My vintage collection and questions

Recommended Posts

Nice looking model 👍 not sure I would want to bash it after spending time making it look that good though lol.
A hornet with a grasshopper body look good also.  I have one myself, an all black version. Powered by a vintage Parma motor.  The frog chassis with a scorcher body look the part also.  You get the proper rear end squat with that chassis when accelerating 👍.

The black one I sold on but I still have the purple one.  The blitzer sized wheels help it drive over grass with ease.  That has a vintage eamotorsports stock motor and with the small 10 tooth pinion accelerates really well 😊

Wow these new electronics install real easy. Things are quite simple compared to BITD. The wheelie bar for this is still on the way so I need to chill but it have another runner!!

Yes it is!  Vintage Lunchbox is looking great with the new body!

Thanks. That’s the old body but I did redo it.

Oh, I thought you got a new one.  Even better that it's the original.

Grasshopper will have a new body to go with the new chassis.  I want it pure white not all spray bombed and crack repair up.

This lunch box is hard to beat but it eats up a battery pretty quickly. My thunder shot knows how to make the battery last. Both cars re running top notch thanks to Tamiya Club!!

Some vintage replacement parts showed up today   The g hopper body is MINT! Especially coupled with MCI decals with “Weber” on the roof. And here is a 3D printed bumper for the falcon straight out of the UK.

Hey and welcome back to tamiya - so very jealous you managed to keep all yours from childhood.

mine all got trashed, traded and eventually they were all gone.

ive spent the last 2 years getting my cars back

falcon, terra scorcher then clodbuster

unfortunately I’ve also managed to amass around 15 others along the way - oops

oh and I had to buy a shed / workshop to keep them all in (and keep me in)

anyway - great advice so far. I always recommend anything that works with the flysky style Receivers and I also buy 6 at a time for around £5 each (AliExpress)

i don’t worry about memories on the transmitter and all of mine are paired to the same non memory transmitter but those stay on the shelf Anyway.

as for LiPo - unless you want some real speed then stay clear, they are hard to manage (can’t be left charged, or discharged, come in 2s/3s/4s etc as well as different capacities, can catch fire, need a specialist charger and a power supply to that charger, programme the charger to match the number of cells and the capacity etc  and connectors are all different etc)

but when you are ready they are awesome

of you like buggies can I suggest a TT02-b chassis and whatever body you want

these are awesome and a great chassis with LOADS and LOADS of parts and upgrades.

then you can put something like a goolRC brushless motor and ESC (£30) and a LiPo and you wont believe the speed - look in my YouTube vids for the craziness of a 3s LiPo TT02b

keep the retro ones retro and admire your childhood :)

in my YouTube channel I’ve done restorations and new builds but here is the depth I got into with the falcon, ending up having 3!! And the clod buster, ended up having 2!! But restoring them was amazing and I love this part actually more than driving

Thanks. I’m sterling clear of Lipo for right now. And don’t feel bad about getting rid of your cars. I had plenty of cars BITD that are now gone including two frogs, hot shot, Avante and clod buster, oh well that’s life right. In other news I built my first Tamiya in over 30 years, sorry it’s not a TT02b just a plain old TT02.  Remember we much fun building used to be?  Well it still is !!!!!

Hmmm something tells me these aren’t going to fit my thunder shot. RC MART did me wrong. It’s literally says “thunder shot front / rear dual block tires k 62/24 / 62/35”. Did I buy the wrong tires ?  And now I can’t post a picture. What happened, did I wear out my welcome?

Can I obtain new rims to make them work on the thunder shot?  I'd hate to waste $20USD on tires that I can't use.  Or any suggestions for if i can put on the other cars I own, the following need tires: Grasshopper/Falcon.  (boomerang I also have but has good tires.)

I wonder what RC mart return policy is, do they cover shipping back to their land?

I gave up looking for another set of Thundershot tires as availability was limited unless buying from England.  I pulled the trigger on 2 pairs of hotshot rear wheels and tires which should be arriving soon.  I like the look of smaller diameter rims and tires on my Thundershot and the Hotshot tires aren’t that much bigger and are still stocked by more shops and will last longer.  Once I put the Superstock BZ in my Thundershot last year, the new set of Thundershot tires wore down pretty quickly on asphalt (not surprising).

I’ve been after a set of front tyres for a grasshopper 2/falcon and have been told that availability is from February.  That’s in the U.K. 🇬🇧.   Just be patient.  Apparently the longer wait time is due to parts being shipped by sea now as air freight is hugely expensive due to the covid pandemic 😷

If any of you have links you can pass on for thunder shot tire suggestions or tires that will work. I was even thinking of buying new adapters and rims to make these two tires fit for now unless you think that’s just crazy?  Or does anyone need this unused set?  US Shipping preferred or you can probably buy them cheaper from RC mart.
