electronics where I thought they looked sensible - but it’s not pretty - and the lack of front window means the receiver and esc are really quite exposed - and ruin the look of the thing a bit.

Are there any “vanity covers” which are produced? I’ve seen someone put their esc, on it’s side, down the right hand side of the driver, and then put the receiver at the back of the buggy - so there’s just a black empty space in front of the driver which might look better?

My set up below - very rough cut on the shell just for fitment check - which has brought this issue to my attention..... can anyone share any neat and tidy Hornet installs to give me any more ideas? So far I think shoving the esc on the right of the driver as mentioned seems the best option for aesthetics?

Many thanks!

That's pretty much how I have mine setup too, except I put the ESC all the way at the back where the 4AA receiver batteries usually go, underneath the rear of the driver.

But you wouldn't have to move anything on your chassis if you had an interior. I'm pretty sure I've seen one for the Hornet, maybe on Shapeways(?), but I didn't save the link, sorry. You could try a driver torso from a Brat/Blackfoot or similar, which would just screw onto your existing driver head, or just add on your own custom cockpit to the existing driver since you'd have to cut those down to fit anyway.

Bigwig driver has arms.

This driver has no screw hole on top of the helmet. You'd have to use the Hornet head.  But if you have the room, you might be able to cover up the internal parts.

That's pretty much how I have mine set up as well. You might be able to move the electronics to where I've indicated in the picture, but I'm not 100% sure the body will clear the servo and esc connecters with the receiver mounted in the front since I don't have a body for my hornet yet.

Thanks for the above. There is actually another body on the driver sprue which is a bit wider, but I think I’ll move the electrics around a bit. I know it's a basic/entry level car, but I still want it to look as good as I can!

I’ve got a big wig as it happens, so might see if that driver fits better too.

I made a cover for my Hornet from plastic card covered in black vinyl and it fits onto the screw under the drivers head and is taped to the underside of the bonnet area . It lifts off with the shell

I’ve used the slightly larger cups to add a bit more tension (so the “hard” setting from the manual) - which might be a mistake and I might  swap to soft as it’ll be used in the garden not really in tarmac/car parks.... And I’m not using the o rings. So basically like pogo sticks I think!

Use the soft ones and put 2 orings in each one. That’s a custom setting I came up with and it’s the best if want to keep things stock. Make sure to use plenty of grease shafts.

I’ll give it a go. Thanks! From reading-up a bit, it looks like the buggy’s too light for oil filled dampers to do much? Not sure what to use on it if I went that route - but I’ll try the above first.
