Tyre writing paint pens in the UK

Recommended Posts

Hi - please could someone recommend oil based sharpie equivalents for tyre writing. I can’t seem to find any ultra fine tipped oil based sharpies in the UK. I’m after white and yellow, so nothing ridiculous... but can’t find any with ultra fine tips.

Many thanks!

I tried a while ago with no luck, at least in the small nib size, suppose its some stupid UK safety law, being oil based. Can get car and motorcycle easy but the nibs are way to big.

Mm. Seems a bit of a pain. Be good to know if anyone has tried any different brands which are available?

Of late , I've been using a Uni paint marker with extra fine tip ( made by Mitsubishi - not checked if it is single or twin turbo !! ) - oil based paint - white . I got it from Rymans in Romford a while back , don't know if they still sell them though , not been there for a while for some reason ? !

just searched here as an example  :-

I use this

Pilot Metallic Super Colour White Extra Fine (0.5mm Line) Permanent Marker Paint Pens (1 Pen) https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PCKK7AQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_Zm69FbYMJCEMN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

seems ok.
although oil based do bung up if not used often. Apparently the superfine water based sharpie is good and pretty resistant to rubbing but I can’t find that either!

One Drive in the Snow (or when its a bit wet outside) and that paint is gone for me, so its all these Pens for Shelf Queens only?. I saw some one used a silver marker pen and i belive those are much stronger than the one you have URL to here (as i am using now but i must give it up, it goes straight off again as mentioned).

I can also show how much paint falled off after 1 drive in the Snow, i have 2 pens in the permanent white 0.5 White type, they just the opposite of permanent when taking them out for a spin. All cars had a long time inside drying up, so it was not like i painted and took them out at once either:

Edding 8055 Outdoor Marker is what I use for tire writing.

I use Edding 750 Creative, and I have seen edding haven also some smaller tips. we have a german shop Mueller here, there is  all sorts of edding stuff. their spray paint is for polycarbonat but only hard bodies, it sticks great to the lexan body, but is not brittle resistant. smells like tamiya paint tho

it doesnt last, looks awesome for a  bit then u need ti re apply. think about it. its an after thought. looks good, has no function. dont expect a fine paint marker to last. its a vanity thing. every tire i  my fleet is paint markered. if and when it wears off i can reapply. its a hobby thing

so does anyone know a permanent Marker with fine nib that does not fall off as fast as you drive them outside, or is this meant for Shelfs Queens only?. As i mentioend i already tried 2 different White permanent fine nib pen markers, but the paint fall off (as in my previos post).

I would like it on as it looks pretty cool while driving around but if it is just about to fall off as fast it gets i litle wet i will leave it ..

edit: Somewhere someone mentioed Silver marker, that actually looked very good and i think Silver pens hold better than the white, but i have not tested
